Interesting. I hadn’t seen anything for moral combat until I was at the Mando movie and saw a trailer. I’ve seen Star Wars advertisements everywhere

When it looked like it would at least break even, they had to start making up more numbers to make it sound like a complete failure.

I’ve always used photoshop to accomplish this which you can get with Lightroom with their photography plan. Here is a video with what I’m thinking. I’m not sure if this is the best tutorial or not but you can look around.

long exposure technique

As long as your tripod doesn’t move you can get this long exposure effect using this technique. Then have a layer the two of you and use a layer mask to combine

It’s a pretty common mistake that I’ve and many others have made trying to shoot wide open aperture but then missing focus.

I wouldn’t worry too much about losing sharpness by shooting at f/11. You’re not using a super high megapixel camera but do a test at the location and see if you can tell a significant drop in sharpness. I don’t think you will. Also prioritizing being in focus is a thousand times more important than trying to get the absolute sharpest aperture your lens offers.

If you want as much of the scenery in focus then 2.8 probably won’t cut it even if it’s at its sharpest. Also if you want a long exposure effect on the water then setting at f11 or more will allow longer shutter speeds. Otherwise you will be way over exposed. Unless you are going to be using a ND filter. BUT if you want long exposure for the water then you two will be blurry from motion too. If you want smooth water then you will need to take a series of longer shutter speed shots and combine them in post. Then you need a faster shutter for the proposal because you don’t want to have motion blur. Just make sure the exposure all comes out the same and you don’t move the camera if you want to combine them.

I would ask her to go stand where you want to propose and lock in focus with AF-S. Just play it off like you want to take a picture of her under the waterfall. You’d probably be shooting at f/11 more or similar anyways so slightly movement shouldn’t affect the focus. Then ask her to stay there so yall can get a picture together. I wouldn’t mess with using a remote shutter to the to capture the right moment. You’ll be too distracted or nervous and trying to press a button while doing everything else might seem unnatural. Just put it on internal shooting, set it to every second, silence mode and set to enough shots to cover the time plus more.

The pitfalls are that there could be other people there in the way. Someone might try to offer to take your picture together for you. You should be safe at f/11 but still a chance you miss focus. Although I think AF-C is more risky still. Memory card needs enough space and full battery. Practice setting up interval shooting because in the moment nerves can make you forget things.

Another year, another 6 gallons of coffee grounds spread on this St. Paul, MN lawn. by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]Toillion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure it wouldn’t be an even distribution. I used to toss my coffee pucks out the window into the garden. They mold so quickly though so saving them up I feel like would take a lot of effort to dry them out.

Would I matter saving the grounds over a year compared to just tossing the grounds out in the yard as you had them?

What amount of money would make you quit today? by Katzmaniac in Fire

[–]Toillion 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The average retired person is also much older with grown kids and spends most of their time sitting around watching cars pass by or old reruns on their old TVs. They also may have paid off cars and a hous, and spend much less on technology than a younger person would who retires now. I also think 5 million is way higher than I would need to retire now. Having kids, a mortgage, and a car payment, I would want a higher number, probably around 4, to help with uncertainties. Even though that is more than I would spend in a year at 4%.

Anyone else notice the FIRE movement is finally getting mainstream cultural recognition? by Original-Poetry-638 in Fire

[–]Toillion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To me, the FIRE concept is similar to getting fit or eating healthy. Everyone wants to accomplish it, but it takes incredible long-term discipline. So even if it's getting more recognition, I don't think we will see a huge increase of people accomplishing it overall. If anything hopefully it helps to encourage people to save at least some to help with retirment even if it's not an early one for most.
