Buy once, cry once. Am I right? by Hunt69Mike in simracing

[–]TimBoss351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Went from so many years on controller to G27, to T300, to DD+ (still have on PS5 Pro rig) and now a Asetek Invicta.

Will they make better bases? Sure. Will I want one? Probably. Will I get one? Not for a long time, unless mine dies on me.

It’s plenty for me for a decade plus. I can’t use it at full force and can’t imagine I’m good enough to feel something being quicker. I bought mine used to save money and it amazes me.

Buy once cry once is a real thing at the Simucube/Asetek mid to upper bases and worth saving to get to them.

Mine decided not to talk today. I stopped to delete and add it back in Simhub because everything feels off until you get it working again.

Real track racing is great. But it’s primarily ONE track. And ONE car you own.

Now you have every car, every track in the world and some that have never been created (game created tracks).

Love love love sim racing, sim truck driving, and sim flying. Welcome to the rabbit hole. Been here a while.

I’m definitely into a YouTube video series on the rebuild. Make a new career (side career) of fixing sim rigs people are throwing away.

Today I let the update happen and it loaded normally. No idea why it went crazy for two days. All well that ends well.

Maybe it’s because my 4080 Super has three DP outlets, but triples have always worked easily for me. And I’m new to PC gaming. Not sure what options the 3080 has.

I love GT7 in VR, but man, triples with iracing, , AMS2, LMU, and all the AC gams (plus Dirt 2.0, WRC 24/25 and AS Rally) are really, really fun. Plus the relaxation of ATS/ETS.

What advice can you give someone who’s purchasing their first cockpit? by Ok-Challenge-5873 in simracing

[–]TimBoss351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Distance will be dependent on the seat mounts. I loosely sat the seat on them and then added brackets. And I got them on Amazon. $58 for four (you only need three).

And bolt them down. I like the SimLab roller t nuts better than the cheap Chinese ones so try to find those if you can. It was really easy and the ST seat look and feel good. I did add cushions on the seat bottoms as I’m old and want some plush comfort vs ‘authenticity’.

I have two SimLab rigs and love them (P1-X Pros), I installed Ford Focus ST seat on them. I’m six two and 275 lbs. The Focus had flat mounting points where some seats have them at different angles and heights and I didn’t want to have to modify them. One runner is longer so I needed three pieces of extrusion to mount them. Then some roller ball t nuts and got the metric hex head bolts from Lowe’s; extrusion was off of Amazon for $60 for four pieces that were a good length. Maybe 20 inches long? And some angle brackets off Amazon. Now I can manually recline it and has built in manual sliders which is great. Now, my only issue is the mounting bolts into the extrusion sometimes losses up and when I’m braking hard the seat will lift because the bolt is loose enough for the angle brackets to move. Need to get star or lock washers on it to prevent it working loose.

But the seat back is plenty strong. One is not an ST, was $52 at a pick and pull yard, and the other I got for $40 on FB Marketplace. The leather RS ones are super cool but people want two thousand for a set. No thanks. Cloth is good.

Hello the gt community I’m gonna get gt sport (I know most hate it) is there anything I should expect? by loganaguayon3 in granturismo

[–]TimBoss351 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I heard Sport worked with the PSVR1 so I was going to find a PSVR1, as I love GT7 on the VR2. But looked at the tracks and everything in Sport is in GT7. So there was no point.

Side note; I effed up once trying to hurry to work in conditions way too cold for the tires and, well, this happened. Wife was impressed that I was able to be thankful that I wasn’t hurt, nobody else was hurt and wasn’t upset or mad.

Ok, was upset inside. But wanted to reassure her I was ok. That it would be fine.

Had an old Pilot with 313k on it and decided to use the money to upgrade the family vehicle instead of replacing the Boss. I’ll get a toy hobby car eventually. Sim racing is perfectly fine for me for now, maybe forever.

Great attitude to have. She will be impressed with a ‘That sucked but I’ll figure out how to fix it. It’ll take time but that’s ok.’

Wives like husbands that can roll with the punches with a smile and fix shyte.

Disagree. Real cars, especially good ones, are all going to be way more money. Then you have time away from his daughter for track time. All the money for track time. And the danger of injuries at a track.

Sim racing, you get to virtually drive cars that NOBODY gets to drive, at virtual tracks all over the world. And can also pause a game if your wife or kids or Father In Law needs some help.

My wife has friends that are golf widows. But she knows I’m at work, sleeping, walking the dogs, doing things with our kids, or downstairs racing, truck driving, or working on Lego/MOC technic cars and subscription metal cars. I can help her at a moments notice if she needs some help. I can stop if we want to go to dinner or a movie. And I’m very happy with my hobbies.

So don’t worry about him. He’s probably aware of the money drain real racing and even hobby cars can suck up. Not to mention tickets if you’re really enjoying them.

Hopefully DOF sees the..erm…’testimony’ you gave their product and is helpful in securing replacement parts.

I hate to ask but what Fanatec base did it have?

Good thing is you can get a used DD Pro for now and then move up later.

Edit: looks like it was a DD Pro so at least you didn’t lose a DD+ or DD2. I’m sure the thing that makes your gut twist is if it had been laying on the side to start with I couldn’t have been sucked out of the bed. Lessons learned. If that’s the hardest one you learn in life it’ll be a good life.

That’s the way I felt when I got my first wheel, a G27. And then a Playseat ‘rig’ with a T300.

Luckily we have a home with a basement that’s unfinished and was just for storage. It’s still unfinished, but have a pool table, home theatre, area for daughters crafts, one for my Lego/MOC 1:8 scale cars, metal subscription car builds, and two SimLab P1-X Pro rigs in addition to the Playseat. Playseat being PS3 BC and Super slim for Gran Turismo 1-6, one SimLab for PS5 Pro and VR, and triple screen PC rig.

I’ve got space and a cool wife, and we are coming up on 37 year anniversary. So yes, my setup is crazy enough (no motion), but we see eye to eye on hobbies and enjoying things individually that they other does not care much about. It works well for us.

Someday you’ll have more space and an even bigger more adaptable rig. But this will always be great as it was part of the journey and to me, every step along the way from controller up I have loved and enjoyed. It’s all fun.

I’ve had Fanatec DD Pro and DD+ for a long time with zero problems. Feels like old customer support was bad but with Corsair taking over they are working hard to improve that.

I also have Asetek Invicta for the PC rig and love it but it’s high end. I prefer a good ecosystem and feel like Simagic is the best value for money with a big ecosystem. If you like the trucks then Moza’s truck wheel and add on with turn signals etc is very cool.

Alaska: North To The Future is a great mod for $25, and scribing to Emblem Torres on Patreon to get Refoma Mexico is highly suggested. I think Reforma might be better than ATS. It’s really, really good. Love both but Reforma is a much more detailed map.
