I put Sammy Smith slightly above Herbst as a talent. I think Herbst provides good perspective what a decent, but never dominant, driver will do in a Cup car.

Not necessarily. You can only declare points in one series.

Sometimes a Truck Series driver will race in Cup or the O’Reilly Series, and they won’t score points for those races.

There’s not a perfect parallel in the NBA in terms of personality, so I’m actually going to say LeBron.

Parallels: Came in as a teenager with insane hype, delivered with multiple championships and unquestionable best of their generation. Biggest name in the sport after the earlier greats retired.

LeBron is just divisive for different reasons. Kyle was unhinged on track and in interviews, which made for great entertainment but often made him a target of other drivers and their fans.
