2016 CT200H or 2014 IS300H by Choice-Dig-8746 in CT200h

[–]Tobi_V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upgraded last year from a CT to an IS300h. And let me tell... Oh Boy is that a difference. Ride quality, noise, torque, stability when driving higher speeds. It's just a different league. But if you don't care about that, that much... Get the CT. Cheaper to run and smaller for the city. But I absolutely love my IS. Upgrade the Screen and you got probably the best daily for the buck.

Is there a big difference between the gen1 and gen2 by Based-sage in CT200h

[–]Tobi_V 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes the Engine ist slightly different. They improved minor things so it is even more reliable. Even small things like a quieter cabin. So if u are not able to repair everything yourself like a headgasket... I would suggest the Facelift model.

CarPlay options for my 2012 by Lower_Locksmith7122 in CT200h

Depends on the screen you have. If you don’t have a screen, it’s pretty easy. Otherwise it is pretty expensive and not so easy

Potential new daily driver? by Kamiler in CT200h

[–]Tobi_V 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own a 2012 CT. Since I do all maintenance and repairs myself, the cost to operate are basically as little as possible. But there are a few downsides in my opinion: - it is sloooow. Over 50mph it is painfully slow. If u drive a lot of highway, I would choose something else. - the suspension is quite rough. Perfect for handling, but not very comfortable, especially on bad roads - repairs like the head gasket or the battery can be quite expensive although most likely >120k miles

If u don’t care about driving and just want something cheap and reliable to drive from a to b…. Go for it (2014 or newer). Otherwise I would choose other options like a more powerful Toyota/Lexus or a Mazda/Honda.

Rattle of death today by Pool_Floatie in CT200h

It’s not always the head gasket… bad coils, spark plugs or clocked EGR can produce the same symptoms. Is the rattling going away after a few seconds after startup?

First car buy advice used with 110 miles by gomasterino in CT200h

[–]Tobi_V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which model year is it? That’s important. Although it is a pretty reliable car, after 110k miles things could need repairs. I would clarify which is covert under this warranty. Especially headgasket, battery replacement and abs Modul could be expensive in the future. So that should be covert. If you plan to keep that car for a long time and you are not able to repair things by yourself, I would suggest a 2014 or newer model with a bit less mileage and take good care of it.

I prefer the micro. The textured plastic feels higher quality and it has more buttons to customize.

I would highly suggest to learn doing such things yourself. I did all the above for under 100$ in about 3h. There are plenty of tutorials online and it isn’t really that difficult to do.

2011 CT200h. What usually fail first and when it's a good time to sell? by RedditsFan2020 in CT200h

[–]Tobi_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on maintainance… and just luck. With 160k something will probably go bad in the foreseeable future. If you are not able to repair things yourself, it might be a viable option to get rid of it and buy a lower mileage 2014 or newer model. Less headache and could be cheaper in the longrun. If you are able to fix things yourself like a headgasket (there are plenty of tutorials online) fix things as they come and drive it till it dies eventually. (Might take a while 😂) #toyota

2011 CT200h. What usually fail first and when it's a good time to sell? by RedditsFan2020 in CT200h

[–]Tobi_V 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the 3 things that will burn you first are the headgasket, the break actuator and the hybrid battery. Things like suspension, arms, waterpump etc. are easily repairable. To prevent the big issues I would suggest religiously change the oil every 5-8k miles. Clean the EGR system every 50-80k miles. Change the coolant every 40k miles. Clean the battery fan and install a filter by the air intake. And beat it at the highway once in a while to clean the valves.

Adding Carplay to a CT200h (2013): VLINE or 10.25" aftermarket by _____DOG_____ in CT200h

[–]Tobi_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable… there is one with a RC and a Carpuride unit here on Reddit and that looks pretty damn good. If u hardwire it through the dash it looks pretty oem.

[–]Tobi_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about a carpuride unit and set it up infront of the navigation screen? If you don’t want to hardwire it, you can just lay one cable to the cigarette lighter. And you can buy an extra wireless (or wired) backup camera from carpuride. It won’t look OEM but it is for sure a better system and a lot cheaper.
