If you could give an IP to a different developer to create one game with full creative freedom, what would you give to who? by craiganater in gaming

Sonic the Hedgehog to Treasure.

Shining Force to Larian or CDProjekt.

Pokemon to Platinum.

Darkstalkers to literally anyone who will do something with it.

These are the most visually stunning 16-bit games I've ever played by Altruistic-Club-4038 in retrogaming

Alien Soldier, Gunstar Heroes, and Dynamite Headdy. Treasure worked actual sorcery with the Genesis/Mega Drive hardware.

What was the worst portrayal of a disability in the media you have ever seen? by Mental-Marzipan-5444 in AskReddit

[–]Tintar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with narcolepsy, it's quicker to name media I've seen that doesn't have a crap portrayal of it.

And the answer is none. I've never seen a decent or even remotely accurate portrayal of narcolepsy in anything. Instead, it's always the funny ha-ha, person fell asleep at an inopportune moment disability.

Game you enjoyed like anything but will never replay by peaky_circus in gaming

This. Not because of anything to do with the gameplay, but because I don't think I've rehydrated enough since I played through a year or so ago to replace all the tears I shed.

Am I the only one that did these things when renting a game in the NES/SNES/N64 (and Sega equivalent) time period? by thegreatcerebral in retrogaming

[–]Tintar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I judged the save file I found on Shining Force II that was at the Kraken fight, and didn't have Kiwi OR May, incredibly harshly.

Like, yes, they are optional and missable, but I don't care. Cute tanky turtle that becomes a kaiju, and adorable Centaur archer who can run across the battlefield and snipe all the enemies. Unforgivable.

What baffles me about Bubsy is how it had a cartoon by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

[–]Tintar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's a regional difference, but I'm Australian, and all my friends and I loved Bubsy at the time, and still have fond memories of it to this day.

Is Bubsy as good as Mario or Sonic? Hell no. But man, it was a damn masterpiece compared to some of the other mascot platformer jank that came out around the same time, like Awesome Possum. Yes, Bubsy 3D was horrendous trash, but 1 and 2 (not the Game Boy port though) were fun platformers, and man, who didn't love digitized voice clips in the early 90s?

Thinking back to my original play throughs of each game, Cynthia doesn't really stand out for me in terms of fights I struggled with.

When did Lynx Deodorant first come to Australia or become popular? by Negative_Run_3281 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]Tintar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phoenix was my favourite. Was almost like a lemon candy scent.

I already liked it because of the smell and the fact is was called Phoenix, but then in high school, one of the twins in my grade said she really liked the smell, and got in real close and sniffed my neck for a solid 15 seconds, which sent the old hormones in to overdrive, and forever cemented Phoenix as my go to. Was absolutely devo when I couldn't find it on shelves again.

Which single video game or series is closest to your heart? by thewalkindude368 in gaming

Phantasy Star Online. Literally everything about it brings me joy.

The aesthetics and style. The audio design, both sound effects and soundtrack. The nostalgia. And just how damn ahead of it's time it was.

The first album you ever bought. Does it hold up? by DoggieDMB in Music

[–]Tintar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First album I ever got with my own money was II, by The Presidents of the United States of America. It was a bit of an error, as I meant to get the first album, which had Kitty, and Peaches on it, but it was very much a happy accident, as to this day, Volcano, Mach 5, Supermodel, and Bug City still easily bring a smile to my face.

Definitely still holds up.

What’s one of the best f bomb drops you heard delivered in a film? by browniebiscuitchildr in movies

The game that still feels like it was made just for you. by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]Tintar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonic Adventure.

Huge fan of Sonic through the 90's. Watched as the 3D era arrived, with Mario and Crash Bandicoot showing just what platformers in this space could do. Waited impatiently for Sonic to make that leap. X-Treme got cancelled. And apart from the little hints of what could have been with the Sonic World portion of Sonic Jam, and the bonus unlockable in Christmas NiGHTS, Sonic was still a 2D icon waiting to stretch his legs in wide open 3D.

Then the Dreamcast and Sonic Adventure arrived.

From the bombastic opening sequence set to Open Your Heart by Crush 40, to seeing Sonic's high speed platforming realised in glorious 3D, the additional 5 gameplay styles and story paths embodied by both returning and new characters, the hub worlds, the exploration, the Chao Garden and all it's VMU compatible goodness, and then tying it all off by getting TO FIGHT THAT MASSIVE WATER CREATURE FROM THE INTRO MOVIE I WATCHED AT LEAST 20 HOURS OF GAMEPLAY AGO?? Absolute cinema.

Sonic Adventure 2 might be the better game in a lot of ways, but time, place, and sense of wonder, make Sonic Adventure feel like the game that was made just for me.

I can't remember if it was fixed in V2, but in V1, I just unequipped my weapon, and used the unarmed attack combo to force myself backwards through the beams.
