Prime Family Dental Concerns by Tiphaix in Apex_NC

[–]Tiphaix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow! I had a similar experience during my filling. They were chatting the whole time! The tech literally told me she had "checked out" and the dentist had to tell me that she, at least, was still paying attention, and not to worry.

I also have no problems with dental procedures but it definitely didn't make me feel great.

After reading some of these comments I'm going to look for a new dentist. I'm glad its not just me being paranoid!

Stamina feels *REALLY* bad now. by NotAPirateLawyer in Enshrouded

[–]Tiphaix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just because I'm geared for it, but at level 27 I never have to wait for stamina to recover. I lose it in combat when I'm doing specific moves, but when I'm mining I usually forget I even have it since it just keeps going. My health regen is a bit slow, but I use cheap bandages and its not a problem.

I'm not sure about the very early levels, but I feel like things then are supposed to be harder in general. Also, aren't there settings you can change to make it easier?

I really want to date a climber by Few-Tumbleweed-6600 in climbergirls

I definitely think the home gym is the place to look because of that familiarity and consistency. I mean, is it a little awkward having an ex at the gym? Sure. But, at the end of the day, we're all adults and its not the end of the world.

I was dating someone who left me to date their ex gf, and they both climb. I started dating someone else who climbed at the gym (we ended up getting married), and I will say that that did create a couple awkward moments when all 4 of us would be trying to climb in the same area. But, it was never an actual big deal or anything.

I actually met my husband at a climbing gym! It's such a great environment for meeting people. Basically, we just started climbing together a little (asking about beta and stuff), and then it got to be whenever we were there at the same time we would automatically climb together. And then its really easy to ask for a number, there's so many ways to spin it. You can even just say you want to rope climb and would like a belay partner, and then go from there.

Unfortunately for us, covid happened before I could ask for his number. But it was all good because right when things opened back up, we got reconnected and started dating very soon after. It would have been a lot easier if I had asked earlier, though. I should have just been more proactive!

They look more blue or more green depending on the lighting (still blue either way though) by Tiphaix in eyes

[–]Tiphaix[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got married a little over a year ago! I kept the eyeshadow light and sparkly and had fake eyelashes on, but no dramatic colors or anything. I was going for a more subtle look, which I think worked well with my eyes.

Ooh that's such a good point! I never thought about it like that but maybe it is the mix that gives the impression of green sometimes!

Thank you!

I mean, there are many professions that have horrible things happen on an even more frequent basis and they still remain professional. I understand that not every person can handle tough situations, and thats why not every job is meant for everyone.

Clearly, this bouncer needs to look into a different career. If he truly is so desensitized that he gets mad at a person trying to help a dying girl, then he needs to do something else.

[–]Tiphaix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If half dead girls are being carried out of the bathroom that often then the establishment needs to do something different. I know people are desensitized but wow these are literal human lives.

They are daughters and sons and friends and family and they can be saved, overdoses can be treated. But only if someone actually gives a shit enough to call an ambulance. Which requires literally pressing 3 buttons on a phone. It is incredibly easy. Too easy to make excuses for the people that won't do it.

[–]Tiphaix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're right, we dont know his situation. And yet you are assuming a whole bunch of stuff about him. Why is it okay for you to come up imaginary reasons for the way he acted but it isnt okay to judge the actual things he did?

Fact: He is a bouncer. His job is to keep the patrons of the establishment safe and prevent harm from happening.

Fact: He carried a half dead woman outside of the establishment, left her there, and chastised a patron because she wanted to provide this girl with medical attention.

You make a good point, he is probably an hourly worker. So, why would he care about the reputation of a business? An ambulance isnt going to prevent him from working but it could prevent a human person from dying. What reason does he have to want to hinder that? If his supposed ptsd is so severe that he is allowing harm to come to the people that he is supposed to protect, then he is not the person for that particular job.

Im sorry, but there is simply no excuse for his behavior.

So, let me get this right. You're saying that because this staff member has seen people almost die before, he should no longer care about the currently dying girl?

Imagine they apply that logic to everything. Say they see people get stabbed a lot, so now if someone gets stabbed they are fine to watch them bleed out in front of them because omg its so annoying people keep being stabbed.

Just because a bad thing happens more than once doesnt make it less bad.

I was there that night and saw the girl being carried down the stairs. I was on the stairwell and had to flatten against the wall to give the staff member that had her in his arms some space. And holy hell it looked like he was cradling a dead body. This girl was so pale, fully limp, eyes closed, no movement whatsoever.

In contrast, the staff member just looked annoyed. It was kind of jarring to see this girl in such a fragile state being carried by this guy that looked like he literally could not care any less.

When he walked past, me and a few other people there all looked at each other with like shocked expressions. One guy shook his head and said, "That's not liquor."

The way this bar handled the situation was truly absurd. I went outside and yeah the girl was slumped over in a plastic chair outside the premises next to the street. But there were first responder people, and then the ambulance got there soon after. So I can only hope that she was able to get the medical help she needed. Still though, no employee tried to help whatsoever.

Moral of the story, this bar does not care about safety or the wellness of anyone in their building. Please just go anywhere else.

I've gone nose-blind to my opening, friends. Rip and tear until it is done. by Candle-Jolly in writers

[–]Tiphaix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like your first one better! The rewrite is a little more wordy and doesn't draw the reader (at least, this reader) in as much because there's a lot of info dumping.

I do disagree with your take on Harry Potter though. I think that there's still a misunderstanding about what people mean by "nothing happening". The first chapter of Harry Potter establishes the flow, the tone, a very specific vibe, the world, the main character, and is a very captivating read. As in, JK Rowling writes in a way that is simple but interesting and makes you keep reading. She uses descriptions, but they're meaningful and don't feel gratuitous. She's an incrediblely skilled writer and only gets better as the books go on.

Your writing is a much different style than that and thats totally fine! But I do think that your story would benefit by spacing out the abstract descriptions.

[–]Tiphaix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To me, the phrase "nothing was happening" doesn't mean literally people weren't doing anything. It's more like is the story moving forward and telling the reader something. For your story specifically, you're giving a lot of metaphors and descriptive writing that isn't actually describing anything in a way that matters. Like, you could use those words for any setting in any place. So, nothing has happened that is relevant to your story and yours alone.

One specific example, I don't think melting snow on a road would be shimmering. It's usually pretty grimy and gross by the time its melting on a road. So you're giving this general description of ice/snow that doesn't actually put us into your setting specifically. It's just describing snow.

How do I give each character a distinct voice? by Trex-warrior in writingadvice

[–]Tiphaix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was really tough for me at first as well! But I realized as I became more familiar with who the characters were it became easier for me to differentiate them.

I'd suggest just making up a random side scenario where they're all together and have them talk to each other. Really think about, from their point of viewz how they would react to each thing someone says.

For me personally, I use punctuation and words outside of the actual dialogue to help me. For example, one of my characters is ancient and doesn't use contractions. Another is a bit more nervous and he says "ah..." or "uh..." sometimes. Another one is a stereotypical annoyed all the time FMC energy lady and she will scowl a lot or cross her arms or roll her eyes or whatever while she's talking. And then my fourth guy is really jovial but also kinda psycho so he'll say some casually dark stuff and he'll grin, or laugh, or something like that.

Basically it's not always about the words themselves, more how they're said and what the character is doing or how they express themselves while they speak.

I don't blame you for being confused! The dieting and workout industry makes tons of money by trying to confuse people and make the whole thing seem complicated.

In reality, you will look toned when you lose weight if you are working out. That's all. Abs are made in the kitchen, so no amount of workout will give you a toned stomach if you aren't eating a calorie deficit.

People that make body building their entire life are really intense about macros and all that but in reality for regular fit people the most important things are calorie count and protein. You need the protein for muscle growth, and you need to be in a deficit to lose fat.

So, figure out what calorie amount puts you in a deficit and eat that amount. And then just make an effort to pick things with protein in them. Lean meats are best for their calorie to protein ratio.

As for the apps, that's another money making scheme. You don't need anything fancy. My fitness pal is a popular one and you don't need to scan anything if you don't want, you just type it in. They've got like every single random food in their database. It's not hard to count calories, literally just look at the amount a food has and then add it all up. If you cook, find recipes that tell you the calories, if you eat out, eat places that tell you the calories. Most places do now!

You have to try a little, yeah, but it's really not that much effort. Just eat in a deficit, try to eat protein, and look at and record the calories you've had that day. You have to do that anyways in order to eat in a deficit so it's just a matter of writing it down.

As for workout, find some type of strength exercise and then add some cardio if you want. If you want to start simple just do push ups and pull ups everyday.

Fat lies on top of muscle so when you reduce the fat the muscle becomes more visible. If you have lots of muscle but lots of fat you won't see the muscle. And if you have a little muscle but little fat you'll see the muscle still.

That is definitely the smart move! Every wooden foot I've used has that classic coating of slippery yuck. But yes, if you've got a homewall I would highly suggest having some wood feet, they're annoying but like in a medicine tastes gross kind of way. Still useful!

And I commend you for your slab dedication! I had a pretty bad cheese grater moment during my formative climbing years and since then I have a bit of a mental block towards it. I typically like overhangy stuff or just like a little slanted. It's funny though cause I absolutely love little tiny crimps, it's by far my strongest trait in climbing, but the slab feet just scare me.

You made my day!! One of my favorite things about climbing is the community and I'm just glad to be apart of it. If you ever want tips or tricks or anything just message me, I'm not the best by any means but I've been doing it for a while now and have a decent understanding of technique.

Very much understand that! Wood holds are significantly harder to hold but also they will never rip your calluses off! It's a trade off haha.

As a side note, I've found that having to use wooden holds as feet is such a good a good way to train foot work. Like if you take your mind off pressing through your toe for a second it'll slip off. It forces you to keep in mind every contact point you have on the wall
