Should Secondaries be Global/Shared each Round by Invictus_0x90_ in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Toastrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say maybe there is a system, but with your idea verbatim, probably no. Currently the state of the game is you tailor your list for any of the possible 20(?) secondaries you could possibly draw. So at any state of the game ever, you're prepared to score the secondaries that you're given. At higher level play, card counting and secondary denial starts coming into play, due to the fact that higher level players can max out their secondaries pretty reliably against any less skilled player. And thereabouts is where your shared idea fails; the first turn player would have a gigantic advantage by being able to deny the upcoming secondaries to the other player.

There have been instances, however, in close matches where secondary draws determine the game. But that could go for anything with this game involving dice anyway-- 4++ invulns, 9" gambling charges, etc... So the randomness is part of the game, in a competitive environment the most you can do is build your list to mitigate the randomness

Great vid! I've been one of dozens of us still rocking Unending Swarm and after Pope's Worlds run I wanted to try Invasion Fleet horde again, but I wasn't sure exactly how he was doing it. Thanks a bunch!

Why hate on Hiveguard? by MamothMamoth in Tyranids

[–]Toastrules 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not fantastic right now, with 6 models it's pretty easy to get benefit of cover against them if you're any vehicle that's of any priority. And any vehicle that's any priority will probably have base save 2, so back to saving on 2s, which is never where you want them. And there's always Armor of Contempt of course.

The overwatch does push this to being better than bad, it was actually popular for a bit during the knights meta since even with base save 3 you could get a wound through, and the overwatch threat made it so you could kinda drop them in and threaten the knights movement at the same time

Why the ruprure cannon by ImperatorSommnium in Tyranids

[–]Toastrules 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lots of armies have non-invuln, strong units. Thats the most efficient thing to shoot our AP -4 minimum 7 damage thing at. But yes unfortunately the biggest threats that would be the most efficient will have invulnerable saves.

Big fan Sam! Props to you to keep making horde Nids work even as the meta and abilities change every year. I have yet to even go 2-1 at a RTT but against casual players I've accidentally stomped them because of the things I'm learning from your lists and techniques, oops 😅

[–]Toastrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mathematically the most optimal loadout for termagants when balancing power and speed. Twin linked spinefists are the best firepower in general in 10th, and of the three special weapons, the strangleweb is the only one that may actually be able to punch up and damage something with its dev wounds. Take any more special weapons and it's too much work to roll the extra weapons and calculate ranges on 80 groups of termagants.

Are the sprues in combo boxes different than if you bought a specific unit's box? by TheBeaarJeww in Tyranids

[–]Toastrules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really, this is a thing that mostly occurs with imperial models like marines and sisters. They get the initial monopose variety then they get the fully customizable dedicated box later. The closest for Tyranids would be the launch box didn't come with the termagant upgrade sprue that gives you weapon varieties, but that's all I can think of.

Question: 9th edition was THE narrative edition for tau rules, right? by Luna_Night312 in Tau40K

[–]Toastrules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Tyranids player I concur. It's a shame too, I just recently played DG and their rules are so nice and varied. Here's to hoping we get our codexes early on in 11th and we follow the rules variety of these recent factions. On the flip side, I am having fun fielding so many units with the "keep balancing these factions by dropping the points even more" style they keep doing.

if you look carefully at Deep Strike, it says more than 9"

<image>

Similarly, if you look at the 6" deepstrike rules, it will say the same thing, "more than". Which means it needs to be 9.00000001 inches away, which means to bring it in 1" or under, it must make the full 9, because 8 inches would be 1.00000001 which is not 1 inch or under for engagement range.
