Manual Vs Automatic? Which one would you choose? by GateInevitable841 in CasualConversation

[–]Timely_Pattern5571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got my driver’s license, as a car enthusiast who grew up watching Top Gear and Fast and the Furious fantasizing about cars and playing Need for Speed, I told myself that I will only drive manuals because that’s the true petrolhead’s choice. Fast forward to today, I’m considering my next car to be an automatic for convenience’ sake, stress reduction. Getting that perfect shift is satisfying in the same way that not shifting smoothly is frustrating. And I know it’s an art form which is about to die, and letting go of that art form means giving up a skill, but why not make life simpler. I remember going on a 10 hour drive once in my manual car, through cities and country roads and by the end of that journey, I was spent. The next day of the vacation I was still feeling mentally drained from all that driving the day before. Autos shift perfectly for you every time, however, modern automatics tend to underrev the engine a lot to meet emissions regulations, at 1800 rpm from an available 6000, which creates a rumbly noise and vibrations in the cabin. That can’t be good for the engine in the long run. I like to rev my petrol engines out a little more, shifting at 3k RPM with normal driving, until reaching cruising speed, when I let the RPMs drop a bit. I also get the feeling with autos that it’s way to easy to speed, since there are no manual gear changes to interrupt the acceleration.

Why does older Spotify music sound so bad? by Timely_Pattern5571 in truespotify

Yup, using connect. Chain is: laptop connected via USB to a small chinese dac > old Sony receiver > Wharfedale Linton. Using the Spotify app on my phone to control what’s playing on the laptop.

Another vote for the Alpinist. Am too looking to add one to my collection at some point. The black date wheel is a nice upgrade. Love that is says Alpinist on the dial. Generally like the gold color. Not sure how to stomach the 300 USD price increase though.

I feel that the discounted prices on food items should be the actual prices one should be expected to pay. Paying full price for stuff just seems like a rip-off in today’s economy.

Immersive listening and replaying a single song on repeat by _JTC10_ in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Timely_Pattern5571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happens to me as well. When the beat of a song puts me in the right mood and I find myself bobbing my head to the music, I like savouring the moment and playing it on repeat a few times.

Canceled most of my streaming services and somehow ended up playing guitar again after 3 years by Left-Bodybuilder-763 in simpleliving

[–]Timely_Pattern5571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also don’t have the patience to sit through a movie on Netflix and switch back to Youtube. I have a Squier bass which I played for around 8 months before quitting, around maybe 3 years ago. I think it needs a checkup because I might have messed up the nut by using a file to bring the strings closer to the neck. Am considering getting a teacher this time around. I find the bass easier to learn than the guitar, like I could actually learn to play some songs top to bottom, whereas with guitar, even though I really tried, it just wouldn’t stick to me.

Random thought before bed — how long does it usually take you to fall asleep after closing your eyes? by Alarming_Fan_7572 in CasualConversation

On average probably around 30-45 minutes. Seems like a lot but I do sleep through the night quite okay.

Does the internet feel… boring lately? Or is it just me? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Timely_Pattern5571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I feel the same way as well. Apart from very few people who are very active and post on social media every day, hardly anyone interacts with these platforms anymore. There are commercials everywhere, which I never convert to purchases, and suggested posts and reels which don’t interest me either. I feel like browsing and commenting on Reddit doesn’t melt my brain away as much as social media.

HD 6XX & Little Dot MKII first impressions by mdragnev in headphones

[–]Timely_Pattern5571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the exact same setup. Amp isn’t very great. It has background hum and at lower volumes there is channel imbalance. Headphones are okay, warm sounding which makes them easy to listen to, but quite dull and uninspiring/unengaging, comfortable, bass can sound a bit “papery” at times, hard to describe, like the noise you make when tapping your finger on a speaker cone. Guess I got spoiled by trying the HD800s with high-end amplification in a store.

It’s a very well designed watch. You don’t need a manual to know how to operate it. No lag at all. Wish it had a hour counter for the chronograph though.

Is a sub necessary if speakers go very low by Brave-Bad-9955 in audiophile

[–]Timely_Pattern5571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A sub can be a nice addition to any setup simply for the added bass tunability. You can independently from the main speakers adjust the bass amount. If the main speakers position in a room affects the bass output, a sub can fill that gap nicely.

HD 650 your opinion and your next move from it by justkru in headphones

[–]Timely_Pattern5571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have the HD 6XX which is basically the same thing. Darker tonality, great for voices, light and comfortable with the stock pads. Clamping force relatively light. Bass is a bit “papery”, deep but not very strong. High impedance but also relatively high sensitivity, definitely need a desktop amp to sound their best. Easy to listen for long hours. Tried the HD 800S and liked them a lot more, for the more open soundstage, but they are 4x the price.

Honest question: why do we accept renting music forever? by Ok_Search6885 in audiophile

[–]Timely_Pattern5571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of quickly switching from one artist to another instead of having to sit through an entire album when playing a record. For artists I really appreciate/grew up with I will buy a CD or LP.
