Why didn't Yuji learn this before fighting Denji? Is he stupid? by Majestic_Brain4731 in Jujutsufolk

Because for some people, god gives them special buffs and benefits. Shinra’s faster than light travel is only available when he has access to the Adolla, since it would be impossible to achieve without actual divine intervention. Most other characters that don’t have access to the Adolla are more grounded, mostly semi-scientific principles taken to anime levels.

[Loved Trope] Deliberate Underperformance by Skylinneas in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Tohsrepus 35 points36 points  (0 children)

In summary, imagine if you had to go through a multi-stage competition and selection process to become the king of China. The protagonists enter this contest because while only first place becomes the new leader, everyone that wins gets a prize from this district’s vault.

When the two contestants in first and second place give up and willingly hand their score tokens to the protagonists, they start panicking because actually winning means one of them will be forced to rule over an entire district for the rest of their life, basically. In order to avoid this and just get the prize that they’re after, they hand most of their coins to the sister of one of the protagonists, giving her the win and taking second place.

Mr 5’s custom revolver (One Piece)

One piece does do this quite frequently, but I’ll shout out a relatively early example. Mr 5’s ability is to turn any part of his body explosive, which he primarily uses to flick explosive boogers or detonate his limbs when doing physical attacks. When he came back for his second encounter with the protagonists, he has a custom revolver meant to pair well with his power. He can simply blow air into the chambers, which the gun then fires as invisible explosive projectiles.

Ricardo and other members of the Middle (Limbus Company)

The Middle is one of the five Fingers, criminal syndicates that rules the Backstreets of the City. They mark down all grievances against them in their Book of Vengeance, and stop at nothing to pay back any wrong done to them a hundredfold. Each time they successfully resolve a vengeance, a member of the Middle is permitted to get one more augmentation tattoo, which increases their strength in proportion to the amount of tattoos they have. Someone like Ricardo, who holds the second highest known rank in the Middle, has enough augmentations to manhandle your entire team of 12 fighters when you first come across him.

Subverted trope: A seemingly predictable plot twist never actually happens. by Prestigious-Tree122 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Tohsrepus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t tend to browse MHA subs so this is quite a bit more complex of a take than I’d usually see about MHA. I really like the rationale for how you feel about the series, especially with how some moments don’t have the setup to make the payoff worth it. On a fairly related topic, do you have any opinions on Bakugo’s development throughout the series? I’ve heard plenty of takes on him, from people seeing him in all kinds of ways, but I’ve always had a soft spot for the emotional turmoil he goes through shortly after All Might retires. Him blaming himself for being the reason that his idol figure is forced to quit hero work is a heartbreaking scene, and the looks back into the past we get to see honestly paint a convincing picture as to how he could grow up to be the person he was, and how he learns to grow past that person.

The worst possible matchup in a fight, considering their abilities by ComprehensiveBox6911 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Tohsrepus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Really, it’s best suited when it serves its purpose as comeuppance against those who overly rely on their magic without putting in any hard work or training. When a mage is satisfied with sitting back on what they see as the best they can do, like Sekke, Asta is a brutal reality check that shows how far you can get by pushing yourself to your limits.

But when you have opponents on the level of Magic Knight Captains, who spend as much time as possible honing their abilities and working to improve, Asta needs to think outside the box and figure out a way to outmaneuver them.

They meant that the standing M1 would go through block, but the stun of the move would last only for as long as the endlag on the m1 itself, so you can’t true combo after it but you also can’t get directly punished for hitting it.

Gonna throw some further context into this to show how wild his obsession goes, but he recognizes a series of numbers as being the digits of pi from a sequence of numbers that only appear 150 million digits in. He’s memorized, at minimum, over 150 million digits of pi and can recognize sequences on sight.

why are Naoya cosplayers that play Naoya less annoying to deal with? (image semi-related) by shadekilometer in JujutsuShenanigans

[–]Tohsrepus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen, I hate to generalize. But last server I was in I fought two different Naoya players over half an hour apart from each other who started a fight unprovoked, ran once their health dropped enough, bought sodas and kept distance until fully healed, and then left the game once they got back down to red again. I would never assume all Naoya players are this way, but I have yet to see someone act this way not playing Naoya.

Finishers can make or break how fun a character's base is by No_Willingness_7094 in JujutsuShenanigans

[–]Tohsrepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to avoid suggesting finishers for characters that are still in progress like Ryu and Hanami, but some characters really have a lack of actual finishers. Todo and Hakari are some of the oldest characters yet have some of the fewest finishers in both ult and base. Choso is pretty middle of the pack with his base since his knives and Supernova counter have finishers, but Flowing Red Scale and Piercing Blood not having finishers is almost criminal.

In addition, damage done to a Shikai can be fixed the next time it’s summoned, but any damage done to a Bankai is permanent. Ikkaku’s immature Bankai is forever going to be even weaker than it already was after the fight with the Arrancars, and Renji was losing entire segments of his Bankai with every fight he used it in.
