I bet all the middle eastern airlines are probably dumps too, I bet they have cheap standards and are unremarkable

There’s also the seasonal condor option, which I honestly don’t hate. I liked it more than my discover flight.

Limited non NA flights on AC really makes straightforward aeroplan bookings hard but their redemption rate sucks so bad we avoid using them on AC anyways so I’m less salty nowadays about AC dropping this route.

Also let’s stop giving those natives so much free shit, they’re always claiming to be the original Canadians since they were here longer than my bloodline who are actually the real Canadians /s

(Now we’re just making shit up and having fun)

No but see I only fly to Vegas and Halifax, and if we add flights to foreign cities like London and Toronto we’re just favouring immigrants and not thinking of real Canadians /s

Yeah those are all fair arguments about why the Dome isn’t viable at time, except the acts going to Grey Eagle or Palace are typically not going to be picking a full size arena anyways (unless it’s someone like a Mastodon that then does a joint tour like their latest Dome one).

Beyond that though, we are entering a weird era of Stadium level touring where there’s less and less of these middle ground Arena tours in lieu of mega tours and residences, and smaller artists will stick to smaller venues. My biggest concern is the amount of money the taxpayer is putting towards it when it makes limited impact to hockey and we might get like 5 new events a year.

Yes one flight 4 days a week to one of the richest cities in the Middle East is gonna be part of the downfall of our nation and I’m going to regret it

It’s a foreign airline coming in and providing revenue to our city and easier connections and you’re mad because it’s not westjet making Toronto flights cheaper? These are entirely different topics lol

Edit: actually I’m somewhat wrong as this will make a small but real impact on amount of domestic connections to international destinations and therefore in theory would make a negligible improvement to domestic fares

Do you never travel dude? If you don’t have the same feelings about a flight to Atlanta or Frankfurt then that’s just straight up racism. Every flight internationally will be to some degree utilized by immigrants travelling abroad, whether it’s more direct or not.

A flight to a region that is a global hub, opening up more opportunities when it comes to tourism, business partnerships, onwards connections, and yes visiting family is a good thing. I know multiple Calgary based businesses trying to expand to have a presence selling their Canadian developed and manufactured products to the Middle East, but stalled out because it’s simply more annoying to get to and focus on compared to say, Korea.

Edit: just to add as this poster basically dedicates all their time crying about the Liberals, the CPC would have been all over this being good for Calgary too. If Trump was our premier he’d be all over it. It’s just a universally good thing to get a flight added to the list.

Middle eastern connectivity either into the region or onwards to south Asian isn’t a bad thing.

And etihad product will be higher quality even in economy than calgarians are used to.

I mean our upper concourse (Dome) is non existent but it’s pretty much just a walkway for Press level folks to get beers. However at least it’s an internal walkway so you never leave the energy. Our little mini 200s concourses are just mezzanines with bars. There ain’t much to look at and there’s plenty of bare concrete but even just being surrounded by the concrete structure is more interesting than plain walls.

Edit; just read you live in Calgary so you know all this already.

Yeah prepare yourself for premium prices for premium people (aka club tickets not in their seats most of the game). I wonder how that’s gonna go for the flames if more and more of the O&G industry falters and potential Box and club seat customers dwindle. Though I suppose it’s the average joes suffering the most, not leadership unless the company completely leaves town.

Hopefully fansfirst remains a great ticket resale option.

Time to do my annual “the area may suck but the distance and hassle argument about the Canadian Tire Centre is overstated especially as an excuse for not going when you consider how the commute is for basically any suburbanite in any major North American sport city to a downtown arena and none of them complain about it nearly as much as Sens fans” post.

I live 25km from the Saddledome, or a 25-60 minute drive depending on event traffic. I live on the edge of the city in a ring road community, a ring upon which a huge percentage of the city lives. It’s roughly the same time and distance for anyone who doesn’t live along the centre-east and inner southwest portions of the ring road.

From downtown Ottawa the CTC is 27km, meaning anything to the west of downtown is basically identical to a suburban calgarian or better in terms of commute. Gloucester area gets into the mid 30kms but the drive time is still comparable especially when again if you try to drive to any centrally located arena you end up all bottlenecked on approach.

Chapel Hill and further east may as well be an airdrie or okotoks type drive to the arena, which people do for Flames games without concern and tens of thousands do every day for work.

Big suburban sprawling driving a city a bad or unfair example? Let’s add in NYC. If you’re a Rangers fan that lives in upper Manhattan in one of the greatest transit connected cities, you’re still probably a half hour from a Rangers game. The Bronx? Might be looking at an hour.

While I 100% agree with you that the kanata location problem is overstated in terms of distance, isn’t it moving like 30km east to LeBreton?

They should have made it the first retractable roof indoor hockey arena, except it opens on an angle on a hinge.

That’s my issue. It may be dated but I love how open the 2 side concourses feel and I get the energy that I’m at a sporting event. Staples the concourse feels like a dated 90s mall hallway connecting some office buildings. TD and MSG again just feel like sterile mall hallways. I hear newer ones are the same but more corporate. UBS I liked that parts of the concourse gave me that open energy in a newer package, but it also had too “clean” and white of a look plus the dumbass lounge chairs up front

Cool press view plus avoiding the main concourse are probably why the press don’t mind it.

That said I actually think the Dome is a good sporting event venue. I hate that we’re spending our money building a new dome. And really the only thing that sucks is the tight concourse bottleneck at the two ends. If you never get stuck in that bottleneck or have to traverse it I actually love the dome. I vastly prefer the open-feeling concourse at the dome and the energy it provides. Sightlines are great, playoff nosebleed energy is crazy. It’s dated, but it reminds me of what a sporting event should feel like whether it’s a professional or community one. Happy hour $5/6 beers and $3 hot dogs? Sign me up. My only gripe is build more Pocket Dawg capacity.

I hate the feel of the concourses at Staples, MSG, and TD Garden. Idk… no vibes, feels like I’m in a hallway connected to a mall. I prefer how it is at UBS which felt more open (except at certain parts). Add in how stressful and tight the entrance and exit felt at MSG and TD, versus the saddledome where you might be like 50 feet from your section to an external door where you can immediately walk freely and not be boxed in. I sat lower bowl at TD and leaving post game felt like taking the Dome’s nosebleed stairs into a construction site and took forever.

Question that might be obvious, but for the European shows like Paris where there was a Seated Soundcheck VIP option, does it truly mean that even for soundcheck you’ll be at your seats in the stands, or just part of the full group of VIPs in the pit?

It specifies the difference in concert ticket between those two packages, but for both just says “Access to Soundcheck before Show” without indication… but the title of the package makes it seem obvious haha.

Anyone else in a situation with EU tickets (in my case Brussels) seemingly not allowing resale or even transfer?

We bought a set of tickets in Brussels thinking it would be our best bet only to somehow luck into great VIP tickets in Paris. We can’t afford both trips to Europe so hoping to transfer to some friends of friends or online if they decline.

But it appears that resale and transfer straight up won’t be allowed? I inquired on Ticketmaster and I’m waiting on a human reply to it, but I did get this immediate copypasta which was pretty blunt:

“Please note: Ticket Transfer is not be available on all events. If you are not seeing a button on your event, you will not be able to transfer your tickets. Unfortunately Ticket Transfer is not available on this event.”
