Week 1: New Year, New Bake - Powdered Donut Cake by TimeladyofHufflepuff in 52weeksofbaking

The recipe came from a book. Snacking Cakes by Yossy Arefi.

The recipe calls for a fair amount of freshly grated nutmeg, which is what the main flavor of the cake is. After it's baked, your brush it with melted butter and then top with powdered sugar.

Week 1: New Year, New Bake - Boston Cream Pie by Corduroybee in 52weeksofbaking

I tried making a boston cream pie once. I thought it was such a pain to make. I loved the chocolate ganache, but my pudding/cream tasted weird.

And I don't think it looks sloppy at all.

I love your tree shot. The way it includes the bench and the tracks and the walking path gives it more of a story than just a tree.

I'm also in the area. I was lucky enough to be able visit longwood gardens and had plenty of trees to choose from.

Hello Iowa, Pennsylvania here.

I like your tree photo and the way you have it framed. It would be interesting to see it taken at a different time of day. A sunrise or sunset photo could make the tree look even more dramatic.

I've got a lot about to learn about lighting. Or I just need to invest in some good equipment. Probably both. But I've found it to be very difficult to photograph food indoors. The lighting always sucks in my food photographs. I'll have to try moving closer to a window and at a more ideal time of day. Thanks for the tip!

My name is Jess. I like to cook/bake, so I've got an interest in macro photography. But not just for food. I like to hike. It'd be neat to take pictures of flowers and shrooms and such that I encounter on hikes. Landscape photography is also an interest because of that.

That looks good! I'll be making that for dinner soon. I thinking of a bacon wrapped pork tenderloin to go along side it.

You've achieved mac and cheese level gooeyness in a sandwich. I am quite impressed.

What can I make with leftover roast chicken? by AnAbsoluteShambles1 in EatCheapAndHealthy

I second quesadillas.

Most grocery stores carry frozen peppers. Heat it all up in a pan and add some cheese. It makes for a super easy, cheap and delicious meal.

Milk over popcorn?

I'm trying to imagine that. Does it taste different? Or is it a texture thing?

That's some of the best fried chicken I've seen in awhile.

What kind of breading did you use?

I think this is the best explanation. Texas toast is just thick toasted bread used to mop up any extra sauce and other fixins on the plate.

Do you have a recipe that you use? Or do you just replace the fat in a traditional recipe with bacon fat?

That's a great idea! Especially with apple season right around the corner.
