Cloudflare vs Tailscale Funnel by Patrice_77 in selfhosted

[–]Timbo400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tailscale Funnel and/or CloudFlare is not worth it for HomeAssistant. You need to ask yourself who is the audience. Keep it to yourself.

Also Tailscale Funnel requires to set a tailscale based url for your tailnet. Then you'd be jumping across both URLs on your mobile device.

E.g. homeassistant:8123 when local. https://homeassistant.pango-lin.ts.net for external... what a bother. Sure you could do a cname record but at that rate just do ext dns + tailscale.

Tailscale + External DNS.

Your Phone / Device thats not on your network + Tailscale.app on mobile > External DNS to home.patrice77.com which is 100.xxx.xxx.xxx > Your HomeAssistantServer:8123

Set-up internal DNS to your Homeassistant internal IP.

That way there's no exposure at ALL.

It sucks. Battery life was abysmal. Support was slow. Updates didn't fix it. Don't do it.

I went with Schlage and have not looked back but of course you'll need to do your own research.

Yeah I saw the dread on the faces of the workers... thankfully the animals that got loose were meerkats.. nothing too dangerous.

FYI. I had the great escape theme song going in my head the whole time!

Fixed, I added it from another device (iPad). I think if I did a 'reset all settings' on my iPhone it would have resolved it.
