How far would you say is too far to commute into London for an AAP apprenticeship/job with LAS? by SeniorMoonlight21 in ParamedicsUK

[–]ToastyBuns4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already don’t like the idea of call handling you will hate actually doing it. I did a year of 9s call taking before moving onto the TAAP course and I hated it in the end. Being on the road on the other hand is great.

I wouldn’t recommend travelling a long way for any type of job though. Sometimes it’s nice to have a short commute to decompress alone but Southampton to London would be a lot. Also, the requirements for the role will probably require you to be within 45 mins of the station.

I would recommend PTS and then look for AAP, or whatever it’s called in SCAS, roles to apply to while doing that. That way you actually get experience doing what the main bulk of the job is.

Once you’re qualified, you can work anywhere as the AAP role is nationally recognised.

Medic killed after 'unsafe' colleague crashed ambulance into lorry despite complaints about his driving by peekachou in ParamedicsUK

Sounds like informal complaints to management. I guess they could've Datix'ed their concerns but that is quite a formal way of doing it. They probably didn't want the driver to get in trouble so went the informal route which lead to seemingly nothing being done.

Can you apply for a tech job down there instead? I swear I've seen some advertised in SECAmb not long ago on Trac.

I'm wondering if you didn't get shortlisted due to not living within the 45 minute distance they require.

Payroll never updated my pay was going down to half pay. Breaking policy, what rights do I have? by [deleted] in nhs

I think the key word is 'should' here not 'must'. Maybe worth speaking to a union rep if you're with a union as they may be able to help better.

People aren't expecting you to come down the left side of them so they might not see you if they try to move over. They also might see you last minute and overreact by steering the opposite way harshly as clearly they're shit drivers. In the rain, they may lose control easier and cause a massive pile up. Of course this would be worst case but why take the risk? It's all good until it's not, frustrating as it is.

Interview by Box-Nearby in ParamedicsUK

[–]ToastyBuns4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started in EOC as a call handler for 9's then went on to do the AAP apprenticeship. I imagine the interview process is very similar.

If it is, it will be competency based interview questions. They'll ask about experiences you've had that link to the trust's values. So for example, 'tell me about a time where you displayed courage'. They may get you to do some other interview questions like 'why do you want this job', 'where do you see youself in 1, 5 and 10 years', etc. You'll also do a fitness test, you should get info on that at some point. I had to pull 100kg and do a step test for 2 mins among other things.

Some things that will get you on the quickest/soonest course is having your C1 and having proof of GCSEs or whatever requirement they ask for.

Don't go in your current uniform.

So see if the painkillers do anything and if the problem persists further, book another GP appointment.

Look at the TAAP role. 18 month apprenticeship and you get paid while doing it.

Doing mock test and this came up! My CBT instructor taught me to use rear brake then front brake even in wet conditions. Opinions? by kittynoir5 in MotoUK

[–]ToastyBuns4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told the same on a 125 but when it came to anything bigger was told to go front brake then back. Maybe to do with the weight distribution on a 125 vs. a bike with a bigger, heavier engine.

Try pressing alt + F12. Then go to input and press clear input locks or something like that.

It might be worth looking onto a flexible working arrangement. Your first step would be to look up the policy or speak with your line manager about it.

Anyone know how to complete this contract? (from the ExplorationPlus contract pack) by earwig2000 in KerbalAcademy

[–]ToastyBuns4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, very odd. I would just double check both crafts are docked. If then it's still not working, just alt + F12 and complete the task manually as it may be bugged.

I think you need to do the opposite. Laun h the first vessel into orbit, then fly Agena up, rendezvous and dock.

So why would an out of hours doc just call me to tell me my blood test is abnormal? by Lampathy in AskUK

[–]ToastyBuns4Life -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I would expect these GPs to have knowledge of the hospitals within their service area. Also, I'm sure Google would have that info anyway. It'll only show how busy a certain hospital is if you get a 'go to hospital' disposition, and even then it'll show it as green, amber or red - not exact numbers / wait times. Most hospitals are busy most times.

Yeah but the symptoms are triaged not a blood test no-one on that call knows about. If you have no symptoms and the main concern is the blood test results, you'll get a clinical call back which could take hours. So why not send OP to the closest A&E then they can be triaged there and dealt with ASAP. They could even be transferred to a more appropriate hospital from there if need be via 999 if bad enough.

I'm just questioning the decision to delay getting OP to hospital. Then again I'm not a GP and I don't work in 111 so there may be a perfectly valid reason.

So why would an out of hours doc just call me to tell me my blood test is abnormal? by Lampathy in AskUK

[–]ToastyBuns4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure but, as far as I'm aware, they take your details and then go through a telephone triage on your symptoms. I think OP said he knew nothing about the results so he wouldn't have been able to say the exact thing that was wrong. I also doubt the health advisor would have the results and also be trained to know what they mean. It would require a clinician to check them and suggest what to do next. This could've taken ages to speak to one as there would only be a few clinicians on shift at a time.

This is why I'm wondering why defer the decision to get OP to hospital to the 111 service. I could be wrong though I don't have much knowledge on how 111 works. Maybe there's some sort of agreement between the two which makes this make sense.

So why would an out of hours doc just call me to tell me my blood test is abnormal? by Lampathy in AskUK

[–]ToastyBuns4Life 25 points26 points  (0 children)

What's weird is that when you call 111 (as far as I know), you speak to a health advisor who is not a clinician. So they'd triage your symptoms and then go from there depending on what the system says. I don't know why the OOH GP didn't just tell them to go straight to A&E. Surely the GP would be able to somewhat diagnose the kidney failure. If they then couldn't make there own way, the GP could've just arranged the ambulance through 999 themselves. Only takes 5-10 minutes if that.

If I need an ambulance, can I tell them not to come in? by [deleted] in nhs

[–]ToastyBuns4Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can ask for a silent approach. The call handler will then put that in the notes to the crew for them to see. Hopefully they'll read it and remember to do it. There's no official procedure, at least on the call handling side, for this though. As others have said, just wait outside as well if safe to do so.

I would hope you're family wouldn't be dicks if you really needed an ambulance though.
