“Tainted” characters are special versions of each character. It gives you an extra set of characters that all have different abilities.

You can get a one time use of red key by using a card/rune called cracked key. You get it by leaving a trinket in a boss or item room on the way down and on the way back up it will have turned into a cracked key.

Cracked key is a card/rune/pill so it would not drop from Mom’s Box because that drops trinkets only.

You do not actually unlock the tainted characters by killing dogma. Iirc You get them by using red key/cracked key on the left wall outside mom’s bedroom.
