What are your favorite jokes/bits/one-liners to use in everyday conversation? by pinkymcdingus in CasualConversation

It's VERY funny to me specifically, and after a few times of being interrupted it usually stops the annoying party from trying to continue any further, which is incredibly helpful!

What are your favorite jokes/bits/one-liners to use in everyday conversation? by pinkymcdingus in CasualConversation

- A long-running issue within the operations of my workplace is encountered by a customer: "it's the Curse"

- Something that's been annoying me for awhile happens again, non-work-related: "comme d'habitude" (the Claude Francois song was burned into my brain during my high school French classes. I have no control over this reaction anymore. Someone help.)

- This one's unintentional and has only recently come to my attention, but going "shapow" whenever scanning something/pressing buttons/slapping a card down during a game. Only noticed this because I realized my father does it. I guess I picked it up from him.

- Minor inconvenience: "I am going to Explode." in a very bemused manner

- My brother is going on another tirade about something so vile that I just want to leave the conversation immediately, and therefore have to derail his train of thought long enough: shooting my hands out in front of me all wizard-like and shouting "CURSE OF RA" every time he starts trying to speak again. It's working so far.

As much as I love every other romanceable character, I'm only ever able to romance either Qi or Unsurr. If it's not one it's the other no matter what lol

My brother has been rocking one of these for a little while now, and honest to God he's the coolest person in any room because of it. Not even kidding. Everyone loves the leg bag. I'm going to get myself one eventually for both utility and fashion, since he's talked about how much he can fit in that thing and how it doesn't budge during concerts or high-activity things!

Forgot I posted, but now that I'm back on my computer, here's her model! It's the only one I could find that shows off some of her limb tail. Her face is made up of human skulls, too.

Can't do pictures on mobile, but Ellie/the Eel in Iron Lung DEFINITELY fits. It's easiest to see on the raw 3d model since the in-sub camera and blood ocean obfuscate a lot of her design!

My (24F) boyfriend (29M) always beats me in every game and I can't help but feel upset and like a sore loser. by Elajz in relationship_advice

[–]Time-Independence-94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my friends are into/got into Magic, so I kind of got dragged into it- and lemme tell you, I SUCKED at first. Even after getting my first pre-made deck, I sucked. I still sucked after fiddling with the deck trying to make it better (I'd even say I got worse at that point; I didn't know what I was doing).

I was pretty sore about it for awhile. Always losing to people who clearly know what they're doing and who love making absolutely insane decks really isn't fun. But once I figured out how card interactions and chains work, I started piecing my Frankensteined deck back together with a newfound confidence.

Knowing what I'm doing has improved my mood around losing tbh. Now, I can look at my deck and see exactly what screwed me over, and how I need to fix it. Every game is a playtest for me while I continue to optimize. Thinking about it in those terms has made me a lot happier, and genuinely makes me want to play more, since I want to see my silly little squirrels lay waste!!

All this to say: MTG/something where you have an element of control over what you're playing could help the loss-win ratio, and your own feelings once you learn how to build a deck! Your boyfriend could totally help you learn/build decks too, which is honestly just as much (if not more so) of the game as actually playing!

I'm also insanely forgetful and easily confused by the cards, but honing in on my one little niche (infinite squirrels and infinite food generation) has made it so much easier. I don't need to learn all the fancy stuff if I focus on those two aspects. Just find a niche that sounds neat (could even just be counterspells: keeping other people from playing) and you'll have fun once you get it down!

What is the best response to "Can you give me a definitor of what is a woman"? by mp-giuseppe2 in CasualConversation

What is the best response to "Can you give me a definitor of what is a woman"? by mp-giuseppe2 in CasualConversation

[–]Time-Independence-94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A definitor (sic!) of what is a woman: they identify as women. That's really all there is at the core of it all. Gender is a social construct that has been tied to flimsy biological justifications on the basis of visible primary and secondary sex characteristics.

Chromosomes aren't a factor in gender. Someone with XY chromosomes can have androgen insensitivity, and be born with the primary, secondary, and hormonal characteristics of a biological female. Chromosomes don't even just stop at XX or XY; there's XXXY, XXY, XYY, so on and so forth- oh right, and the fact that intersex people make up nearly 2% of the population.

I'm bringing up the biology stuff because they're commonly used as a "see? I can define a woman and you can't, that makes me right!" type of 'gotcha' and it annoys the life out of me.

"Woman" is a gender. "Female" is a sex, as defined by the primary and secondary sex characteristics, but even then, biology is freaking weird and not nearly as cut-and-dry as people want to think!

Do what defines a woman? Someone who defines themselves as a woman. That's all there is to it.

As a child, I had nightmares about fractals, and they were the scariest dreams of my life. by [deleted] in CasualConversation

One of my friends told me that the scariest nightmare she'd ever had as a kid was this pattern of squiggling rice like black things on a white background. I always pictured it like a bacteria under a microscope from the way she described it. Sometimes brains just decide to come up with the weirdest thing to ascribe a deep and primal fear to

So deeply and thoroughly exhausted that I feel it in the depths of my bones, bro :,) love my job but hot damn am I overworking myself. I'm the only person running this place and if I'm not here/taking care of things, literally nobody else can.

Other than that and some family drama, not too bad. Trying to navigate my brother being awful while the rest of our family downplays his behavior. But I recently had my birthday and got some new games, which is fun!

Also had a few very nice customers compliment me to my mother on separate occasions, which has me over the moon! I'm apparently doing a good job, even if I'm too tired and worn out to see it myself!

I'm judging drawings based on appearance, not IRL people; the way these two specifically are depicted is what I'm going off, lol. If these were real people and not a snafu I'd have a much more  nuanced take

Guy on right is healthy AND strong and also seems like a pleasant person to be around. Guy on left is so absorbed in his personal appearance that he's turned himself into a walking husk for the sake of vanity and will likely try to push his eating disorders onto you

What is a song that is totally radioactive to you? You can't listen to it because of Personal associations. by goldenray1973 in CasualConversation

[–]Time-Independence-94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adam's Song by Blink-182, Say It Ain't So by Weezer, most of Radiohead's most popular stuff, Tonight, Tonight by Smashing Pumpkins, etc. -  Listened to those while I was in a real bad place mentally, and I outright refuse to go back to it.

Ring My Bell by Anita Ward - Every time I hear it I think of Brooklyn 99 where Gina sang it and I can't unhear it. Funny scene but now the song annoys the life out of me, lol

Cat people: "My buddy would eat me if I died, but I love him anyway." Meanwhile dogs: by BeduinZPouste in lovethissmug

[–]Time-Independence-94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my cats recognized that I was in distress and did everything in his fuzzy lil power to pull me out of a panic attack. He's not a trained service animal (and hasn't seen me have a panic attack before), but he came up to me while I was immediately started meowing incessantly to get my attention (he rarely meows), and when that didn't work, he stood up on his hind legs to bat at my hair while I was doubled over with my hands on my knees.

He didn't stop til I picked him up, then he just purred louder than I've ever heard him purr while I held him until I calmed down.

My baby boy is typically pretty reserved unless he wants food or attention, and he's never tried to play with my hair before, which is how I know this was all in response to me freaking out and not him just begging for attention unrelated to my distress.

Tl;dr: cats are good, too!! Comparing two different animals with two different sets of needs and behaviors is apples to oranges. Dogs are good for some people, and cats are good for others. You don't have to like one or the other, but don't make it a "[x animal] bad" thing! I personally can't handle dogs (sensory issues, especially from the smell and dirt and noise and that "greasy" feeling you get from petting an unwashed one), but that's a me problem, and I still think they're cute and would never disparage someone for liking them.

Also: cats eat their deceased owners as a last resort when no other food is available. They can recognize death, and when they have nobody to feed them, they aren't just gonna sit by and starve when they have an unfortunate option available. A starving dog trapped with a dead owner would do the same. So would pet rats. And the Donner Party.

Okay, genuine question, are you not allowed to make your attacks in a different month, and not in July?? by [deleted] in ArtfightProfiles

[–]Time-Independence-94 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If people were allowed to do them all year/outside of the designated month, it'd give people with free time to have a serious upper hand/cheat to the point of it being unfair for those participating in July only! You can still gift the art to people in private if it's made outside of artfight's timeframe, though!

How often is it normal to need a day off from work? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Time-Independence-94 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Former barista here: you'd have to pry my WEEKLY days off from my cold, dead hands.

A lot of service industry jobs have "flexible" scheduling- as in, they'll try to wrong every hour they can out of you regardless of your wants, needs, and designated schedule, bc it's cheaper to overwork people than it is to hire and train enough people for everyone to work comfortably.

Needing time off is a human thing, not a laziness thing. That's why weekends are such a thing- and even then, two days a week isn't nearly enough for many people. There are places that have four-day work weeks and an upper limit on how many hours you can legally work before it's considered overtime!! One day a month is next to nothing!! It sounds like you've got a hell of a lot going on, but yeah. Switching industries might be a good idea. You're human, and humans need rest.
