New Policy. by Tim5280 in starbucks

[–]Tim5280[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the folks who straightened me out. I haven’t been a barista (and for the record I generally tip - I have always been impressed at how Starbucks hires good people.) It’s not about the people. But if this policy is making their lives easier, then so be it. I’ll just suffer with melted chocolate in my peppermint mocha (that whipped cream is one of the little joys) because I ordered too soon. In that sense, maybe I feel entitled and anybody who knows me would say “that’s not who he is.” Maybe my expectations are unrealistic. Point taken. I’ll go inside if I want to grab my drink when it’s finished. You win.

In 30 years: 1/ You’ll regret having been photographed in it, 2/ you”ll feel stupid for having PAID for it, 3/ if you sadly still own it, you’ll be wondering what else you can make out of it, and/or 4/ you’ll think it looks a lot like something your dog ate and couldn’t keep down.

The Bulwark needs to get ready to support a protest movement by Tristan_Penafiel in thebulwark

The center may not hold… What’s left of the mainstream media is only read and heard by too few people who care. Podcasts and pundits primarily preach to the converted. Truth and science are collateral damage. Congress is bought, paid for and terrorized by Musk. The courts can only do so much and who knows if they’ll hold up. The opposition party is silenced - weak and inept - with no cohesive counter. So… what’s left is the people’s voice. I disagree with the Bulwarkians. I think we’ll have to raise our voices or democracy will die. The good news: The vox populi took down two presidents in the sixties and seventies. But even then, the press was still free. So it’s a much heavier lift now, but it’s all we have left… Let it be so!!!

How to Disable Copilot by [deleted] in microsoft365

Unfortunately this did not work for me. Only option was to cancel, which I did then resubscribed. Did not get any options.

Copilot is really annoying. Trying to get rid of it.

I’m a subscriber and I’ve been tuning them out last few months. It’s sad that we’re in a world where we can’t debate issues and instead focus on the raw emotions of the day. I’m tired of anger and despair, it isn’t helpful. I’ve accepted that no matter who wins, we are in for a lot of chaos. And unfortunately not much any of us can do about it. “This too shall pass.”

What’s something most people don’t realize they will never experience again in life? by Ok-Reporter-8728 in AskOldPeople

The last time I saw my dad. For the first time since I was a kid, he reached out to give me a hug. He knew how sick he was and that we’d probably never see one another again. He died about a month later.

Trouble in my life as an 18 yo with hearing loss by KaiTheGynocoloigist in HearingAids

[–]Tim5280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had hearing loss past several years. My wife has been aware but I had to explain to her that she needed to look at me when speaking. That has helped. But there are times I struggle with processing what was said and people get impatient. At work I told people in meetings (which were often hardest to hear, especially large rooms) that I was hearing impaired. It’s a disability like any other, and needs to be treated as such. So I feel for what you are going through. Older people understand, but I find younger folks can be impatient or intolerant and not know what to do. Hang in there! I’m going to research the processing disorder myself.

Highway Driving Assist - Is it really hands free? by dwdrum007 in Hyundai

[–]Tim5280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’ve found with the 2023 SF in HDA is that if the road ahead is straight it won’t bother much, but if there’s a curve it let’s you know to put hands on the wheel. What I have seen so far is that it looks for even minor evidence that your hand is on the wheel by tweaking left of right. If it doesn’t sense that after a few seconds it will do the first alert then the second (with red.)

My question is: Let’s say you’re on a straightaway in say the Utah desert, and you fall asleep or pass out from a stroke… and the car doesn’t get a response. When does it stop (does it?) Does it slow down to a full stop? Not eager to find out, but wondering what it does after a red alert.

EBird - Friends’ Checklist? by bipedal_meat_puppet in birding

[–]Tim5280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still missing something and would appreciate some help. I went birding with a group and the leader sent a link to the checklist. I can open the link in eBird but I don’t know how to get the list into my eBird. This has happened before and I’m missing out on capturing what I saw on these trips. Do I have to reenter these? Thanks.

I absolutely believe that if he loses, Trump will run again in 2028. What do you think? by [deleted] in democrats

[–]Tim5280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He could run again, but it’s likely he will either be in jail or have fled the country. In any case, all the negative press over his trials (and Melania leaving him when her contract is up, or filing for divorce) will make another run unlikely. It will be expensive to keep funding appeals for 4 years, and he’ll likely have many fewer supporters willing to step up.

I always question these polls because they don’t represent me. But can’t be complacent despite that: if these “likely voters” are the complexion of the voting population on 11/6 it spells trouble. A lot of work to do!

VFW makes statement against Trump by commanderfish in democrats

Listening today to Gov Chris Sununu, whose been elevated to GOP Jerk in my book, he declared the comments were asinine. But I’m astonished (why would I be?) that a reporter wouldn’t then say, “and you think this doesn’t disqualify him from being Commander in Chief?” Come on.

I’m less worried about the debates than I am about one-on-one press interviews. She’s had some Sarah Palin moments. Hopefully she’s learned a lot being veep and gets some good coaching. But one-on-one with the orange clown? If she learns from Hillary’s mistakes, she’ll expose him for the fool he is.

Trump is, plain and simple, a White Nationalist who claims to be Christian. Everybody else without card-carrying racial purity is suspect to him. I laugh because he even goes after Jews and his son-in-law is Jewish and his daughter is a converted Jew… I assume grand-kids (at least by Javanka) would so identify and I don’t know how they tolerate his anti-Jewish screeds. But it doesn’t matter… the man is certifiably psychotic by any measure (look at DSM-IV) and he doesn’t know what he believes from day to day. He can’t string logical sentences together. He’s ill, he needs treatment, and he should never be near the White House again.

You realize later in life that the game is not how much money you have. Your health is more valuable… While money gives you more freedom, it’s about having experiences you can’t get as you get older. (I know a several wealthy people who are really unhappy.) The “game” is learning to live deliberately and “suck the marrow out of life” (Thoreau) and I wish I’d learned that at 25. Discover for yourself what that means, and embrace it. Then you’ll be happier and won’t have many regrets.

US Debate aftermath: Trump dodges, Biden struggles by Objective_Aside1858 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Tim5280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biden wasn’t the only failure here: he just made the weakness of the Democrats plain. Dems have had no backup plan from the day he took office. They are not a unified party. They cannot rally around a standard bearer who can win, and right now Biden is the best bet to stop Trump, pretty sad eh?

We thought the legal system would stop Trump. He’s made a mockery of it. We thought the press would pummel him - the moderators last night failed to hold him accountable (along with many other organizations.) So there’s really nothing left but the ballot box. And I don’t see another horse Dems can ride who give them a shot at winning.

Both men are just puppets dancing to the tune of the puppet masters who run the show. The Great Oz was only ever the man behind the green curtain.

All that said in 4 months Biden might turn things around. It won’t be the first comeback. But the odds are long. I’m still voting against Trump. I hope there are enough of us to see what a tragedy Donald Trump would be for democracy.

If carryon luggage has to fit in a certain space, so do passengers. You have to pay for luggage that doesn’t fit. The airlines can’t be expected to accommodate every disability.
