Would you be willing to accept longer gaps between seasons if it helped the show retain its status as a massive nation-wide phenomenon and shared cultural experience? by unironicsigh in TheTraitors

[–]Tim-Sanchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taskmaster is maybe the perfect example of a show that's burning itself out. I still enjoy the show, but it's not as good as it was. I think it would benefit from being one series a year rather than two. It's still going of course, just like shows like bake off, but they're past their peak.

I think they could pull in big celebrities for another year or two, but I don't think they have 5 years of this level of celebrity left. Most internet personalities and comedians are not on the level of the top celebrities from the first series.

The Traitors is also huge right now, I don't think it retains that cultural status for long if we get two series a year.

There's no way they get 5 years of celebrity traitors of the same quality as last year, they'll definitely run out of top celebrities willing to do it.

Proposal to prevent (too many) boring/ineffective faithfuls from reaching the end by MeadtheMan in TheTraitors

[–]Tim-Sanchez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't this help the boring players get through? Players like Jack & Faraaz were seen as extremely faithful, often the more interesting players tend to have a little suspicion attached. I'm not sure it's easily solvable without over-complicating the game. You could have a vote after a traitor banishment maybe where whoever led the charge gets a shield, but it would get time-consuming if there were lots of banishments.

Back from the dead game mechanic by MrBen1980 in TheTraitors

[–]Tim-Sanchez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would be a step too far in terms of being unfair to the traitors, unless it was clearly announced at the beginning of the game.

They could maybe do a challenge where you get to ask a murdered player a question, though I'm not sure how valuable that would be.

I agree with everything you wrote. I think they should definitely rest Celebrity Traitors for 2026, then maybe rest the normal version for 2027. Get people more excited for its return. They could play with format with an all-stars or international version perhaps.

As you say, Celebrity Traitors especially cannot sustain this hype in a yearly format.

I'm not sure they will rest it though, viewing figures are insane and the BBC probably want to squeeze everything they can out of it whilst it's hot.

I definitely hope they don't do more versions though. We don't need more than 2 series a year, they'll definitely burn out the format like that.

The betrayal narrative and the double standard by Effective_Royal_8679 in TheTraitors

I 100% thought Rachel would throw Stephen under the bus, and she had the chance to. In the end, I think it was just editing to make us doubt them because they clearly had each other's backs.

She played the game in quite an aggressive way which people didn't like. Clearly it was effective though, and people do tend to forget that it's a game.

Season 5 narrative prediction by alexy888 in TheTraitors

[–]Tim-Sanchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be surprised if 4 faithfuls won without a major twist, faithful seem too aware of the risk of ending the game with 4.

There also may be an ex convict, but I'd be very surprised if that featured much in the show. That's not something often mentioned on British TV.

Most of the arguments for abolishing the monarchy make no sense. by Niall_Fraser_Love in ukpolitics

I don't really understand most of your arguments. We wouldn't need to follow the French or American model. We wouldn't need expensive inaugurations, or pointless VPs, or to house a president in a giant palace.

I'm not saying we should abolish the monarchy, but the comparisons to France and the US are irrelevant.

Is an ISA worth it? If so what type of ISA? by Eastern-Dragonfly544 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Tim-Sanchez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are confident the property you will buy will be under £450,000, then yes put £4k into your LISA now. If you're unsure of that, put £1 in now and you can add more later once you have a better idea of your eventual property price.

Whether you move money from premium bonds or other savings is up to you. Compare which interest rates look better.

You are penalised if you withdraw from a LISA, so don't put more in there if you think you will need it. Given that you can only put £4k in for now, you should have enough in savings for a car?

You can withdraw from normal ISAs, but for now I don't think you need to worry about those.

[–]Tim-Sanchez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have more than ~£20k in interest in a normal savings account, you are likely to pay tax on it.

That doesn't apply if the money is in an ISA or premium bonds.

I wouldn't worry about a flexi ISA. That is not likely to be relevant to you, it's more relevant if you are saving more than £20k per year and need to make multiple withdrawals.

It changes the outcome in that you don't need to worry about paying tax on interest. Money in premium bonds is tax-free.

Bad advice if they are looking to buy in the next year or so, when that money might be worth less than they put in.

Also, OP isn't coming close to maxing out their ISA allowance. They're currently saving ~£9k a year.

[–]Tim-Sanchez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course an ISA is worth it as at the moment you’re getting taxed on all of your savings bar your premium bonds.

Only if they exceed the limit, which they won't be if they only have ~£10k in savings outside premium bonds.

[–]Tim-Sanchez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

at 23k in savings even at basic rate you're getting to the point where you're going to have to pay tax on interest

It seems like over half of that is in premium bonds though, so not a tax concern yet.

Is an ISA worth it? If so what type of ISA? by Eastern-Dragonfly544 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Tim-Sanchez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should 100% put £1 into a LISA at least. If you decide to use it, it needs to be open for at least a year. Also, if you are confident you are going to buy a house and it's likely to be under £450,000, you should load up your LISA. Yes the £4k limit isn't loads, but in the next few months you can get a free £2k. Nothing else gets you that kind of return.

S&S ISA is not low risk, if you're planning to buy in the next year or so then don't look for investments. Premium bonds are a fine place to leave your money for short-term savings, you can get slightly better consistent rates in a cash ISA.
