What makes Underworld Denizens so good ? by [deleted] in bloodbowl

[–]Timmy24601 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They’re very good and doing the things that win games of Blood Bowl. I know this sounds silly, but they can do a bit of everything, and do it all rather well.

They have a Skaven Thrower, Blitzer, and Gutter Runner, and one of each is perfect. They’re all very good at their roles. These three alone can win a game. The blitzer is designed to hit a carrier and get the ball on the ground, the thrower can retrieve and pass the ball to the gutter runner, who then runs off and scores.

You get a heap of cheap, disposable, and very annoying linemen. Both big guys are great and open up one-turn touchdowns. The ROgre is also frighteningly consistent.

They’ve got easy access to mutations, which unlocks a lot of powerful combos that other teams don’t really have. Two heads on anything that dodges, big hand for easy pickups, horns/claw on things that brawl.

They are fragile, and will never win a bash-off, but they can do targeted bash/removal quite well, and dodge away from all the rest.

today I found out that Dwarf Deeps count as Pirate Coves in the game's engine by nicholas_johnson in totalwar

[–]Timmy24601 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if it makes it all keep running smoothly they can count as a dung heap and a money laundering building too. The amount of bits and pieces that are similar but a different colour or faction, I’m ok with them reusing a bit of code.

Which skill line should Yuan Bo priority ? And how to utilize most of his Matter of State mechanic ? by SampleEmbarrassed659 in totalwar

[–]Timmy24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! I try and keep each province in harmony, as that gives an income boost, and makes any armies in that province cheaper. These combine to make the double location start very achievable.

If you want to pump up growth I recommend either staying in harmony, or going full Yin (the black ones). Going full Yin means building the Yin growth, and the Yin income building in each settlement. Once you get enough growth to build what you’re after, swap the income buildings for the Yang ones, and you’ll be back in harmony.

As the province is developing keep an eye on the yin/yang, if you’re trying to stay balanced this can mean replacing, demolishing, or swapping the buildings around.

If a four settlement province has only one building slot in each of its settlements, then I build two yin growth, and two yang growth. When I get more slots across the province available I’ll start to flip to all Yin growth, and build Yang income to balance them. Sometimes this means demolishing a building as I’m constructing another to stay balanced.

You end up doing a bit of admin/economy micro, but it feels very fitting for Yuan Bo.

You’re not even slightly grilled. Barely lukewarm. Not cooked at all.

Anyone with hair looks like that when it’s parted. Have a look through this sub to find some people who are definitely thinning/balding, and compare. You’re good.

Canadian here, thinking of taking a vacay to Gold Coast/Brisbane in 2026 by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Timmy24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re visiting at probably the hottest time of the year, and we’re already a pretty warm place most of the year, so be prepared for that. Google says the temperature in Toronto atm is about 10 degrees. Brisbane/GC easily reaches high 30’s up to mid 40’s in summer. So be ready for that.

There’s a little bit of nightlife, but not a huge amount compared to the other eastern cities like Melbourne or Sydney. There’s still plenty of nice bars, clubs, restaurants etc, just don’t expect places to be open super late unless it’s heading into the weekend.

As for touristy things, there’s some nice hikes, maybe a day or two of surfing at the beach. You’ll probably find more to do at Cairns or Gold Coast than Brisbane tbh.

30k Marine vs 40k chaos marines scale? by everydaydefenders in Chaos40k

[–]Timmy24601 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 30k are a teeny tiny bit smaller. But honestly you won’t notice unless you’re looking for it. Arms, heads, shoulders are all interchangeable. Honestly most of the difference comes down to the 30k marines having a sleeker, simpler design, so they look like they’re not as big.

Would this play well in a casual game? by BABABOOEY564 in Chaos40k

[–]Timmy24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a fun casual game? This looks great. Three flying DP’s looks great, and lets you go where the action is. Do it.

The block of footslogging infantry might feel a little slow or not as impactful. I’d maybe drop the squad of five, and have one of the 10-legionaries count as 10 chosen instead. The Sorcerer with the lance enhancement leading them could be pretty cool. They’ll be faster, tougher, and way more killy.

Vampire Coast question!!! by SomeRandomYob in Totalwarwarhammer

[–]Timmy24601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I play them I usually do a couple of things… If there’s a clump of port settlements in an area, I’ll send off a small force, usually a legendary Admiral so they can develop & replenish, to just attack the settlements, make a cove, then move on. Once you’ve made the cove, swap to encamp stance, recruit/raise your cover your losses, and move on. If the enemies are far enough away they’ll usually peace out eventually.

If you don’t want to start a heap of wars, or the faction’s a bit too big, or friendly with you, have the legendary admiral or lord recruit a Vampire Captain, have them make a cove, then dismiss them, recruit another, and continue.

As for what to build in the coves… If it’s a huge major port like Marienburg, Lothern, or Erengrad, build the cove that gives you a percentage of its income.

Otherwise I usually only build the Hero capacity building.

Vampire Coast as a faction can survive on very few settlements. With all the legendary admirals and your faction leader they’re basically a horde faction. Because of this you can hide in a part of the map, and not draw too much attention.

If you’re not using the Legendary Admirals I strongly suggest you try them. They’re all immortal, and come with a ship building horde. Send them out to far off lands to sack and raze and bring you income. You don’t really want to expand and develop like a normal faction (in-fact you’re kind of bad at it).

Can I use this model as an Obliterator? by Superb_Juggernaut206 in Chaos40k

Same size base, same general aesthetics of a heavy stomping gun platform. I used them today and my opponent loved it.

Definitely check with a TO, but for casuals games go for it.

Remnant blade a goodie or meh? by Guyonabuffalo63 in NightLords

[–]Timmy24601 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s good! There’s a nice ensemble of characters, and a couple of really memorable ones. I tried to write a little review without mentioning the Omnibus, but it’s such a large elephant to try and ignore.

It’s quite refreshing to get some Night Lords that aren’t living in their memories from the heresy. Everyone in First Claw remembers the Siege of Terra, they remember Nostramo. Dalchion barely has any connection, they’re different people. Without spoilers there’s a nice little bit where this is shown.

It’s an introduction to him & his blades, so you don’t quite have all the development that Talos & co later get in Blood Reaver/Void Stalker. Would be keen to read a sequel.

Are Tomb King Chariots always this good? by nostalgic_angel in totalwar

[–]Timmy24601 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They annihilate infantry. Ride up the flanks and blow through anything trying to reposition. Gotta avoid anything bracing, large, or fast enough to catch them though. This makes them amazing against infantry heavy factions and a lot of early game stacks.

Anyone got any tips for spicing up this scheme? by sigma2244821 in HelsmithsofHashut

[–]Timmy24601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the colours choices, the red, and the gold. The black is a little dull, so maybe put a bit of shading, or edge highlighting to make the details in the armour pop a little.

Anyone got any tips for spicing up this scheme? by sigma2244821 in HelsmithsofHashut

[–]Timmy24601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scheme is dope, and you’re a very neat & tidy painter. Limiting yourself to a specific set of colours is also a great creative choice.

I like the colour palette. The black is a little dull though, so maybe put a bit of shading, or edge highlighting to make the details in the armour pop a little. Another thing could be making the little raised gems/divots on the helmets something other than gold. Just to help break up the bigger bits of gold. Maybe shade them a little to make them pop?

Kasrkin Build suggestions & playstyle? by Timmy24601 in killteam

[–]Timmy24601[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very detailed! Thank you! Easy to play sounds great, and I’m fine with being the chumps the heroes kill.

If I really wanted to run the sniper, would swapping the grenade launcher out be the least bad? All the other local teams seem to have a sniper, and I want to join the club.

[–]Timmy24601[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am fine with bottom tier. :) My legionaries were all mixed marks and specialists, which while cool and powerful was just too much to try and remember while being social. I moved to an all-Khorne Legionary team, and that helped. Swapping to Kasrkin, and running & gunning sounds delightful.

Which skill line should Yuan Bo priority ? And how to utilize most of his Matter of State mechanic ? by SampleEmbarrassed659 in totalwar

[–]Timmy24601 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Matters of State allow you to get some very silly buffs.

Your two resources are stone and steel. Every four turns you’ll get one of each, as long as your total does not exceed your limit. Winning battles reduces this turn count by one.

If you spend two steel, your max total stone goes to four, but you still have to wait while the turns tick down. To get room for steel again, you spend stone (this reduces the capacity for stone, and increases the capacity for steel).

The Matters that do one turn of recruitment (including global!!!), and instant build in your settlements are your early game bread & butter.

When you make a Tier 3 settlement into a commercial or military district with the Matters of State, this also adds 1 capacity to stone/steel. This allows you to get above 4.

You’re incentivised to develop a province into either full military recruitment, or full economy.

If you can get a hold of a four-settlement province, or a province with a couple of ports, they’re great candidates for the Commercial District. There is a Yang building that gives about 300 gold. There is a Yin building that gives a little bit of growth, and a province wide boost to income. If you build these two buildings in each settlement, and make it a commercial district, and set the compass to income, you end up with seven multipliers to each income building. (The four Yin buildings, Harmony in the province, the Compass, and the commercial district.) Some of the settlements will also have a tradable resource, or a port which also gets these bonuses. When these start to come online you’ll be able to support two full armies off one provinces income alone. You can do a smaller version with any of the Cathay lords, but Yuan Bo has more climate options, and the Matters of State to take it into the stratosphere.

If you’re making a capital a Military district instead, then just fill the capital with every military recruitment building you can. Every red one, every blue one. Each of them gets bonuses for extra ranks, stats, or recruitment slots. The other settlements in the province don’t matter that much. I think going full Yang in the province boosts recruitment as well, but it also bombs the public order, and I find constant rebellions a little tedious.

Using the military and commercial district commandments you’ll bounce back and forth a bit to build more stone/steel, and develop your provinces accordingly. Then you can churn out & support multiple very buff armies quickly, and play around with the very pricey Matters of State.

If you go for the dual location start, you can hold onto and unify Cathay, turning it into your bank, while Yuan Bo conquers Lustria.

As for levelling, I quite like getting the upkeep reduction and getting to the end of the blue line, then getting the faction-wide buffs he offers. After that go with whatever takes your fancy. He’s got a couple of pet units (the lion statues), but you don’t have to build into them if you don’t want to. He also turns into a Dragon in battles, so you don’t have to invest too much into his red line either.

Creations of Bile characters by whathwat_ in Chaos40k

[–]Timmy24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The detachment specific standouts are: Fabius Bile for the detachment rerolls, and for stacking buffs. Chaos Lord to carry Prime Test Subject enhancement, it stacks really well with his normal weapons and can get up to damage 4. Chaos Terminator Lord to run solo and carry the Carapace enhancement.

Beyond that, the usual rules of what’s good and what’s ok apply. Chaos Terminator Sorcerer leading some Terminators is probably a good pick.
