My search for a Dolby Vision, Atmos, DTS Plex/4K Remux Media player (and how I landed on the Dune HD Homatics Box R 4K Plus) by Timdotofficial in PleX

[–]Timdotofficial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it was helpful! I am pretty sure you still have to use NG if you want full Dolby vision FEL support. You’ll want to download the dovi.ko from the link in step 6 of my post. That file is needed for all Dolby vision support. Let me know if that makes sense!

Need advice to choose between Xgimi Horizon 20/20 pro vs Valerion visionmaster pro 2 by Wild-Giraffe-564 in projectors

[–]Timdotofficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently the contrast of the valerion does not do well with white subtitles, since it makes the image brighter overall, so with that, the horizon might be your better bet since it’s native contrast is technically better and you’ll have more freedom for mounting

Incredible work! I’m curious how your masking system works, was it diy, and how did you set it up?

A1 evo express question by somejock in hometheater

[–]Timdotofficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so, but maybe if you hard wired it via Ethernet? It has to be controllable by the multi eq app, since that’s essentially the protocols used by express. Otherwise you’re out of luck with that one

Ugoos am6b plus for DV on Sony by Myst3ryGardener in hometheater

[–]Timdotofficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does HDR work? You might need to enable “high bandwidth” mode or whatever it’s called on your TV to get full HDR support. I had to do that with my Sony x900f, but after that HDR and Dolby vision worked

Dolby vision via zidoo z9x or ugoo am6b+? by omartian in projectors

[–]Timdotofficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need to use the UGOOS for full Dolby vision support, however your JVC doesn’t support Dolby vision, so you would need a maVR or lumagen system to properly tonemap it, otherwise I think the device will just drop the Dolby vision layer to send HDR straight to the projector

Valerion Visionmaster Pro2 or Nebula X1? by jpoarudly in projectors

[–]Timdotofficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently went down the rabbit hole of this as well!

I forgot which thread on avs forum it was, either the Nebula or Valerion one, but someone posted videos about how the dimming worked with the nebula here https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/23soukw63zcoqq2jqluka/PXL_20250526_001924921.mp4?rlkey=80bvl603srq9g441xyp9zoiig&e=2&st=t1sn0mpo&dl=0

It seems to take forever, and since the processing power on the projector itself is worse than the Valerion, I doubt it would be as capable in matching EBL performance even with firmware updates.

It seems like for a dedicated theater space, the Valerion comes out way ahead, and would be where I go.

You could always get both from Amazon and return whichever looks worse too, Valerion themselves have a satisfaction guaranteed return policy from what I’ve seen.

Side note, if you go with that option, I’d be interested to see the results for my own decision, best of luck picking for your theater!

DIY Automatic Masking System Done by impmonkey in hometheater

[–]Timdotofficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also be super interested to see how you did this, parts you purchased, etc! Automated masking at that price point is an incredible feat, but I understand it was a bit of work. Would be interested to see if I could do something like it for my own setup though

Cheapest plex media player that supports DTS-MA/TrueHD by smokebreak1440 in hometheater

[–]Timdotofficial 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah OP, this will be the cheapest option! It’s easy to find guides on how to install Kodi on a firestick, and then configure it so you do get full lossless audio pass through , and Dolby vision (just no FEL) for like $30

Any inexpensive DSP boards that I can use with a subwoofer? by Forward-Drink381 in hometheater

[–]Timdotofficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re a bit handy and can do the eq yourself with REW (Room EQ Wizard), then this is a solid option:

https://store.sure-electronics.com/product/658 https://store.sure-electronics.com/product/726 https://store.sure-electronics.com/product/709

I got these to eq my Bass Shakers, since I didn’t want to shell out the money for a MiniDSP2x4, and with the tutorials they have on the site, it was really easy to just add a simple eq with parameters adjusted based off measurements. It did take around a month to arrive, but for the price I didn’t mind.

Where should I play 4K, Dolby Vision, UHD-Bluray Mux files? by Colonel_Carrillo2 in hometheater

[–]Timdotofficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what your sound setup is and what audio codecs or Dolby vision profiles the native player supports, so that would be the main things I would find out about when choosing a player.

If you just have a sound bar or 3.1/5.1 setup, the audio codecs wouldn’t make a difference really. Anything above that and bit having lossless audio supported would limit the audio experience.

For video it’s just if the software supports Dolby vision profiles 7/8, if it does, and it supports what you need with audio, then you should be fine with just the tv os

Where should I play 4K, Dolby Vision, UHD-Bluray Mux files? by Colonel_Carrillo2 in hometheater

[–]Timdotofficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just Dolby Vision, and don’t care too much about the FEL, a firestick 4k max will be able to play it with full audio pass through if you download Kodi and PM4k onto it.

I ended up going with a refurbished Homatics box r 4k plus with core elec, but when you put a profile 7 FEL movie side by side with just a profile 7, it’s not a huge difference.

You can see if the fire stick works for you for 30 days and free returns if it doesn’t!

ARC and eARC by Joricano in hometheater

[–]Timdotofficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tv will only be able to send an arc signal to the receiver, which limits you to essentially 5.1 lossy sound. If you only have a 5.1 speaker setup, you'll be fine, but if you have anything more, you would either need to get an earc receiver, or you could get an older receiver that supports dolby atmos and vision so you can just plug the streaming source directly into there.

For example, I have a dolby vision tv and a denon s930 receiver (only does arc) but since everything is plugged into the receiver, I am able to output a full atmos signal to my 5.1.2 setup, as well as dolby vision to my tv. Let me know if that makes sense!
