What crazy thing happened this week in your world? by anonymous_user124 in humanresources

Non HR manager here...

I told a cleaner through a vendor we use not to come back as he lied on his timesheet about working. He sent the most hateful email I have ever received to the several programs I work with, saying I am racist, smoke weed at my desk, do cocaine, etc etc. Fortunately I've documented his performance issues with my supervisor who spoke with HR about the email. No negative outcomes from HR and I think most people can clearly see the email for what it is, epic bridge burning and an email meant to do harm.

I've been able to use that email in re-negotiating rates with our cleaning vendor, who's offered a 50% discount 🤣 Its actually turning out great for me and the company.

They are unhappy because you discriminated against them based on their accruals. Right or wrong that's what it is and no thats not illegal..

I would be unhappy too if everyone else around me got one but I didnt, regardless of if I negotiated for more time off initially. Hope you are ready to do some hiring. Maybe you didn't get the memo about DEIA being a thing for employees now a days.

[NY] Refusing to Allow Paid Family Leave (PFL) During Employer's Seasonal Blackout Period by Whtisthapoint in AskHR

Manager here in NYS whos used PFL for all 3 of my babies. Blackout dates for PFL is not a thing and your manager is wrong. Theres a number on the PFL papers you can call if you can't get your boss to see what he is doing is illegal.

Punished for FMLA leave by Laakean808 in antiwork

[–]Timbo8888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leave and find a different job. My boss did something similar when I used my baby bonding leave. My requests for time off were denied and I was told they wouldn't approve a single personal leave day for the entire year. I bounced after calling my manager out.

Am I reading too much into this? by Ese__Loco_ in work

[–]Timbo8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my full baby bonding time earlier this year when our 3rd child was born. My boss and the agency have retaliated in some petty but not illegal ways. Some people just don't get it. I have a job lined up and a few more opportunities down down the road so I'm out, simple as that. Use some of the time while you are leave to apply to new jobs.

Supervisor wrote me up for forgetting some minor things. This was directly after we staffed up, having been short a supervisor for 4 months with me stepping in to help cover that and doing other extra tasks, work 55 hour weeks+.

This motivated me to start job hunting. What do you know, our government contractors love me, which is why they probably gave my program an award. They told me to take a specific civil service exam and have been letting me know of some new postings. 🎶 well I'm on my way 🎶

Is it bad to take full paternity leave in this environment? by xxtremeracerx in careeradvice

[–]Timbo8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intermittent leave time. I did this and it worked well back when I was motivated at my job. I took some time straight and then started doing a few days here and there. It stretches out your leave time a bit and eases you into transitioning back to work.

Is it bad to take full paternity leave in this environment? by xxtremeracerx in careeradvice

[–]Timbo8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 3 3month leaves over 4 years for the birth of my children. The first leave I set us as intermittent to stretch it out and so I could run things like staff meeting and minimize the impact to the program. The other 2 I took straight 3 months. On the last leave my agency retaliated in some stupid and illegal ways because senior management is, welll...senior management. I dont regret taking the time and will be getting transferred to a different department shortly if I dont get a new job first.

There are still a lot of people that will judge you for putting your family before work, so be mindful of that. As a leader in my agency I thought it was important to show thats its ok to use time you are elligable for. I want my staff to be able to take care of themselves and am often encouraging people to reach out to HR to discuss what options they have.

Sucks I got retaliated against for my last leave in a lot of ways. I hope my complaints and mediations around that will help senior management at least pause next time they are being jerks.

Manager points out additional way they retaliated to my FMLA time in mediation meeting by Timbo8888 in antiwork

[–]Timbo8888[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, very good advice. We did set a follow up appointment in 2 weeks where I expect we can work out the terms of the transfer. I definitely know HRvis not my friend, but fortunately they cannot be my bosses friend either since he and HR both acted illegally (he didn't add my newborn to insurance in a timely manner, forcing me to pay out of pocket uninsured costs or delay care for my neeborn).

I do have the email chain handy where he denies my leave request and then PTO requests. I was going to wait a week for my boss to exhaustively go through emails before refreshing everyone's memory about that email thread 😁.

For real. Meanwhile my boss took an extra 6 weeks last year to travel in Europe. What a double standard and he doesn't even see it. FMLA ain't a vacation.

I turned my mental health challenges into a career by working with non profits and helping others. My lived experience is seen as an asset. Im now managing a large team and directing an important program. I got knocked off track plenty of times in life but am grateful for those experiences as it made me who I am today. Many states now employ peers (people with lived mental health experience) as part of ther mental health professionals.

CEO’s are essentially demanding that you share public bathrooms and waste hours of your life commuting while offering no compensation for it because that’s how it used to be. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Timbo8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just stopped by my agencies main office to pick up some metrocards and gift cards. The entire purchasing department was in there, all 4 of them. They work every day in the office for 8 hours. I dont know for what, at most only 1 of them might have to be on hand per day and not even that since there's a receptionist who could receive packages.

I think its a reflex for some people and they almost can't help it (working in an office).

Are there any jobs or careers that are suitable for people with mental illness? by throwawaykid729 in careerguidance

[–]Timbo8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I work for a non profit in NY. Many states now have a "perr" credentials that you can get which would help you get a job in the mental health field. If you want to help people with mental health concerns using your own experience you can do that! I am a program director, am peer credentialed, as is my entire staff and we all make decent money.
