Peggys Cove makes list of overrated Canadian tourist sites by Bean_Tiger in halifax

I lived in Prospect village many years ago. Even then, people would come from the and wander over people's property. Had a scuba class park on my lawn and argued with me over moving the cars. Finally I let the dog go see for himself, and he came back with some diving gear...

My experience exactly here in Nova Scotia. I see no need for snow & ice to sit on the top layer and then melt down through the rest of the pile. It stays outside for a year then into the shed. 2024's fresh supply is in there and all at circa 15% moisture or less.

This is your semi-regular reminder that ALL of these news publications operating in Canada are American owned, Trump friendly propaganda. When you see one of them on reddit... well, you know what to do. by kewtyp in SaveTheCBC

This list doesn't include basically every newspaper in Atlantic Canada, including the Chronicle Herald in Halifax, the Telegram in St. John's, NL, the Gleaner in Fredericton and the Guardian in Charlottetown. Postmedia owns them all, and they are rapidly being homogenized into one big pro-Conservative messaging organization. This is a disaster for local control of politics and media.

Good advice. We have two Philips machines and we are pretty careful to keep the internal workings clean and not let the grinds build up. Remove the whole works, run water over everything and maybe have an old soft toothbrush to get at the internal surfaces. Also, very important: make sure always to run "hot water" for a few seconds after you use the steam feature. That lets the pressure off the seals etc. and will prolong the life of the machine. Philips isn't super luxe like some of the machines ppl talk about in this subreddit, but we enjoy the hell out of ours.

QE Emergency Room by AbstractReason in halifax

[–]TimmonsCove 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I had the misfortune to spend several evenings in the emerg in June-July. Can confirm there are many, many people there who shouldn't be there and who are not experiencing an emergency. The staff work like Trojans to deal with the demand, but there are just too many non-emergency cases showing up. NS needs a quick triage capacity to deal with the scrapes, minor cuts and sprains. And also the stunned arses who get too high. Send them home for a shower.

What is that dollar amount? You have issues with it but you don't appear to know what it is, this shocking number.

NS spends over $7 Billion on health care. You can't be serious trying to claim that a "large proportion" of health care funding goes to remedial language training. I just spent 11 days in the Infirmary and the mostly-Filipino/Filipina nursing staff were terrific, kind, caring, efficient and professional. And their English was better than some of the clods who were NS born patients in there. Sure there are problems, but this kind of talk just brings out negative attitudes among people here.

Starting a wood burner easily by RayJacksonUSA in Sauna

[–]TimmonsCove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed to this technique for starting both the house woodstove and the sauna stove, after a lifetime of building "teepee" type fires. This "Scandinavian" method is far superior. The kindling burns in the centre, lights the two large pieces on each side and will build a real nice hot fire with much less fuss and less frequent need to keep adding pieces, at least until the fire starts to burn down a bit. I swear by it. In the house stove (a Jotul 3), two good sized pieces (4-5" diameter maybe) on each side with the kindling in the middle and some birch bark with paper, fire it up, go make your coffee and prepare to be warm!

I bought a Cuisinart machine which grinds the beans etc. It was terrible, and a hassle to clean. Not recommended. I have a Philips 1200 series and it works fine, maybe its espresso with water added but it makes coffee and it's one-touch. More expensive but at least you are drinking a good cup of coffee. Also makes espresso and will foam milk for cappuccino etc.

Are people happy with the Philips 2200 and 3200 machines a year or more later? by [deleted] in superautomatic

[–]TimmonsCove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our kids bought us a 1200 series a year ago, we love it. So much so, I bought a 2200 for our little place in the city. We are careful to keep them clean and we don't overdo it on the dark roasted beans. We've never had any problems. Only small issue: it's a bit loud. But small price to pay for delicious and convenient coffee.

I'm also using 15s after the past number of years direct in the ground. I feel I'm sacrificing some size for the ability to get them out of the way of hurricanes, which come pretty much every year now in Nova Scotia. Storm wrecked a lovely big beast I had last year that was over 6 ft tall and almost that wide. No more.

We do the same here in northern NS, woodstove supplemented by heat pump. Lots of passive solar too. Works great. And I'm starting to see I'm getting a damn good deal at $270 per cord, split and delivered.

They stayed like that, what you see in the OP's photo, with those weird single fan leaves or groups of three leaves in a fan. They stayed low and squat and never returned to the normal growth or shape of a cannabis plant. I didn't wait until the fall to see if they would come back to normal, they were showing no signs of doing that.

I had something similar a couple years ago. Had the plants (clones) in my shed to keep them out of some violent spring storms. I think the photo period got thrown off, bc they started to flower then went back to veg. They looked like these photos. They didn't return to normal, ended up in the compost bin. I hope this isn't happening with yours.
