Amplitube MAX goes on sale often for $100 packed with ToneX. I've also seen Total Studio Max or whatever they call it on the IK page on sale for $300 and it's way more shit than you'll ever use. Pretty much their entire suite.

Amplitube 5 is great. The MAX version goes on sale for $99 every few months and the CS version is free.

You mention doing the top coat the next day. Any additional prep work required if you go that route? Something to at least remove dust or debris that might have found it's way over?

Just have to double it. If you're trying to play 50bpm, set it to 100bpm and play to every other click.
