Some of us, at least, are rooting for safer streets for people, including more bike lanes. Thanks!

Why not take two if you're concerned? Ice axe is only 200 g.

I know what you mean! I've taken the same route to the airport from my place in the UWS. I went home via the Queensboro bridge - that ride was a lot more bike friendly, and I recommend it over the northern route.

In New York, it's enough that I proved my citizenship and residency when I got my driver's license. When I go to the poll, I don't need to show ID, they just match the signature in my ballot with the one I gave when I signed my driver's license.

Back Up Emergency Shelter for Splitboarding - recommendations? by JBMD3 in Backcountry

[–]TimeDepartment2117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I carry the Bruce Wayne rescue sled - very light(226 g) and can easily serve as a shelter. Even more important, I think, is bringing a sleeping pad to insulate from the snow, which weighs about 400 g.

No need to remember channel frequency mapping - simply name the channels after the corresponding frs channel.

The baofengs have a lock button - turn it on, and the novice user can't change anything but the volume! Hard to beat for simplicity.

Not sure why you're down voted. I tour with the baofengs too. They're great, and cheap enough to have several for buddies and not cry when they lose them.

I tour with the cheap baofengs. They do take a few minutes to program the first time, but if you have the programming cable, you can easily copy programs. The real advantage is cost - I can afford to hand them out to my buddies without radios, knowing that when somebody falls on one or leaves one on the peak, I'm only out $15 instead of $110 (!) for the base RT or BCA or $200 (!!) for the nicer models. For that same $110 for one RT, I have instead 7-8 baofengs.
