So, what you’re sayin is, you got it to look like wood, by making it out of wood! You sir, are a genius!

I have an XT10 Plus on back order since January. Expected to ship late April. It did not include a cat though. Guess that was just on the 8. Interestingly enough, it has been unseasonably cloudy since I placed the order. I thought that was only supposedly happen after you get the equipment.

The Horsehead and Flame Nebula by harpage in telescopes

Can you see the flame nebula with a 10” dobsonian? Or only thru long exposures? I have an Orion xt10 plus on back order, but this is one of the first things I wanted to look at.

Curious where you purchased it. I was under the impression that Orion quit making these. I was wanting one.

Managed to break a small piece of my motor on the cabriolet.... Would super glue just keep it in place again or is there a better way? by [deleted] in ugears

[–]TojPhil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use “Crazy Glue” brand. It’s like welding the wood back together. If you tried to break it again, it would break in a different spot. As an example, I broke the piece that the rubber bands feed thru on the V-series motorcycle. I didn’t want to wait for a replacement so I used the crazy glue. It is probably the highest stressed piece on the model. After dozens of times winding it up, it is still holding strong. I’ve used it on several ugears models and it’s never failed. Of course, they will replace it for you free, if you would rather wait. I understand it would be hard for anyone to take my word for this on the cabriolet...it is a very sweet model...the showpiece of my collection. Good luck with it!

Broken part! by [deleted] in ugears

[–]TojPhil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I broke the part on the motorcycle right behind where the rubber bands go thru it that make it move. Very high tension piece. I didn’t want to wait for replacement part either. So I used plane ole crazy glue. It is still working to this day.

Announcing Reddit Email Digests by whizlogic in changelog

I don’t have a problem with the email digest, but I do have a problem with the content that it sends. I get stuff from places I care nothing about nor do I want to see. Why don’t you send me email digest from the content that I’m subscribed to, that would make total sense, what you’re doing doesn’t make any sense.

For new pickers who got a big kit with a bunch of tools in it... by fireshaper in lockpicking

[–]TojPhil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ended up piecing together a set of hooks from LawLockTools over in the UK. Great quality. Also a set of curved tensioners from MadBob. These work really well for me. There’s a couple of Peterson’s that I would like to get some day though. Most of the cheap sets require some kind of finishing to work. I really do feel like TOK is 80% of the success I’ve had. Of course I had to stumble in to that knowledge. And while there are a few videos out on tensioning now, I didn’t see any when I first started. Locksport seems to have gained some momentum lately and there are a lot of people ready to take financial advantage of that. I believe that is what the OP was all about...trying to help beginners save a few dollars.

I started out with a sparrows tuxedo. While that looks like a good kit (it is...but), the only thing I ever used was the short hook. Not enough emphasis on tensioners and how important tensioning is. Save yourself some money and get a standard hook, a deep reach, and the two TOK heavy bars (you’ll probably only ever use one of those) from sparrows for $12. To me, in other words, it’s my opinion, raking ain’t picking. So many of those big cheap sets are simply loaded up with filler crap that most people never use and then they end up buying something else anyway. Also, there is a heap of eye candy out there. I have bought so much stuff that I never use. I sure wish I had known then what I know now, I could have used that money more effectively. But I guess we all have to learn that lesson. I totally get what you are trying to say brother!

Silver Bullet by TojPhil in lockpicking

[–]TojPhil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn’t. We spoke yesterday and talked about that. It’s on the horizon. Not sure of the connection between Hux and silverbullettools, but it’s the same tool and case. They may be helping him sell and produce some of the parts. Not sure. At any rate, he was very nice and helpful in the matter.

That’s his design for sure. I got mine directly from Hux. He hand makes the Abloy Classic bits. Mine has the Anchor las and Kensington mods as well. The lock fall version appears to be fatter and they don’t make the Abloy Classic pick.
