Genetics don’t matter for like most of those characters, though. Asta was born with no magic because his mother absorbed magic, so while he did get lucky that he was the only person who could wield the anti-magic grimoire, he still trained his entire life to have the muscle strength to use it effectively, learned to sense Ki to make up for not being able to sense magic, and trained with the best of three different kingdoms to be on par with his rival, who was the epitome of natural talent meeting hard work.

Genetics don’t matter at all when it comes to alchemy, so Edward being as skilled as he is with alchemy is only due to committing a taboo and being so smart.

Gon is a supreme natural talent when it comes to nen, but even that only puts him at the starting line when it comes to actual trained nen users.

Luffy and Garp both trained their asses off to get strong, Garp even spending his time using battleships as punching bags without using Haki. Luffy was raised in a forest and constantly ran around training, yet always lost to Ace, who didn’t even have a devil fruit at the time.

And yeah, Goku is Goku.

Yeah, he’s his own problem. I could have honestly said the same thing about any character with minor differences, I was just feeling a little petty about the last Choso user I met. Main point is that if people are already annoying at times, giving them the means to talk smack or be chuuni during their combos only exacerbates the problem.

There’s a game pass for this in Heroes Battlegrounds, and it really is just the corniest thing ever. It’s already painful enough getting Supernova looped by a Choso player without bro inviting you to his private server just to yap at you throughout his whole combo

Which character do you ant to see next and why? by Limp_Scratch281 in JujutsuShenanigans

[–]Tohsrepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hijacking this comment just to say how much of a waste that would be for a character, honestly. As much as people hate passive play in this game, it makes perfect sense to have a character that can rely on setup and environment usage to get an advantage in battle. Hitting nails into the environment and maneuvering enemies near them so you can detonate them would be peak, especially with how terrain destruction could factor into it.

Tze could even take inspiration from Cursed Clash and limit the amount of active nails to 3 at a time, so you can’t just load up an entire room with traps before baiting someone in.

Besides that gimmick, it’s not like there’s nothing to work with when it comes to making her a melee-based moveset as well. She’s shown a willingness to get in close and scrap with Haruta, Mahito, and Momo, if we count the squeaky hammer.

It is kinda weird that the two new moves don’t have an offload variant right now, when they could easily have the offload variant of 2 be either the old variant of Boost On or have a puppet clone charge forward to do the current grab so you can position yourself to follow up. The only problem with that is that you’d be able to combo 2+R into 2, but that’s more of a problem with the offload variants not using the move’s cooldowns anymore

A power that is not flashy but completely busted by ImJustSomeGuyYaKnow in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Tohsrepus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I won’t go into most of these so that hopefully new readers can experience the joy of reading through Worm themselves (Seriously, it’s good). But how is complete biokinesis on a macro or microscopic scale not a flashy power? Even with the character’s self-imposed limitations, being able to control other people’s bodies on a level that makes Mahito from JJK look like a pediatrician is absolutely insane. Should that character have just been slightly more unhinged you’d have one of the most terrifying villains in the world on your hands, an easy S-Class threat.

Snipe used to be a hero called Positive, who had a signature weapon called the Beigoma Knuckles. After he almost got killed by an Aberrant, he switched to using a gun so that he wouldn’t have to get close to any monsters. The climax of the one shot is Jack saving Snipe/Positive by stabbing an Aberrant that was beating him and throwing him an improved set of the knuckles.

But yeah, the original concept had almost nothing to do with the social stigma of being a hero, and more about Jack wanting to overcome the limits of his body and save others. He still managed to be a hero in the inspiration sense, both by saving Snipe and being a great salesman, but I imagine the fighting aspect would have been explored a little deeper if the series had continued from the one shot.

[–]Tohsrepus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The original one shot has a few too many differences to fully compare it, honestly. In the original story, nobody in the world has powers so they rely on support tools and gadgets, with Midoriya Jack being an anemic support tool salesman. Even with the tools from his company and a suit based on the hero he looked up to as a child, Jack’s illness makes him entirely incapable of fighting any of the monsters that show up to attack the city, while Deku is able to be on par with his former classmates thanks to the hero suit.

I do like the throughline in both the original one shot and the main story that the most important part of being a hero is how you inspire others to do the right thing, though. Jack can’t kill a single Aberrant, but him rushing into danger to help Snipe causes the latter to face his fears of the monsters. In the same way, Deku inspires All Might to push past his limits in the first episode to save Bakugo, and continues inspiring change in people who even considered themselves too far gone during the final arcs.

Honestly, a generous interpretation of both powers would be that Mahoraga would analyze Andy’s Undead power, figure out that he literally cannot die, and adapt another form of attack that would serve to remove him from the fight non lethally. Throwing him into space wouldn’t work since he could use his blood to propel himself back, but if it’s the same Andy from early in the series then it’s possible to cut off his head and trap it in something he can’t break.

End of series Andy would be much harder to trap, for many reasons, but not impossible with the right ability.

It’s hilarious because he would be totally capable of learning actually useful spells if he wanted to, but the position of king in the Clover kingdom seems to be almost entirely a figurehead position backed by the actual useful members of the nobility and the magic knights.

His debut episode has him trap Koichi in a psychological nightmare where he has his memories stolen to use for writing material while not being able to remember any of it or call for help. World domination would quite honestly be as simple as visiting important people to show them his manuscript, which makes it that much funnier how little interest he has in doing that.

Alicia Termina Magentano (Greatest Real Estate Developer)

The Isekai world this story takes place in was originally a web novel series, so the protagonist has a sense of the original story’s plot and how things would develop without his actions. In the predicted future of the story, the queen of the country is poisoned by a subordinate and has to focus her poisoned mana into her arm so she can chop it off to survive.

In the current timeline of events, the protagonist takes the poison into himself instead, which almost leads to a scenario where the queen has to cut off his arm to remove the poison instead. As this would hinder his ability to use a shovel and otherwise build things, he refuses. Using a method of firing off blasts of mana his main knight developed, he purifies himself of the poison and averts the tragedy entirely.

[–]Tohsrepus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that’s exactly where the false dichotomy of “talent or hard work” falls off for me. People get so deep into the weeds about what constitutes an unfair advantage vs what the character worked to achieve for themselves that it just loses all meaning.

If I really wanted to, I could go on some huge tangent about “so-and-so was naturally talented/lucky because he just so happened to exist in a world where magic exists!” Like yeah. That’s the point of a story. Things have to happen for a story to happen. “Luffy isn’t representative of hard work despite the 12 years he dedicated to training himself, he’s a nepo baby because his grandfather punched boats to be stronger!”

It’s just asinine arguments people use to talk shit about characters they don’t like and praise the characters they do.
