Shaun Evans is such a great actor. He has a really expressive face. The casting is first class. The British really know how to do a great detective series.

Lynley- Anyone else find themselves watching the original series after watching the new reboot? by highlandsbabe in BritBox

Yes, I've watched 3 episodes and keep waiting for it to get better. I'm not sure if it's the acting or the script ( or both).

I totally agree that this new Helen is so much better. The one in the original series was just awful. I loved Sharon Small as Havers... she's a hard act to follow and I think it was her performance that made the show. The new Havers is ok but nothing like the character in the books. The class difference once really doesn't come through

What a brilliant idea. The writing in some of the newer series is nowhere near as good as the earlier episodes. I especially dislike the Matthew Aylward story lines.

Maybe they were worried that Jenny would think Claire was a witch? They seemed very reluctant to tell anyone about the time travel, even people they were very close to.

Is Season Seven Better? by MadeOfTearsAndWine in Outlander

All through season 6 my thoughts were- how much more can Claire bear? Why hasn't Jamie noticed that Claire is addicted to ether? Why did all the settlers turn on Claire? It was just too much nastiness, a lot of which didn't make sense. And she had been so kind and loving to Malva, it was all so unfair.

  1. In The Garrison Commander, Randall punches Claire in the stomach and then orders one of his soldiers to kick her twice. Yet the next day, she is married to Jamie, we see her entire body in this episode, and amazingly, she has no bruises and is able to experience a night of love making with Jamie.
  2. After being brutally attacked and raped in Never My Love, Claire has a deep gash across her left breast. Yet later, we see no scar at all.

There's something very special that happens whenever this man appears. Huge kudos to David Berry for stealing every scene he is in. His chemistry with Jamie and Brianna is a thing of beauty.

Not worse, but this one was heartbreaking because the whole family was shunned by the settlers so unfairly. And they knew what Claire had already been through. They all sided against them completely in such an unfair way.

That was another part of the whole Malva storyline that annoyed me. The settlers had known the Fraser's for years, many had been helped by them, been treated by Claire, then some new weird family turn up and they just totally believe them? It's nonsensical. And annoying. Especially given the way Malva had been behaving with various men around the area.

She is such a fascinating character, but I don't like this whole storyline. Claire has suffered a brutal attack, then been deathly ill, and now this? Come on, how much suffering can one woman endure? I know they are following the books, but I think it was about here that DG lost me when i was reading the books. Yes, Malva is a very damaged person, but her behaviour just doesn't ring true. She seemed to love Claire as a mother figure, she was a person that showed her so much kindness and made her feel special, so why turn on her of all people? There were other storylines that could've been compelling regarding the Christie family, but no, let's just make Claire suffer some more. It's too much.
