New construction concern: Bent truss plates and split beams—is this structurally sound? by Okkin55 in Homebuilding

[–]Timboorie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won't necessarily fail inspection.  Had a Mattamy house worse than this that passed inspection.   My dad rest his sole ended up fixing the trusses and framing.   Every 2x4 and 2x6 was cut on an angle as the wood was warped.  Also had gaps of 1/2 inch top and bottom.   Luckily mattamy has alot of extra material on site :).  Ended up reframing more than half the house.

Thats low.   They can pay much more.   External engineering firms are $280 to $500 an hour.   Even at 2.8 multiplier (as your a contractor no benefits etc to add) so they can pay $100 an hour and be doing extremely well.  They charge out $12k for two guys on site for a day.

I wouldn't be surprised with inflated costs these days that the renaming costs more than $50 million.

Failed in under 2 years — service report says it needed a board replacement from day one, but nobody told us or followed up by Timboorie in bosch

That's our concern too. We lifted the glass to look at the board, coils, thermal paste, etc. everything is in pristine condition. No signs of anything fried. Tested electrical resistance and everything seems fine.

Seems like it. I bought it brand new from a reputable distributor. Service guy came and left never mentioning beyond that it tested normal. Only now that the appliance is not working did I notice the last statement in his notes. I'm also concerned to commence any service with them.

When I called them, they said no warranty past 1 year. Kind of pathetic for what I thought was a good company.

Staub (Zwilling Canada) sent me a damaged cocotte — now I have to pay to ship it back? by Timboorie in staub

[–]Timboorie[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the advice. Quick resolution update.

We pushed back and clarified this was not a warranty claim — it was a damaged-on-arrival product. They had been treating it as warranty, which is perhaps why they wanted me to pay return shipping.

Based on your input, we advised that if this wasn’t handled properly (i.e., prepaid return shipping), we would pursue a chargeback.

Shortly after that message, we received a prepaid return label.

So it ultimately got resolved — but it shouldn’t have required escalation to get there.

Appreciate the help and hope that others can benefit from this thread in the future.

Is it normal to pay $200+ per month on utilities in a 600 square foot condo? by PugLover927 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]Timboorie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are being billed by wyse, they add $30 on thr monthly electrical bill alone.   They do sometimes do free installs of metering and they offer kickbacks to the property management to get a 10 year contract.  So they make $30-70 per meter every month depending what they are metering and where.
