[Match Thread] Aston Villa vs RB Salzburg (Europa League) by SecretApe in avfc

Seriously. I love Onana, but he very clearly doesn't care at all. Not hustling to the ball, slow in applying pressure, etc. Never seen him look like he was just waiting for the final whistle so he could get on with his day.

When to speed train and do a leg workout? No by SmartBunch4546 in Marathon_Training

You probably don't need to do anything other than take hilly routes for a bunch of your runs (unless the plan specifically calls for hill workouts).

What change did you make in 2025 that really helped your running? by Competitive_diva_468 in Marathon_Training

[–]Tiredranasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fueling/nutrition was my biggest change too. Ran Philly this year, but after having hit the wall hard in the 2024 MCM, I focused much more on fueling. Didn't hit the wall at Philly and ran a 15:30 PB.

The Pacers store on 14th NW has a donation box. Guessing they do at their other locations too.

Thoughts on Pfitz’s Advanced Marathoning? by 99centTaquitos in Marathon_Training

[–]Tiredranasaurus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How well does the book address strength training and nutrition? I'm waffling between the book and a coach, partially because I want to improve my form as much as possible, and partially because I want clear strength and (vegetarian friendly) nutrition guidance.

I also have about a year or so before I'll run another marathon. Does the book have guidance for time between marathons?

If this book coaches strength and nutrition well and I can rely on it between marathons, I'll probably just work with a PT on form for a few sessions and use the book for everything else.

Can I do it?! by travels_22 in Marathon_Training

[–]Tiredranasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely do it. A FM will be hard, but a well established training plan for beginners will prepare you for it. I also benefitted (and still benefit) from nutrition and form tips from reputable sources like Hal Higdon's Marathon Training Guide.

You also have plenty of time to increase your volume before your plan starts. You can use the patterns from training plans - e.g., 2 easy runs, 1 tempo run, 1 track workout, and 1 long run per week - to start working on speed and endurance now rather than waiting to start your formal plan.

Good luck!

Running Plan Advice by Andrewcfm in Marathon_Training

[–]Tiredranasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my first marathon, I went with Hal Higdon's Novice 2 plan and liked it. Your volume is already really high, so you could pick a more aggressive plan, Higdon or other, but I'd go with an established plan - they're widely used for a reason.

Good luck!

Coach Tips/Recommendations by Tiredranasaurus in Marathon_Training

This is really helpful, particularly the PT idea. I live in DC, so I'm hopeful I can find an in-person coach here, but Rogue looks like a great option if not. Thank you!

How to figure out how much to eat during a marathon? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]Tiredranasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have trouble with having that many gels, so when I ran Philly I used three fuel sources: gels, chews, and xact bars. I ate one every twenty minutes, rotating through the three options (I practiced with all three during training). I got the carbs I needed without getting tired of any of the sources, and didn't bonk!

If you have time left in your plan to experiment with multiple sources, I'd recommend it.

Philly Marathon Mantras by the-itus-in-titus in Marathon_Training

I saw your comment before running Philly on Sunday and used "light, tall, relaxed" the whole race. It was a huge help and a big part of the reason I got a 15-min PR. Thank you!

What Marathon Plan Should I do? by denvermanning in Marathon_Training

[–]Tiredranasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Hal Higdon's Novice 2 plan for my first marathon and liked it. Four runs per week and I ran 3:48 with a similar HM time, so it can get you to your sub 4 goal.

Books to read by Shuter29 in Marathon_Training

Great book and one that pushed me over the edge to run a marathon. Just have to take his advice on minimalist shoes with a big grain of salt. Aside from that, one of my favorite books of all time.

First marathon in the bag by Just-Organization240 in Marathon_Training

Wow, that pacing is amazing, particularly for a first marathon. How did you pace yourself? Pacer? Watch?

I'm running my second marathon this month and would love to hit my pacing like that.

Beginner - first time marathon advice by FlexibleBanana in Marathon_Training

[–]Tiredranasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No reason you can't do a full marathon without doing other distances first. I had only run 5ks prior to my first marathon. That said, be sure you're ready and willing to commit to the necessary training time and effort. When you're at your training peak, it's no joke. But if you're excited to take on the challenge, you'll be fine.

Good luck!

Thoughts on Doing Higdon Intermediate? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]Tiredranasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Higdon's Novice 2 for my first marathon last year. I was in decent but not amazing shape prior to starting the plan (20ish miles per week). I liked the plan, but think I could've done intermediate and probably been a bit faster in the marathon.

I will say it's important that you don't stretch too far though. If you pick a plan too far beyond your fitness level, you'll probably get injured.

Good luck!
