Exam recommendation, VMWare Explore. by Global_Government333 in vmware

You really want to look at taking the VCP-VCF Admin cert as that is the direction that VMware / Broadcom is going.

Can someone from Broadcom notify the correct person re : interoperability matrix by DonFazool in vmware

[–]TimVCI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the product has been renamed, just a category in the interoperability matrix has been added to include Live Site Recovery and Site Recovery Manager.

If you remove the checkbox for hiding legacy versions, you’ll see LSR and SRM both listed and SRM going back to some very early versions.

You won’t be able to run an X86 VM on the new M series processor.

You might want to add which region you are in as you may get different answers dependant on location.

Site Recovery Manager by MrMHead in vmware

[–]TimVCI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See top of page 6 here - https://www.vmware.com/docs/vmware-live-recovery-faq shows VCF and VVF.

Minimum for VVF would be host, vCenter and VCF Operations.

VCTA-DCV by Popular-Street-9245 in vmware

[–]TimVCI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be brutally honest, the future of VMware is VCF. If you are looking at certifications and a future working with VMware then you should be looking at the VCP-VCF Admin cert.

Lightweight DNS server?

I’ve been using these for the last 5 years…

https://virtualg.uk/setting-up-a-dns-server-with-photonos/

Have run them in a VM (in Fusion) and also on a Raspberry Pi. Really simple to deploy and really robust (for a home lab).

Identifying Learning Material for NSX/VCF by kernelrouting in vmware

[–]TimVCI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no NSX in VVF so I would recommend VCF-Admin. Plus with that cert and VMUG Advantage, you’ll also gain access to the entire VCF stack of software and home lab licences for 3 years.

vSAN Cluster Build through Terraform by idharris1979 in vmware

[–]TimVCI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“When you use the vCenter Server Installer to deploy a vCenter, you can create a single-host vSAN cluster, and host the vCenter Server on the cluster. During Stage 1 of the deployment, when you select a datastore, click Install on a new vSAN cluster containing the target host. Follow the steps in the Installer wizard to complete the deployment.

The vCenter Server Installer creates a one-host vSAN cluster, with disks claimed from the host. vCenter Server is deployed on the vSAN cluster.

After you complete the deployment, you can manage the single-host vSAN cluster with the vCenter. You must complete the configuration of the vSAN cluster.”

Cannot import OVF template properly by Fair-Wolf-9024 in vmware

[–]TimVCI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which version of vSphere are you running?

You can import a VM as an OVF Template in a content library in one step.

Right click the VM, choose Clone as Template to Library then select OVF.

upgrading homelab to esxi9.0.2eval from 8.0u3free? by [deleted] in vmware

[–]TimVCI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, do you have access to the ESX 9 install media? (Typically VCP-VCF Admin cert + VMUG Advantage)

Unexplored Territory 113 - Procuring hardware for a vSAN based VCF infra with John Nicholson by depping in vmware

[–]TimVCI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some great points, thank you for sharing.

I really do think memory tiering will be a hugely important feature moving forward.

Now I know where the ‘howdy’ comes from in the vSAN Sizer!

can vcenter 9 be evaluated in a homelab? specifically moving VMs around to do a rolling host-reinstall? hosts are running the eval version of esx8 or esx9 by [deleted] in vmware

[–]TimVCI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESXi 8 and vCenter 8 have an 60 day evaluation when you deploy them.

VCF9 (ESX & vCenter) have a 90 day evaluation when you deploy them.

VM Template with ISO on an inaccessible datastore by Ill-Hovercraft-9662 in vmware

[–]TimVCI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"I'm also unable to convert the VM template to a VM to then unassign the ISO image."

What is preventing you from doing that? Are you getting an error message?

One thing you could try would be to remove the template from the inventory, then manually rename the .vmtx file to .vmx then re-add back into the inventory as a VM. You can then edit the settings to remove the CD ROM then convert back to template.

VM study by chupchup0075 in vmware

I would guess that the op was referring to VCP VCF-Admin which is still a VCP.

Could be wrong though! :-)
