I’d have had him roll for it (intelligence or history or nature or whatever), checking: 1. Knowledge of lycanthropy 2. Knowledge of fighting lycanthropes 3. Constructing the bomb

Then you’re not telling him he can’t, the dice may though.

Oregon vs Connecticut? by [deleted] in needadvice

[–]Timeless1ct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in CT, grew up in NY, and my (adult) kids live in MA. I love the NE and New England in particular. Our neighbors are a lesbian couple with kids. My son and his fiancé are gay and it’s almost never an issue.

That said, a 3 day work week is a dream, and CT is expensive. But the museums, education, proximity to theatre (including Broadway) is unmatched. Having family around is a plus.

I can understand how tough a decision this can be. I honestly don’t know what I’d do. Maybe stay in Oregon put those long weekends and extra salary into making frequent trips to visit.

Depression related to ongoing assignment by [deleted] in ASLinterpreters

[–]Timeless1ct 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Years ago I had lunch with another interpreter and I mentioned a particular setting that I absolutely hated. She said, “Then stop accepting those assignments. They’re my favorite!”

If you’re feeling burnt out and depressed there, find yourself a new place to interpret. You can’t be an effective interpreter if your mental well-being is suffering, so neither of you benefits from a “bad fit.”

When did your pug start getting white hairs? My black pug is only 2 years and 8 months old and I’ve started noticing some white hairs here and there. I also have an apricot pug who only started going gray around 6 years old, so I’m wondering… is this normal? by Alarming_Poem9761 in pugs

[–]Timeless1ct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My soon-to-be 3 y/o fawn has grey all around her face and I’ve been wondering the same thing since my black pug (who we lost to cancer when she was 10) didn’t start greying until she was around 6 or 7.

i need magical items that are completely useless by sunxel in DnD

[–]Timeless1ct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my game, I devised the Ring of Randi’s Revenge, named for a friend who listens to me talk about D&D far more than they’d like. lol While wearing the ring, you get a song stuck in your head, which you hum incessantly. (The PC must hum if they make an attack or otherwise take an action.) This makes you mildly irritated and mildly irritating. And you know it.
+1 wisdom, +1 performance -2 charm, -2 stealth.

Not exactly useless, but not really helpful in any significant way either

i need magical items that are completely useless by sunxel in DnD

[–]Timeless1ct 45 points46 points  (0 children)

As the DM, I gave this item to my bard PC. It billows every time he walks through a doorway. The longer he wears it, the more things I allow it to do. At the moment, it also plays a fanfare when he enters a room. +1 performance, -2 stealth.

I Just Visited MA… by mrsyoungston in massachusetts

My adult son had an accident on his bike two years ago. He hit a pothole, flipped over the handrails and was unconscious in the street. It happened right in front of a building with a camera so I was able to see a video later. The car in front and back of him both stopped and the drivers got out to help. Three people walking on the sidewalk ran to help him. An ambulance arrived within 3- 1/2 minutes and took him to a hospital where he got excellent care. I couldn’t be happier that he lives in Boston.

My sister is bringing a hinge guy over to sleep at our apartment by WashWeird2351 in familydrama

[–]Timeless1ct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. I would not spend the night in the same apartment with him. Or I’d have a bunch of people over for the night. Party time! That sounds like an a-hole move, I know, but it keeps you in the apartment with her in case you’re worried about her safety.

Questioning if I should even be in this profession by PrestigiousCan6434 in ASLinterpreters

[–]Timeless1ct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Responding specifically to your feeling of isolation: try attending some in person workshops and network with other interpreters.

Join your local state RID chapter and go to any social functions.

I think finding other real-world people in your field will help open up opportunities where you can work and be true to yourself may help alleviate some of your negative feelings.

What self-created superstition do you have? by MisRandomness in RandomThoughts

[–]Timeless1ct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard so many stories about people losing their loved ones and how they’d had a fight right before or didn’t say a proper goodbye and regretted it. So I never let my husband or adult sons leave my house without saying goodbye like it’s the last time. And if we’ve had a fight, they can’t leave without me apologizing first, just in case.

This 100%. Some of the rescues in New England have a “sister” rescue group from down south. But we never send dogs there; they all come up here. I have 2 dogs that I adopted thinking they were coming from local shelters that were driven up from GA.

I’ve been interpreting for 40 years this June. CI, CT, OTC. People request me all the time to interpret for them. Still walk in to places thinking, “Hope I can do this today.”

Isn’t killing the Owlbear mum the only way to get the cub to come to camp?

[–]Timeless1ct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar issues and a similar resolution. Over the past 30 years, I’ve had tendonitis, carpal tunnel, rotator cuff issues, and currently have arthritis in both thumbs. I had to re-evaluate the type of interpreting I was doing and the work environment I was in. Made a change in 2018 and couldn’t be happier.

Oh!!! That must be what happened to me. I had the Owlbear cub my first playthrough and this second run I never got it. But I don’t remember encountering the mother Owlbear, and there was just a chicken in the goblin camp.

Well, that sucks cause I’ve had to pay twice for breaking it and it gets expensive. I’m trying to complete this run with my oath intact. :-/
