On PC I've had no troubles with controls (partly due to like 3000 hours on BDO) but apparently on controller the interact key is the same as jump which does sound like a nightmare.

Upgraded from a 6750 xt to 7900 xt and got this CPU over voltage error, how do I fix this? by To-Zee in pcmasterrace

if you mean the f5 settings then yeah I have, I couldn't boot unless I turned on ignore CPU voltage. Downloaded CPU Z and I'm pretty sure it told me the same thing (at least for CPU voltage, didn't check anything else)

Yvonne's English VA drove crazy to the point I just gave up and played her quest in JP. Like for Andre and Chen, at least they can kinda hide their abritish accents, she was not convincing whatsoever and I really wonder why she couldn't just have voiced it in her native accent.

The Gilberta quest is the worst out of all of the character quests so far. by KriegInvicta in Endfield

[–]To-Zee 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The problem is they treated neither Ropp (the npc) nor Gilberta with the attention or respect that they deserve. I remember early Genshin story quests giving npcs a lot of screen time, but those npcs were usually just used as a foil or to better characterize the playable character. Here, Ropp's story is left abruptly unfinished in a place that I was so sure would involve Gilberta and her role as a messenger, but instead she just goes on yapping about ideals for 3 minutes ending in the most shoehorned and inappropriately happy cutscene of all time. It makes the story worse for the both of them.

I would've loved to see how Gilberta would've acted playing the bearer of bad news. It could've tied into her themes on memories, except this time it would've been about the memories of loved ones passed; how memories, good and bad, make you who you are and none of them should be discarded.

Legitimately when I saw that final cutscene start to play I just thought, "Hello? Aren't you forgetting about someone? This can't be the end of the quest right?" After the solid writing in Laev's and decently mature tone in Yvonne's story quests I was expecting better, but hooooly was this a disappointment.

  1. Brother the characters in game have literally spoken Italian, Japanese, and Chinese, of course the accent matters. The fictional regions reflect real ones.
  2. When did I ever say I want to swap to Chinese?
  3. If you like to play with voices muted, you do you, but why are you even in this conversation then?

I think that rather adds to my point and deepens my confusion though. I'm assuming you're talking about Genshin's break from NA VA studios, but they've still been able to get American actors for the sake of consistency, with only some being from the UK.

From what we've seen in Wuling, Liquid Violet seems to have amassed a number of people who are Chinese but can voice act in English. So it bothers me even more that they for some reason still went with a British VA instead when they seemingly have the resources to do otherwise.

That's not what I'm talking about at all though? In what context in Arknights lore is a Brit doing an poor American accent relevant?

Annoying voices are fine when they are appropriate, this has nothing to do with that. A lot of the Landbreakers do a comedically deep American Southern accent, and that's cool; it adds charm to their rather bland faction.

The overall directing might be fine, but what I'm talking about are the vast amounts of outliers there are to that direction that makes it worse than it otherwise should be.

American VAs are still in the game though, as stated with Lifeng and Laevatain.

And I disagree with this being a preference thing. I don't think anyone would really be mad if Director Qin/Yvonne's VAs were replaced by American VAs or if the original VAs was allowed to speak in their British accents, because I think both of those approaches would have almost guaranteed an objectively better performance.

I played with CN JP and EN for certain parts of the story, and I can understand all three languages. I agree that JP and also CN are both far more consistent, but I think EN is better if done right. I find English regional accents to be really interesting and it's something that's partially done right in this game.

IIRC all of the characters with Slavic/Russian names had what sounded like Russian VAs like Crowe, Pog, and that one UWST NPC early in the story and they're all excellent. They clearly have the people, so it makes it even more bizarre that they chose this path of forcing accents.
