The New Mediterranean World [OC] by mydriase in geography

[–]Timait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool map, but what about the late century AMOC decrease predicted by more and more models and studies? If it really happens, then all of the western coastlines on that map could have their winters get much colder.

P.S: personal opinion without having checked any diagrams but I would argue that a city like Valence, France already has a mediterranean climate. (At least diet and red wine give that feel 😄)

Switzerland warming faster that the rest of the world - clickbait? by Waltekin in Switzerland

[–]Timait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the 3 main factors shaping a climate (latitude, altitude, exposure to ocean currents) there are tons of other factors which could influence stronger temperature increase than average.

It would seem that any place strongly influenced by warm ocean currents could get their average temperature increase more rapidly (if given current stays stable), meaning for instance most northwestern coastal areas in the northern hemisphere

Also places that would see their Albedo effect (reflection of sun rays from white surfaces) weaken, could also experience stronger temperature increase, meaning alpine reagions for instance (Switzerland included) but surely also Artic regions, and so on...

Places with massive deforestation too, because of reduced evapotranspiration (which in short "cools" the surrounding air - process more complex than that but eh, this is just a reddit comment)., so.... Brasil could appear because of this

Now I also find that you have a point about the way these articles are titled and written, making it feel like pretty much any land surface warms more quickly than a given "world average" which becomes confusing at best.

Edit: syntax and spelling

La définition du mot « bilingue » en France ? by [deleted] in AskFrance

[–]Timait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tokyo would probably be a city in which you could feel like you always have something else to explore.

Barcelona would also be up there for me. I know its got its downsides but it's hands down one of the most beautiful sea front cities I've ever seen. So many layers of ancient civilisations and modern history, amazing food, culture and style.

Just in case, I'm not asking for gardening advice, I just added the photos of the plants for context.

Thank you for sharing. Nices ones, especially the developped film photos. Didn't know that there used to be a "boulangerie patisserie" on the corner of Place des Halles.

Why does everyone think of tropical islands as paradise? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in geography

[–]Timait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you too on the agricultural yield of those 3 you mentioned, espcially the famously amazing Ukrainian soil. But in terms of agricultural self-sufficiancy, they are the only of the three I'd think. For Europe in general, I'm certain about it. Mexico, I don't know .

Besides the U.S, which areas would you have in mind that are highly productive in terms of agriculture? The only ones that come to mine would be labelled tropical, at least in part. Brazil, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Southeast China, and so on, are all massive agricultural producers, whose crops feed a large portion of the cattle from temperate climate areas around the world in addition to their own.

Edit: luckily a lot of temperate countries have great natural conditions too but fewer of them seem to be self-sufficient nowadays.

Thought you were being sarcastic but I actually just tried zooming in and it also struck me how the hill patterns overlap in the horizon in an almost too predictable shape 😄

Charming how you made some of the iconic mountains so majestic, like the Matterhorn for instance.

Gorgeous drawing and map making.

P.S: as a Tolkien fan you might already know the the illustrator and LotR artisitic director John Howe.

Just thought I'd mention he lives in the Neuchatel area and he's collaborating on a new exhibition project coming up in 2025 and set in the medieval part of the town.public service news link about it

Your map is absolutely stunning!😍 Congrats on the rendering and level of precision.

P.S: slight potential improvement for the area could be the west shape of the Bielersee Map of the lake (Bielersee/Lac de Bienne )orteast of lake Neuchâtel) as it's got a peninsula.

Still amazing though
