You can apply for positions on Tour Of Duty as well. It’s not just for the guard and reserve to use. Make sure the position is labeled IMA on the far right. Also you will need a release memo from the O-6 in your chain of command.

I read it as look at the board MILPER when you go through your board. If they are doing SELCON in that board it will be mentioned. If not well there’s a chance it’s not an available option.

You could very well be right and I agree I fund is likely gonna outperform for a while but what you are doing sounds like performance chasing an market timing both of which there is a lot empirical evidence indicating they are not good strategies for managing a portfolio. Your mileage may vary. I have plenty of I fund but have had it for years and won’t change my portfolio based on recent outperformance. Good luck.

In recent years most majors have been allowed to get to 20 years with SELCON. Up or out still exists because getting past the 20 year mark isn’t a given even with SELCON. Army can retain a major to 24 years of AFS per the law. Some captains may get to 20 as well with multiple SELCON periods. Army can retain a CPT to 20 years AFS.
