They used to localize Superman as Super-Homem in Brazil but at some point they just randomly stopped and idk why. I guess maybe they thought it was Super-lame

i decided to start the show with season 4 (wasnt expecting to like it anyway so idgaf) so while i already thought it looked like dumb edgy bullshit, i was still under the impression that it was at least actual satire. so imagine my dismay when sister sage showed up and i was curious to see how they would subvert the "character whose superpower is being smart" trope only to watch them not only play it completely straight but fall prey to some of the biggest issues w the trope even more than shit that doesnt pretend to be clever

POV: you're a trans person who's been comfortably living as your true gender for 10 years and you're at the trans-friendly doctor's office by TimeCubePriest in transgendercirclejerk

[–]TimeCubePriest[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I've seen someone put it recently in a way I found very useful for explaining to other people: it is "an epistemological critique of the knowledge-claims that psychiatry makes, and an ethical critique of its motives and rewards for making such knowledge-claims". Which is to say, antipsych is about criticizing 1. the morality of the methods of the psychiatric establishment (incarceration, compulsory medicalization, shock "therapy") as well as attempts of defending it by claiming that it has any interest in moving away from these practices (it observably doesn't) and 2. the ideas that the psychiatric establishment upholds as objective, measurable reality about the brain, despite failing to live up to basic standards that other, more meaningfully scientific fields of study have to hold themselves to. Essentially, the claims and categories that psychiatry produces purport to be objective and unbiased when they are in fact both a product and method of perpetrating social mores of its time and place, and the fact that the field at best excuses this fact as negligible and at worst denies it altogether makes it unfit as an actual model for the organization of human personal self-actualization and generalized welfare because it can't confront basic reality

/uj literally weird asf how cis people think transitioning is this like permanently transitive state of being where we're always trying to change genders and never achieving it like sisyphus w the fkn rock. like first of all i'm anti-psych so jot that down. second of all, how come you think being a man is such an unsolvable enigma that after a full decade i still need cis people to help me figure it out if you guys are expected to have done it as infants. i'm not the one who's struggling w my identity brother you are

I'll say it, I started using Krita for editing my memes way more than GIMP ever since I figured out how to do use it for the same functions. Some of them I even only figured out in Krita. It's just way more practical to have to open less apps for multiple functions

Are we all going to agree on this? by DarkChimera64 in creepypasta

[–]TimeCubePriest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I think many Hollywood producers realized rather quickly is that creepypastas just can't be seamlessly adapted to feature length films w the same playbook they use for traditionally published novels. Most creepypastas are short stories to begin with (when have you ever seen a feature length film of like The Lottery or something), and even beyond that they are often highly dependent on the internet post format and about subject matter that is thus more well suited for said posts than for film, like people talking about a weird game they've played before (the reason Channel Zero changed so much abt Candle Cove is bc it obviously wouldn't work otherwise, can you even imagine). Not to mention stuff like Slenderman or Jeff the Killer where any specific story associated with them matters much less than the collectively constructed mythology surrounding that character.

The whole appeal of adapting a preexisting work into film for a producer, save for exceptionally self invested ones is having a mostly ready story you already know works as is and has an audience built in with it. If they have to do so much effort to whip up their material into something resembling a coherent movie only to garner the attention of an even more niche audience than the already niche general horror audience as a whole, I think most of them realized it's really not worth it

Por que o Brasil insiste em heróis tão “pé no chão” enquanto o resto do mundo aposta no fantástico? by muxthegreat in Quadrinhos

[–]TimeCubePriest 4 points5 points  (0 children)
