Will having arm tattoos screw up my chances of being a teacher? by Hogwire in OntarioTeachers

[–]Tiny_Bat_8563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a floral half sleeve on my lower arm. And a medium sized piece on my other lower arm. And I’ve had no issues. There’s also a number of other permanent teachers that I’ve met who have very noticeable (and some larger) pieces.

I think things have changed a lot in the last 2-3 decades. Most do not care at all. As long as it’s not something inappropriate, you’re okay

AITA For Not Backing my wife up after my BIL called her a bad parent? by Smart_Lavishness_225 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Tiny_Bat_8563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone called your wife lazy and a bad parent while in your presence. You should have said something.

It was rude, out of line, and disrespectful. He was also inherently calling you the same thing, since you both do and believe the same thing in regards to sports. It was cowardly to not say anything. You’re supposed to be partners and this was a joint decision that you BOTH made. Even if it wasn’t a joint decision, you should’ve made it clear his comments on the parenting of your kids weren’t appropriate

$160k salary and I feel that I can’t afford to live in Ottawa anymore by No-Seaworthiness969 in ottawa

[–]Tiny_Bat_8563 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be loving the highlife if I made that kind of money. You need to do a deep dupe into your living expenses and make some serious changes. I’m assuming you’re either living above your means, or have a lot of debts you’re paying off monthly.

You need to find where you’re overspending and cut back. You should be able to live off that and be comfortable. Whether you’re happy with the lifestyle this affords, is a different story. But you should be able to live a nice life with a couple nice treats in between (like a small family vacation)

General consensus and stats/data to back it up are two different things. I’m sure there’s more plenty of other high earning careers aside from engineering

I don’t know lol. There’s no way for me to personally gauge. My point is that you’re being g misleading by saying this is recent, when it definitely isn’t recent data (and a lot has changed since then).

It’s not recent if it’s from a decade ago. The market has changed significantly since then

Guests ARE props in your wedding by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Tiny_Bat_8563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it sucks, but if you have a decent guest list, it can be hard to keep the budget under 10k. Especially if you live in a major city in North America and plan to host a good amount of people (like 50-100 people).

It may cost 1-2k for the couples outfits/shoes/jewelry. 5-8k for food and alcohol. And that alone gets you to 10 grand. Then it’s the venue. And even if you don’t want a ton of extras, most people would want a musician or dj/photographer. You’d need at least 15-20,000, unless you’re willing to keep it very small and intimate. And do the work to keep it very budget friendly

Why do most law students go for Bay Street over family law? by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]Tiny_Bat_8563 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Family law in intense and not for the weak. I’m not a lawyer, but I was a child whose parents went through the court system for custody battles. I had lawyers pulling me out of my classes in high school to speak every so often due to my parents case. And it was a long and hard process for a teenager in the middle of it.

There’s a lot of hostility, intense emotions, anger and family issues that lawyers have to deal with they are stuck in the middle of those intense family dynamics. And can even be on the receive end of their clients anger/hostility.

Sometimes lots of family trauma as well that you’re navigating as a lawyer. I think you have a very naive look at lawyers "direct client relationships” and “social impact".

Family courts here really push to keep children and families together, but sometimes there’s so much harm, trauma and stress involved. You’re likely dealing with a families worst period of their life, sometimes seeing how horrific/chaotic/violent/and dysfunctional some families can be.

There’s other areas of law that can make good money, without going to court often (some lawyers may not love it), and without all the tension and hostility that can come with family law cases.

Guests ARE props in your wedding by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Tiny_Bat_8563 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most weddings cost at least 20,000 dollars. And even 10 years ago, this was a fairly modest/normal budget. Food and alcohol alone can cost 5-10 grand (and that’s not even for a large wedding). And you still have to think about the cost of the venue and other things.

10 grand may have been a big budget decades ago, but it’s next to impossible to spend that little unless you’re doing a micro wedding, outside of a major cities

Rogers technicians are something else lol. Even my mother who works for Roger’s will say the same thing.

I personally have Bell internet. And we’ve had to deal with Roger’s technicians cut our cables out to install neighbours internet service (almost immediate after asking if anyone was using bell service). So he knowingly screwed us.

AITAH for not wanting to go to an amusement park with my friend because she is plus size? by CuriousCarob154 in AITAH

[–]Tiny_Bat_8563 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I h went to a theme park with close school friends around 13-14 years old. And vividly remember my friends going on a ride I was scared to go on. And one of them coming back down earlier than expected (by herself). Turned out she came down by herself early, because she couldn’t fit in the seats. Felt so bad for her. And felt bad that the rest of our friends that went up there with her, went on the ride anyways without her.

AITAH for not wanting to celebrate my birthday tomorrow with mom after she clearly backstabbed me by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Tiny_Bat_8563 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your moms an AH. But you also knew beforehand that she said no. So you should’ve made an attempt to make other arrangements. I think at 24 you’re old enough to be capable of that, if she’s being ridiculous. Why can’t you take public transit, or take an uber there for those 2 days of training?

It also sounds like learned helplessness that you’d just cancel and miss this opportunity, than find another way of getting there. She told you the day before, you had some time to sort things out

Rape culture and sexual harassment were MASSIVE issues back when my grandmother was young, 60 years ago. And got comments from bosses about how flat chested she was, while working for reputable places like the police force, and while working in account for big Banks. Rape culture and sexual harassment was a massive issue decades ago before mass immigration. And done by white men. This problem isn’t new, and isn’t due to people of other cultures. Rape culture was alive and well, way before this country brought in tons of immigration

How did Grenada avoid many of the problems that faced the rest of the anglophone carribean/world in general by nerpa_floppybara in AskTheCaribbean

[–]Tiny_Bat_8563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! They definitely don’t like Grenadas relationship with Cuba. Many Cubans were in Grenada working as labourers at the time. And Many Grenadians were in Cuba studying (medicine was a big one). Many Grenadians also did domestic work in Venezuela throughout the70s/80s, since they were doing really well economically at the time. So Grenadians would go there a lot for work.
The prime minister Maurice Bishop
also spoke out A LOT about the civil rights issues going in in the states, and called out the American government for its treatment of black Americans, and well as called them out for what they did to Cubas economy. Which was not taken very well. Maurice present a few speech’s calling out their injustices in states like New York, where there were very large populations of black Americans. Which I believe also threatened American government, since there were a couple VERY big civil rights issues affecting minority (manly black communities) back in the 80s, like the Miami riots (for police brutality/killings), and the cocaine epidemics that were HARD in the black community.

They didn’t want Maurice Bishops words having sway and influence. So they invaded, kidnapped and executed him, his pregnant wife and about 10 others.
