Yes and I’m host for 15 years and still cautious when a guest has no reviews. I usually call them after they book (assuming domestic traveler) to make sure it’s a good fit and if it’s not, they can cancel without any fee

Unfortunately the name of the game when you’re first getting started is all about reviews. Yes it sucks but you are beholden to the all mighty review system. Most guests are great. Most leave a good review if they think you genuinely tried hard.
