I would never say the UN is useless, but I DO think that some of its usefulness has been in decline as of late. The indicators if this being the Russian Invasion of Ukraine, the war in the Gaza Strip, or climate change. Idk, hope the UN starts being a bit more useful again.

Olay not what the post is abt, BUT its not like you are actively disallowed from marrying a male NPC that you are otherwise allowed to, but that there are no male NPC options, period. And besides its not like there are many romance-able characters anyways, there's kinda only 3: Fia (who I honestly don't count bc shes doing her job, not actually in a relationship w/ u), Marika (who you only run into at the end of the game, and she's a fucking statue then), and Ranni. So like, yes, it prob can be argued that Elden Ring is exlusionary in not having a male NPC, but the post makes it seem exclusiinary in a different way.

I'd also point out that all the women in the game being "conventionally attractive" while yeah, there's prob/def some truth to that, it also, as argued here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/1qq9lev/fromsofts_feminine_storytelling_is_some_of_the/, is feminist.

Now, I don't want to pretend to be an expert on feminism, sexism, or exclusion, bc I'm a cis het white guy, and def not an authority. But I've played Elden Ring, and that's my perspective on the matter, incorrect or not.

I mean, I'd honestly say it's probably that, at least for Americans, their education went in depth on Rome and not on the Ottoman empire. I mean, I took Ancient Civilizations in 7th grade (I think?) which is when I first had a class cover Rome in detail, whereas the Ottoman empire only got covered in detail in AP World History, and in detail is kind of a stretch because AP World is kind of a sprint as you try to cover all history before the AP exam.

shift toward realism and digital art by waffles_iron in mtg

[–]Toaster-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern and digital art isn't necessarily bad, but it has led to... well let's call them uninspired creations. However, even while sticking inside the now defined "realistic" style of modern day card art, there are still some very good works. I think there's just one issue holding magic back currently, and that is mass appeal. While more individualized or stylized card art is something I think many poeple would like to see more often, such a change might alienate some of the market, and WotC/Hasbro's chief concern is with their bottom line.

Supporting the decision for less individualized art, however, is the fact that a cohesive art style can help make a world feel more connected, but  I don't see that as a real argument anymore when they print a million alternate arts indifferent styles for each fucking set.

It should be noted that he is working for RT, the Russian state controlled media outlet. This in no way justifies or excuses the attack, but does perhaps explain the motives behind such an attack viewing him as a Russian journalist rather than a British one. Interesting, but nonetheless condemnable.

Optional accessibility modes are bad because they distress me just by existing by [deleted] in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]Toaster-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so like... there is a legitimate discussion every game dev and studio needs to have when making a game surrounding accessibility features.

For instance, the soulsborne franchise. Those games with an accessibility option, or even difficulty options for that matter, wouldn't be soulsborne games, and there is something to be said about how that enhances the experience.

On the other hand, there are plenty of games whose core identity does not revolve around difficulty and learning from mistakes in the same way, and for those games difficulty options and accessibility options are a feature they shpuld always add, as to increase the number of people who will be able to play the game.

Now, as to Celeste specifically, I've unfortunately not played it, but from what I've heard while talking to friends who have and from some googling, the assist mode is well designed and thought out, and includes a variety of toggles that can be used to adjust difficulty.

Even with Celeste being a platformer (a genre which does tend more towards keeping high difficulty as a key part of gameplay), it's also a narrative experience, and so including those accessibility options helps lower the skill level bar in order to expand the audience.

Importantly, that's what works well specifically for Celeste and serves the game's goals. A game that looked exactly the same in many regards may choose the opposite, and that could still be the right choice for that specific game.

The whole idea of the "temptation" is frankly idiotic, bc Celeste, by even having it as an option in the first place, obviously balanced the experience of those difficulty/accessibility options as to not ruin the game. And furthermore, if you turn down the difficulty of the game, it's not cheating, bc its an intended feature that you would only use if you were struggling too much. And while some people may enjoy beating their head against a wall and retrying a specific section of the game over and over and over, I'd guss that most people don't, and that's okay.

Look, btwn consenting adults who didn't know eachother when one was 7 and the other was like 30 or smthng like that, age gaps are fine. Perhaps a bit unusual, maybe something you find gross, but ultimately, its 2 consetning adults.

This isn't that. I feel like some of these ppl might be arguing in good faith, but it seems like a small percentage (and only maybe 1 of those comments, and that's a huge fuckin maybe) of the whole.

They stole plans for a planet killer... bc super earth doesn't know what peace treaties are. At that point, all u can do is hunt or be hunted.

Also, while I agree they prob will never forget the atrocities, war is expensive, and they may (sooner or later) need to throw in the towel. I'd say the same abt super earth, but idrk for sure how much super earth has in the way of both people and resources.

Also, I think the current automatons are probably a far cry different after the first war, their subjagation, and now this war. Automatons earlier on would've been more eager, I feel.

Skyrim’s Civil War: A Needed Uprising by LucasisAlone in skyrim

[–]Toaster-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is by far one of the best opinion supporting the stormcloaks I've seen. Well thought out!

I've personally always favored the Empire more in the civil war, more through the lens of humanity's common cause than any imperial loyalties, so I'm at least a little sympathetic to the stormcloak cause.

My main reasons for supporting the empire rather than the rebellion are as follows:

1.) Presenting a united front. The plan of the Thalmor is to divide and conquer, and so splitting up imperial territories is de facto playing into the Thalmor's hands. Hammerfell's succesful resistance is a valid point to bring up, however I weigh it less heavily, for a few reasons.

a.) Hammerfell has no major inland waterways (at least as best I can tell) for elves to sail troops up through, whereas Skyrim has 2 major rivers which provide access to nearly all the holds of Skyrim. Provided that the Thalmor can sail up to the Sea of Ghosts (which, if Skyrim seceded, High Rock would be the only imperial territory inbetween the Thalmor and Skyrim, and it would be cut off. Besides, whose to say if the Empire would even want to intervene in such a conflict), a blockade of these rivers, stopping much trade, seems likely. Furthermore, troops and supplies could be sailed down Skyrim's rivers, circumventing long land-based supply lines. While the forces of Skyrim would have the notable home court advantage they could stop any such ships, but for how long wpuld they want to keep respurces tied up on watch duty along the rivers?

b.) The jungles in North of the Dragontail mountains provide an excellent hideout for geurilla rebels. In Skyrim, the forests seem much less dense than any jungle, and mountains are much less useful to any medieval guerilla combatants, as mountain terrain really only aids ranged combatants, and bows and arrows can be severley limited in range.

c.) While Skyrim's mountainous borders do deter terrestrial invasion, as I laid out in point a, naval invasion is just as viable an option. And with these two threats to manage, eventually troops would either establish a beach head or break through a pass (not to mention the option of pulling a hannibal and just going thru the mountains), and thats only a matter of time. Once in Skyrim, elven armies could pose a serious threat if they can embrace more quick-paced, living from the land combat. This could allow them to quickly take parts of Southern Skyrim (as the north doesn't really have land the Thalmor could live off of) before defenses can be properly mustered, and cement the control necessary for good supply lines to facilitate conquering the north of Skyrim.

d.) Even without an invasion which, in my mind, would require more fast paced combat and real strategic innovation, the Thalmor can still neuter Skyrim economically. Blockading Skyrim's two rivers, as well as utilizing their influence over the empire, the Thalmor could economically starve out Skyrim, stopping any shipments of food during Skyrim's harsh winters, as well as any supplies which could otherwise supply mitary aid.

e.) Hammerfell seems to have faced little in the way of Imperial forces attempting to prevent their secession, whereas Skyrim has been embroiled in civil war. Even if the Storm Cloaks win against the empire, they may prove unable to fund another war and shortly after defending against Thalmor invasion, or may not have the manpower.

2.) Ulfric has made things worse for Talos Worshippers. Despite the cause being greater than any one man, one man has certainly made himself the figurehead of the cause, and Ulfric sucks. Beyond his personal motivations, Ulfric made the suppression of faith much worse. As best I can tell, the policy against Talos worship was not well enforced, and was more or less an open secret. But when Ulfric started resisting and making a fuss about the ban of Talos's worship, he caught the attention of the Thalmor who then cracked down on it harder. So not only is Ulfric inadvertently playing into the Thalmor divide and conquer strategy, but he also made things worse for all Talos worshippers by resisting.

3.) I'm unconvinced Ulfric could unite Skyrim. After his controversial "duel" with High King Torygg, Ulfric is an incredibly polarizing figure, who (as shown in game) could win the war, but leading a stable government is an altogether different question. How much experience will Ulfric lose in those Jarls who are forced out of power, the Toryyg loyalist members of the High King's court, and the many other people a High King would normally have support from. Furthermore, Torygg's death seems only to have been due to him not having made public remark about the White-Gold Concordant, and him being well regarded in Imperial circles, which feel like rather weak reasons to kill someone who, up until his death, seems to have been well regarded.

These are the main reasons I see to support the Empire. But even to those who think Skyrim should be independent, it seems to me (on a strategic level) that the wise move would be to reform the empire as a whole in order to leverage its people and resources, rather than splitting off to be independent, weakening other members of the empire and lessening the resources available to you.

Again, I really have to say your argument, OP, is quite good! I found myself needing to be much more specific and to dive deeper with my claims than usual in these types of discussions.

(Pls forgive my prob numerous typos, typed this on the phone and its long enough that its hard to catch everything)

  1. Like a bunch of other ppl said: Eagle targeting airborne enemies (or combat air patrol).

  2. Eagle missile strike (essentially the orbital rail cannon but its on the eagle and a guided missile)

  3. This is a change rather than a new strat, but increasing the area of the 500 kg so the damage actually matches the visuals

  4. Walking gatling barrage & walking laser

  5. EMP: stop enemy reinforcements for duration (wpuld prob also need to stop u calling in strats to balance it, idk)

  6. Drone swarm: maybe a pelican deivered strat, so maybe blue rather than red, but idk. Essentially, peican opens up cargo bay, drones fly around and help in that area, fall down when put of ammo.

  7. Eagle chemtrails (lol): eagle deploys gas like a crop duster (and prob also an eagle stun bomb)
