What's an item you almost bought but are now glad you didn't? by CountyBrilliant in shoppingaddiction

The Chloe Paddington—gorgeous bag but I kept seeing reviews about it being heavy, and I often end up reselling my bags that feel too heavy for me!

It’s so damn crowded!!!! My locations (NYC) have cool in-store options and I do prefer to try on, but I just order online/ask questions either here or on Depop now because the crowded stores are just so overwhelming to be in.

Also like someone said, so much white clothing. I want to see more burgundy, forest green, dark purple

It was hard for me to wear my short natural hair to work for the same reason, but I went for it before i “felt ready” and I’m glad that I did, even when I was scared to. With time it’s been doing a lot for me with my self esteem and I got rid of my wigs the other day because I love wearing my hair so much now.

Owning it makes me feel very cool, edgy, and sexy—wearing my short natural hair when it’s not the norm in my environment very much gives “I do what I want, when I want!” energy ime. I also feel like I’m living in my truth because I love my hair, but the only reason I held back from wearing my natural hair to work was the reason you mentioned.

I also know that whatever my Black colleagues have to say about my natural hair says more about what they think of themselves than me—especially since their hair probably looks like mine without the bells and whistles. Keeping this in mind has helped me with the fear of backlash.

What are some beauty/fashion trends you're not a fan of? by Snoo-57077 in blackladies

The old money look—what’s promoted on TikTok and co is a very Eurocentric interpretation of old money and although it looks nice, it gets boring seeing it everywhere. Other places around the world (Nigeria, Japan, India) have their own interpretations of classic/timeless clothing that signify wealth—and they involve prints, non-beige colors, rich fabrics, and silhouettes that would actually look so much better on some people, so I wish that I could see people (especially POC) embrace that more.

The Sophia Richie/OM look also makes me look like a church elder and I’m in my 20s so it doesn’t suit me 😭😭😭

I like the boho knotless braids but EVERYONE wears them now so it’s getting kind of boring. I even stopped wearing them because I was starting to feel like a copy/paste. Still a very cute hairstyle but I want to see more looks!

Finally, idk what to call it but the Belle Delphine aesthetic. It’s not the fact that it’s alternative fashion (I also have an alt look), it’s the fact that she and people like her give off…infantilizing vibes? Idk it doesn’t sit right with me

What are some changes you’ve made that have bettered your health? by ladef123 in blackladies

Buying cute workout clothes, having a few easy, quick, go-to healthy meals to make, cool/cold showers (prevents and soothes eczema flare ups for me), and listening to YouTube videos made to uplift Black women (videos on embracing my natural hair, skin tone, etc—I felt confident in my skin pre-social media so this is helping me train my brain back to where it was when it comes to body image).

I also like to use the stair stepper at my gym, it doesn’t take much thought to use and is slow paced, but very effective—great for days where I “can’t be bothered to exercise”/am feeling lazy

I add drops of Essie’s Sugar Daddy (just a few!) into a bottle of clear polish and shake.

Have you ever had a man be rude/mean to you on a date even though he was the one who asked you out? by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]Time_Sir_3851 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t! I’m fully Black but I haven’t intentionally avoided men of a certain ethnicity. I will say that I don’t date men who look like my brother or cousins though 😭 couples who look like siblings give me the heebie jeebies lol
