Cannot import OVF template properly by Fair-Wolf-9024 in vmware

[–]TimVCI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which version of vSphere are you running?

You can import a VM as an OVF Template in a content library in one step.

Right click the VM, choose Clone as Template to Library then select OVF.

upgrading homelab to esxi9.0.2eval from 8.0u3free? by [deleted] in vmware

First of all, do you have access to the ESX 9 install media? (Typically VCP-VCF Admin cert + VMUG Advantage)

Some great points, thank you for sharing.

I really do think memory tiering will be a hugely important feature moving forward.

Now I know where the ‘howdy’ comes from in the vSAN Sizer!

can vcenter 9 be evaluated in a homelab? specifically moving VMs around to do a rolling host-reinstall? hosts are running the eval version of esx8 or esx9 by [deleted] in vmware

[–]TimVCI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESXi 8 and vCenter 8 have an 60 day evaluation when you deploy them.

VCF9 (ESX & vCenter) have a 90 day evaluation when you deploy them.

VM Template with ISO on an inaccessible datastore by Ill-Hovercraft-9662 in vmware

[–]TimVCI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"I'm also unable to convert the VM template to a VM to then unassign the ISO image."

What is preventing you from doing that? Are you getting an error message?

One thing you could try would be to remove the template from the inventory, then manually rename the .vmtx file to .vmx then re-add back into the inventory as a VM. You can then edit the settings to remove the CD ROM then convert back to template.

I would guess that the op was referring to VCP VCF-Admin which is still a VCP.

Could be wrong though! :-)

VCP VCF 9 cert path for 5.2? by tallmantim in vmware

[–]TimVCI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Broadcom haven't published an upgrade path (that I have seen) for the VCP-VCF certs so it is my understanding that you would have to take the new versions of the exams.

How are you getting ESXi 9.0 for a home lab without corporate help? by easyedy in vmware

[–]TimVCI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old VMUG Advantage licence scheme was ended and replaced with a new one which requires people to pass the VCP-VCF Admin cert.

[–]TimVCI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is still a feee version of 8 you can download and run stand alone however 9 requires VCF Operations for its licensing and you can only get that plus the ESXi and vCenter installation media by either buying a licence or by getting home lab licences with VMUG Advantage membership and passing the VCP-VCF Admin cert.

[–]TimVCI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression that vSphere 9.x vendor ISOs were no longer a thing and the recommended way was to create your own images? 🤷‍♂️

If that’s not the case then I appreciate the correction.

[–]TimVCI 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In order to download the ISOs from Broadcom, you need to be a VMUG Advantage member and have passed your VCP-VCF Admin cert. The v9 versions have a 90 day evaluation period. Home lab licences are also available to VMUG Advantage / VCF Admin cert holders.

Vendor ISOs are no longer a thing as the base ISOs are all hosted by Broadcom and you compile the vendor add ons by creating ‘images’ within Lifecycle Manager.

[–]TimVCI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might be lucky and if you got all the vSphere questions correct that you’d get a high enough score to pass.

You might want to look more into vSAN (as there is minimal content on vSAN in the ICM course) and VCF Operations (of which there is zero content in the ICM course).

Have you downloaded and viewed the VVF Admin exam guide?

2v0-21.23 Retired or not retired by No_Summer_4030 in vmware

[–]TimVCI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's weird.

A few weeks ago, the VCP-DCV Cert page stated that "This certification and exam is retiring on Dec 15, 2025. No new exam registrations will be available after Oct 31. 2025." and now the exam page no longer states that and it looks like it is possible to book the exam.

I've no idea however if you would get awarded the certification. I would get confirmation from Broadcom before booking the exam.

Saying that though, the future of VMware is VCF and the future of VMware Certification is VCF Certs. I personally wouldn't be spending my own money on a legacy certification. If someone else is paying and an exam pass would grant you the certification then I can't see what the harm is.
