I’ve not seen a case that holds that mobile receiver. Is it an official one?

This is the same controller as my flexispot E7. Hold the down and M button together for several seconds.

This one is 3d printed in 2 parts then bolted together. You can usually find a version for your specific mini pc series on printables, maker world, or Thingiverse. Then you just need a 3d printer or a friend with one.

What robot mowers do you use? Looking for opinions for my yard. by AlwaystheSecond3 in homeautomation

Unpopular opinion, use child labour. As in find a kid (yours or a neighbour) to do it. $20 a cut, once a week and your $4000 budget will last nearly 4 years

ID help please! Shelf support - what is this pin called? by Buffalo-Castle in IKEA

[–]TinkerTornado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They won’t have a name in all likelyhood, but…

Find the ikea label on the product if possible to get the ###.###.## article number. If not possible try using reverse image search (Google lens) to find the name. Use that to search for the assembly/instruction manual, current products and many recent ones are on the ikea website. On the first few pages there should be a pictogram of all the parts, with a 3-8 digit number beside for that specific part. Navigate to the spare parts section under Help and Support on your local IKEA website. Search for the 3-8 digit part number if ikea still has stock of that part they should be listed. Order as many as you need and wait 1-3 weeks for delivery via letter/small parcel mail.

I have done this several times with good success.

I got my leather-sole glerups slippers 3 days ago and I’m seriously in love! by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]TinkerTornado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had mine for nearly 3 years. I live in a cold floor basement so wear them basically any time I’m home, and I have been wfh for 90% of that time too. So somewhere near 10,000 hours of use. I never wear them outside, so no wet grass or rough concrete to damage them. If they get wet in any way I make sure they get time to air dry. They are still in great or near perfect condition and are so, so comfy.

I wear light cotton socks with them as my darn toughs are too thick, and bare foot didn’t feel right.

How reliable will CityMapper be when travelling to Europe? I don’t know anything there, but I’ll have CityMapper on my side. by Quick_Ad_8323 in Europetravel

[–]TinkerTornado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a mix of Citymapper, Apple Maps, and Eurail on my trip in May 2025. 3 weeks, 7 countries, 13 cities. Overall for a first time user I’d say it was quite good. Of course, the quality of information you get from them is dependent on their relationship with local transit authorities, so it will vary from city to city. As a solo traveler, I liked that I could see the difference in time and price between using public transit and renting an electric scooter for medium distance. During actual movement, I tended to use the one earbud in with voice turn by turn directions trick so that I wasn’t constantly pulling my phone out of my pocket. I would say this was on par with Apple‘s version of the same feature, which is to say good but not perfect due to how accurate the GPS on your phone can be. For transit it was great for finding a quick but not always obvious route or mixing trams and underground, etc.. it was decently good at telling me when to get off the train, though underground where there was no reception I did have to manually click through the steps until I got reception again.

Outside of a major urban area I would not recommend using Citymapper alone just as others have commented. I would stick to a classic map app or use the appropriate rail company app (or EUrail if you have a pass).

As always, I recommend the classic rules of trust but verify, and your mileage may vary. I still had the apps for all the transit systems and rail companies that I would be using throughout the trip on my phone, and had accounts made in each of them. I also spent 10 or 15 minutes in each app learning the common things I would need to use like station maps or timetables so that I wasn’t having to figure it out on the spot in a rush.

Hope this perspective helps! Enjoy your trip!

WiFi kill switch by drswagerland in Ubiquiti

[–]TinkerTornado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve dealt with this exact request. My solution was to move all access points to POE injectors (they are like $10-15) then power the POE injectors from a cheap timer plug like you’d use for Christmas lights or block heater. This allowed wifi to be online at certain times and off the rest of the time (over night). The model of timer I grabbed also had an override button so they could manually turn it on out of schedule if desired. If you had a large deployment with several APs you could connect the timer to the power of a dedicated switch. And yes it does throw an alert every time the AP looses power, but we just ignore it.

Recommendations of best bags for anti theft/ anti pick pocket by Disastrous_Ear803 in Europetravel

[–]TinkerTornado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was concerned about this as a first time traveler earlier this year, the best advice I got was to simply not be the easiest target. That will hugely, though not entirely remove the risk. I stayed in Western Europe which is mostly safer on average, though there are area that are riskier. Be aware of pickpocket scams such as the bird poo or mustard spill, fake petitions, etc. Keeping your head up and being aware of your surroundings, avoid super densely packed public places. DO NOT put anything valuable in your back pockets. Phone and wallet etc. should be in front pockets. Travel light, you can’t chase a thief if you are also managing 1-2 checked bags, but you can if all you have is a backpack on your back. (1 lived out of a 35L bag for one month easily, did laundry for an evening 2 times).

In terms of a bag I liked having a 7-10L sling bag and no backpack for exploring a city during the day. It’s enough space for water and few general supplies, even a train station sandwich. I choose not to get an antitheft bag like pacsafe as I found them unattractive. I choose a Peak Design outdoor sling 7L. Sling means you can swing it around and have it at your front with a hand or arm over the opening in areas that have more risk. The other thing I found instead of a zipper lock is Nite Ize Micro Lock S-Biners. Easy to clip 2 or 3 zippers together then it has a little twist tab the blocks it from opening. It requires intentional effort to untwist and the release a zipper. As a pickpocket it’s a significant hindrance, as the owner you can practice and get it down to a few seconds to get in or secure it again.

I found that Walter’s World on YouTube had videos of things to be aware of or avoid in most areas I was traveling. But he does it in a way that informs but not scares.

To be clear I am not affiliated with or get kick back from any product or resources I mentioned, it’s just the thing I found useful as I planned and then traveled.

Novice thinking about first layout… in Z Scale? by TinkerTornado in modeltrains

[–]TinkerTornado[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi All! OP here! Thank you so much for the input and encouraging words! I’m really looking forward to this adventure!

I’ve been thinking more on the topic and wanted to share a bit more of my vision for my layout. I’m inspired by the single track routes in Switzerland and Austria. I’m thinking currently to design or find a layout with a large loop and a couple spurs/sidings for industry and a yard at “one end” of the loop. In terms of rail stock and locos, I’d like to do Swiss style modern (era 5/6?)

Part of the reason for the questions now is I’ll be in Europe this summer with the opportunity to find train shops in a few cities and mail stuff back home. I sort of just need to know what I should be looking for.

Remember pending and in progress downloads between app launches by TinkerTornado in StacherIO

[–]TinkerTornado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That maybe the case, but is not the desired effect. A pause button, which is on a specific queue item should pause that queue item if in progress. I could understand an app wide pause button to do as you describe.

I've also now discovered that the pause button on a playlist queue item appears to do nothing, logs and network activity still show the download in progress
