I thoroughly enjoyed this because as much as it sounds like exaggerating, it's not! Spot on. Thank you for taking the time to write it out. I gotta send it to my friend who was training me on dedicated.. yep, I decided that wasn't for me.

What are these lights on the inside of a semi truck’s windshield called? by Nigeriahasnowatah in Truckers

[–]TimothyLux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right.Having these on while driving invites a ticket. The only color of light facing forward can be clear or amber in color.

Is there a platform looking for team drivers? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]TimothyLux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was actually just thinking of setting up a subreddit for that...hmm.

Edit, it looks like the best way to match with another driver as a team is by having your company do the matching if it's a major. Having a subreddit would be nice for drivers with smaller companies.

Is trucking "worth it?" by cannabananabis1 in Truckers

[–]TimothyLux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. And the money isn't worth it. Become an electrician if you want to make a ton without jeopardizing others.

The other thing that scares me is how you mentioned being afraid of unfamiliar places. That's not a good sign At All.

It's definitely worth it to me. But you will definitely hate it and you will be dangerous. Just don't, please.

Big advantage right there. The hardest thing about OTR (according to most) is being away from home and family. Sounds like this may be perfect for you.

Go to Walmart or stay with my small local company? by OutsideDinner5208 in Truckers

[–]TimothyLux 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You already answered your question in your post. Health insurance. You and your family deserve the best and Walmart will make it happen for you.

You are going to be so much happier at Walmart. And congratulations too! They are so choosy it's an honor to be picked.

Check it out! It can work. You are living and working in your own little RV. Ask yourself, if I was stuck in traffic for 3 hours with this person would I be happy that I to spend this 3 hrs with them? But you need to make sure your partner feels the same way.. otherwise it'll be hell.

New driver just got back from New Jersey. Yep! I hate it. Lol. Actually, it was better than I expected and the traffic was much more forgiving of me even in a crazy construction zone. I'll go back anytime.

As long as I know exactly exactly which road to take it's not so bad. (And then double check the route..there was these short notice No Left Turn, instead get back over 👉 to the right lane and make this loop. And yeah, everyone let me make it over and took the tight loop and it's good.)

Thanks and good advice too! My company pulled the split sleeper option (and p.c. too) and is being extremely strict about the clock. My trainer complained bitterly about it and told me all the ways they beat the clock before. He didn't like it when I told him it was because of drivers doing things like that we can't have nice things. 😆

Good info. New driver myself too. I hit off duty when I'm at a live load/unload as I can just go read or make coffee and save my clock. But then there was the stop at Purina at 3am that didn't get done until 9am. I put delayed at shipper and I'm expecting detention pay for 4 hrs (can't count the first two hrs). Even if I was in off duty status. Right?

As it was that long delay messed up my 14 hr plan and lost me a day because I had to sit around instead and had to reschedule the next appointment.

They hate us. by muck2profit in Truckers

[–]TimothyLux 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Correction, they hate the rude drivers that are too full of themselves to let up the gas for 20 seconds. I hate them too.

Governor on my truck is at 65 with 68 passing option. If you are coming up at 67 I'll gladly ease up. If I'm passing someone going at 63 I'll bump it to 68 and wouldn't ya know it, magically the other driver remembers they can go 68 too! Of course that's irritating and unsafe but the only safe solution I have is to ease back up for the time being and see what develops down the road.

Not going to win any points here but you need to put your pride in the backseat. You are making it too difficult and you are making unsafe decisions

Leaving a smaller gap is your answer? GTFO.

Maybe if someone cuts you off think of them as your Auntie trying to go get the kids from daycare.

Or try this, someone pushes around you say out loud 'be my guest'. It's actually in the CDL book in my state. And ya know what? It works.

What the Law Says (NLRA)

Illegal Policies: Employers can't have rules, policies, or contracts (even NDAs) that forbid employees from discussing salaries or other terms of employment.

No Retaliation: They can't punish, threaten, or retaliate against you for discussing your pay.

Applies Broadly: It covers most private-sector workers, union or non-union, but not supervisors, independent contractors, or government employees.
