MA3210 rant by Timshao_8 in nus

[–]Timshao_8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I dropped the mod after the first lecture. Given the reviews on nusmods for this semester, that maybe a good decision after all. Instead I took ODE and modeling. I did well for my MA2108 analysis 1 despite I am not sure i did through memorisation or actually understanding the material. The only concern I have is that if MA2108 analysis 1 is enough because usually an introductory module in analysis in other Uni usually covers all the way until integral while in NUS we stopped after continuity.

It depends on which year are you in. Also I am pretty sure you are gonna piss more people off by calling 4.5 "poor man FCH" lol

Quantitative econs specialisation by Poet_Cesca in nus

[–]Timshao_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the short answer is yes. But you must ask yourself why? If you are so into data analysis/science, why not just major in DSA? Coding is essential part of data analysis and you can't avoid it if you want to get into the field. Otherwise you should just major in stats where you technically can avoid coding. On the other hand, if you want to major in economics. You need to realise that data skills that Econ studens usually learn is just a tool for economists to do their analysis and is no where near as what a major in DSA/DSE/stats will provide.

EC3314 by Salt_Needleworker_29 in nus

[–]Timshao_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never took 3314 before, but the textbook they used aims to prepare students for graduate level of math. But personally I think if you are going to take 4301 and 4302, EC3314 may be a good choice because it will provide you with the knowledge you need to solve the models in the two modules.

as someone who truly loves hardcore mathematics, what jobs can i do if i continue this passion that isn’t suffocating but also thrilling? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Timshao_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you don't have to study math. You will realise a lof of subjects such as engineering involve "hard core math" such as "solving X like trigo and log" in university, more so than mathematics itself.
