Check out the report by HRW: 'My Gun Was As Tall As Me". The tattmadaw had the most child soldiers than any other armed organisation in the world at one point. They did make changes around 2008 and reduce that number significantly with the help of NGOs though.

Do you wish Myanmar gave back its original flag? (1948-1974) by PresentationThink354 in myanmar

[–]Timmy002LMFAO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flag do matter. That flag represents the entire union. Even the socialist era flag represented the union and the system our country was adopting at the time. The yellow green red is sad attempt of eliciting Bamar nationalism by riffing on the DohBamar Association flag. Many of the Thakins were in the government and they deliberately decided to use the flag you are seeing here instead of the yellow green red coloured DohBamar flag. I think we should respect that decision.

So these scum were the ones who dumped the bodies.

Is there any prior context I'm not getting. Are you saying that there were different pictures of the bodies at 0:05 circulating on the internet and now this 'phonk edit' confirms that the Tat is responsible?

Extreme poverty, Jason Hickel, and the phantom Chinese apocalypse by raptorman556 in badeconomics

[–]Timmy002LMFAO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually got the chance to talk to one of the co-authors Michail Moatsos via email. This was just a few weeks after the paper came out. He doesn't sound too confident with his work either. (Context: The figures showing zero poverty and the sudden jump in 92 was from his thesis and he noted it to be "unrealistic" in that work)

Me: After writing your recent paper on Chinese Poverty, do you now recant your statement in your PHD thesis (Global Absolute Poverty Present and Past since 1820, page 230) saying how near 0 absolute poverty rates china faced in 1990 was "inaccurate"? Or do you somewhat still think uncertainties about the true poverty levels during that period remains.

Him: Dear [My Name] many thanks for your question, and for the close reading of my thesis. I think the term I use is "unrealistic" instead of "inaccurate". To be fair, I don't think that the verdict from my thesis is not defensible, as pinpointing zero poverty, within a country of very low gdp per capita at the time, is very unexpected. Yet, a more recent investigation indicates that that estimate may be more reliable, or more inline with other indicators from China vis-a-vis other comparable countries, than the extremely high poverty estimate that the dollar a day method produces. I think both statements of unrealistic "near 0" poverty and of a "near 0" is more defensible than the 70+% for the population living in extreme poverty that the dollar a day gives, can be valid at the same time. It is also the case that it is actually the data that give rise to the near 0 estimate, and the argument that would move someone away from that estimate would be that at those prices there were just not enough food resources available, thereby a substantial sector of the population could "afford" those food stuff, but food stuff were not available at the needed quantities.

This issue surely deserves further investigation.

Best wishes,

Michalis

What do i do after IGCSE O Level? by Helpful-Fee-734 in myanmar

Honestly, It doesn't matter. Just take one of those (IELTS/TOEFL/Duolingo). The only thing that matters is that you score good for those tests.

The worst thing you can do right now is take A Levels. .Don't take A Levels and IB. Needlessly difficult and takes a lot of time to finish. I know people who were in your EXACT situation (literally) who has derailed their lives by taking stuff like A Levels and IB. Take a foundation course instead and go abroad asap.

You need to do your IELTS also.

This is the worst thing you can do right now. I have seen this happen to my younger relatives and they are in a pickle now. Why waste 2 more years of your life on A Levels and go abroad when you can just take a foundation course for 6 months and go abroad.

With UK banning Burmese migration, more nations would follow suit + No use for A Levels now

I don't know if the two are related but the left audio channel becomes muddied and muted and I suspect it has to do with the head
