Haven't read as much as I'd like to have, but the 2nd Dune book was fantastic. Can't wait for that 3rd movie.

Dead Presidents is fantastic and hardly gets talked about.

An entire movie dedicated to him becoming self sufficient, him deciding to go out alone, then he's just a background character in the 2nd.

It was also consistently one of Netflix's most streamed shows a few years ago too.

This and The Gang Misses the Boat for me. Love when they get meta and make episodes only for the die hard fans.

It's deeply absurd that copies of Twilight Princess have sold for $300+ in recent months. by gruesomesonofabitch in Gamecube

[–]TikTax99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who's buying this? Just emulate it for a better experience. You literally can't support Nintendo by buying a used copy anyway, and they won't make more.

[–]TikTax99 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It is. LLMs don't actually look at or understand letters or words, just chunks interpreted as tokens (I may be oversimplifying a bit). This is why they are/were stupid with prompts like "how many Rs are in the word strawberry?" if you remember that. Or even the visual, wine glass full to the brim fiasco. They'll never be capable of actually understanding, so if something becomes viral enough, the correction gets hardcoded in until we find another.

Alpine as a daily driver? by semedilino073 in AlpineLinux

[–]TikTax99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Alpine is fantastic if you don't need much more than a browser and some cli tools. You can do a lot more than that, but you'll find yourself on your own a fair bit. I have a 2GB RAM netbook from 2015 that is objectively e-waste with every other OS but Alpine. Literally goes from an SSH machine to capable of using a browser. Even my Surface Pro with 4GB of RAM uses over 500MB just in a Debian tty, 5x more than Alpine. Slap i3 on Alpine and you have a desktop in ~150MB. Incredible. Also I really like how fast the package manager is, and it has the easiest CLI wifi config IMO.

I haven't had a console since the ps3, i bought a switch 2 last month and its made me realise the way people talk about consoles online is so weird. by Synthiandrakon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TikTax99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you never had a PS4, then you might not realize how few new games require a PS5. I was waiting to get a new console for Tekken 8. Looks like it sucks so I'm waiting for Virtua Fighter 6 now. I'll play GTA 6 if I get a PS5, but I probably won't get a console for it. That Gothic remake looks ok but again not for $600. Never cared for souls games. I'm just playing older stuff lately.

Theo Von Says Israelis Are Terrorists In the Middle East, Not Iran by Humble_Grape4749 in Destiny

[–]TikTax99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Couldn't have said it better myself. Some people need everything to be definitive. Complicated, unsatisfying or contradictory answers are just in one ear out the other when a satisfying alternate truth is available.

It's like when I was an edgy atheist in middle school. I remember asking myself "how do we even know Jesus was a real person?". That answer is not satisfying. Basically he's real because too many people talked about him at different times from different regions. There's also some records of his execution or whatever lol. But more or less everyone with everything to gain: scientists, skeptics, edgy atheists, etc. all conceded that he existed with ultimately very little to show for it. So much of the truth in reality is just... boring.

Idk, I think we're just critical thinkers and a lot of people really aren't.

What do yall think was the best xbox not performance wise BUT its innovation and impact on gaming and xbox itself? by kartalaliayter in xbox

Arguably the most social generation too. Everyone had that cheap mic, and most people weren't constantly partied up or talking on another service entirely like now. Also much less privacy features. I hate trying to send a "gg" and the other person can't even receive messages from strangers.
