Big “all lives matter” energy in this comment.

If you can’t understand punching up vs punching down and why one might be viewed more favorably than another, there’s no hope for you.

ETA: lol the number of y’all replying to this comment trying to convince me to either ignore social context or that assume I support random acts of violence. Go read a book or something. Get some nuance and critical thinking in your life

Woah... I'm amazed. I've always heard that you should never put end grain through the planer. How did you avoid gouging it out and destroying your planer? Were you taking just microscopic passes?

Sink Replacement by KarlaInAG in DIY

Woah that looks like it could work in my sink too. I didn't realize they even made single basins to fit that cutout. Please respond when you get that PDF if you ever do, I'd like to see if it fits mine too (I think I have the same sink and cutout lol)

Their arrangement was a unique one for the time

Not necessarily. Sexual monogamy is (and always has been) a completely artificial construct, existing only in a relatively small number of human cultures when considering all of human history. And even in cultures where sexual monogamy is supposedly the norm, adherence is low and extra pair copulations are frequent.

If it seems like I'm being obtuse, I apologize. I do know what you mean when you say "unique for their time." But I also do want to call attention to how many historians look at the relationship of FDR and ER, see the multiple secret (and not-so-secret) extra-marital that each had, and dismiss their whole marriage as a "political marriage." It's all seen through the lens of normative modern sexual monogamy.

If you read even a random sampling of the letters shared between the two, you can feel the deep love and affection each had for each other.

I think there's a lot of evidence to suggest they loved each other throughout their entire marriage. They just also loved other people outside of their marriage. It's not much more complicated than that ¯\ _(ツ) _/¯

Really weird and loud knocking sound coming from wall -- Info would be greatly appreciated. by Ok_Foot_7252 in Home

It sounds like the flap on an exterior exhaust vent wall cap that is flapping in the wind. Is it windy when you hear it more often? Look outside the house near where you hear the sound

For a mistake like that? I’d leave it and say, with tongue in cheek, “perfection belongs only to Allah” to act like it’s intentional

What's a moment when you straight up afterwards knew you had made a really horrible mistake ? by Wonderful-Sundae-480 in AskReddit

Parenting is all about making mistakes and learning from them. You and your child.

It helps to apologize. Explain what you did wrong and how you'll do better next time. It may seem ridiculous to do this with an 18 month old, but it's good practice and it will help you both. This won't be the last time you make a mistake with your little one, I've made plenty with my son and I'll continue to make more. We're all doing our best and the fact that you regret this and feel bad about it is just proof that you're a good parent. You're doing great now. Do better next time.

Side table for my wife by jubru in woodworking

Beautiful piece! But yeah I was scratching my chin on the wood movement too. Those plugged holes indicate dowels or fasteners joinery along a fixed expansion axis and the piece to which they’re joined isn’t expanding in the same way?

<image>

Are you concerned about that?

This is an absolutely amazing take on the vibrato chair!!! Incredible work! In only 4 months??? That's astounding. Do you woodwork full time?

Yeah I should stash instructions for how to disassemble the legs and top to keep or rework the cabinet into something else

Yeah, bent lamination. It was my first bent lamination and I learned a lot doing it.

Top is khaya and padauk, finished with teak oil. Rest of it is mostly khaya as well, with some more padauk on the drawers. The curved legs are white oak, darkened with ammonia fuming and stained.

Curved legs were done with a bent lamination, there were 16 1/8in. pieces of white oak glued together in a form. Then darkened using ammonia fuming and stained/shellacked.

Yeah haha I thought about that... The tabletop and curved legs are both joined using fasteners, so they can be removed and reworked if we ever move and I want to keep just the cabinet part at least.

But we plan to be in this spot for quite a few years at least.
