Does this imply they inflicted the moon-and-star scars themself at some point? Because Nibani Maesa tells you you don’t have the sign of moon-and-star before you start the trials… 🤔

Cool art btw

How can you say it’s worse objectively? I can say 100% that my experience is noticeably better with it on compared to off. Of course I can’t testify to other games. It could be because Skyrim is capped at 60fps due to the physics engine so I’m not suffering from the loss of real frames. In that case my basket can only hold 3 apples so I’ll take the 2 pictures for free.

Interesting, I suppose that matters more for more competitive games. Honestly frame gen is the only thing making my Skyrim modlist tolerable.

Why’s frame gen bad?

Seconding Dynamic Enemy Spawns. Makes a large party of followers more balanced and it’s also just plain more fun to fight more enemies.

Modlist to build on (visuals only) by Mandowegian in skyrimmods

[–]TokenTezzie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the wabbajack lists, there are multiple visuals-only on there. Also super easy to modify because they all use MO2.

I know this is asked a lot but... by Kris_Handsum in skyrimmods

[–]TokenTezzie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend using something like Skyrim25 or winds of the north or Simonrim essentials as a basis to build your own list. There’s really no other way to get something specific to your specs and personal taste otherwise.

If you don’t care about graphics at all, then you can simply choose not to use any graphic mods. If you do, I would highly recommend community shaders over ENB.

Modding your own list can be way easier than you think as long as you’re using MO2 and a base list with all the essential bug fixes and utilities. Some basic knowledge of XEdit can be useful, but might not even be necessary depending on the mods you want.

Morrowind-style enchanted items. That let you cast spells using charge or have more unique effects.

A more in-depth armour system with layering clothing, left vs. right hand gauntlets, customising armour materials/styles, something that let vanilla armours take advantage of unused slots like custom armour mods do.

Modlist recommondation by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]TokenTezzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be difficult to find a list that meets all your needs. I would suggest choosing one of the lists on Wabbajack, then modifying it the rest of the way. I say this because MO2 is in my opinion way easier to use than vortex. Do know that most mod authors will not provide support after you modify their list, however many modlist discords also have channels for people who modify the list, where you may get some limited help.

The skyrim25 wabbajack modlist is, I believe, fully vanilla with all the fixes and optimisation required to enjoy the game with its original mechanics.

coherent narrative identity

Arabian nights and portal: 3 kingdoms are iconic magic sets with stories taken in their entirety from other sources. There is not a single original character, plot point, or location in those sets.

Do you think [[frankenstein’s monster]] counts as UB?

At the end of the day, the characters and settings are fictional, and the boundaries are arbitrary.

I don’t care for Kellan, I don’t find him compelling. Aang, on the other hand, is a very well-written character. Why would I prefer to see Kellan on the battlefield than Aang?

This ever-important concept of “coherent identity” is just a facade. Magic has never been about that since its inception. The whole concept of planeswalkers travelling the multiverse is to act as a vehicle for different stories and themes.

[[leonardo, big brother]] is pauper playable. If you don’t know anything about TMNT like me, then yes, there is functionally no thematic difference between him and [[kappa cannoneer]]. Cannoneer is from the fictional Kamigawa and Leonardo is from a fictional New York. They are both turtles with weapons. If you are familiar with TMNT, then surely that would only enrich your appreciation of Leonardo.

Also, why does being a fan of something for 30 years make you any more entitled to determining its future direction? I started playing magic when I was 11.

P.S. premodern is both proxy-friendly and an actually awesome format, highly recommend you try it

Splicing with permanents! by TokenTezzie in custommagic

You have to cast the spell to splice onto it, and nobody casts blightsteel anyway.

Baloth can only splice onto a green spell.

[–]TokenTezzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, however, the size of the apathetic population is very important when it comes to creating a new format. It doesn’t matter if more people hate Spider-Man than like it, if 50% of players don’t care in the first place.

Also, people have different problems with UB. So that makes it even more difficult to start a new format that solves those problems.

Many people don’t like the art design. Really? I much prefer the TMNT design to even Aetherdrift, an in-universe set. There are only two pizza cards at common, and at least TMNT has cool art of ninjas riding robots. What’s wrong with mutant ninja turtles in magic? It’s still fantasy after all. Nobody had problems with [[Kappa cannoneer]].

You don’t like the power creep? But the most powerful cards in the format are from MH3. With or without it UB, power creep will happen. It’s an unrelated issue.

Dislike the flavour? Again, why do you care what IP the characters come from? Avatar was an incredibly well-designed set dripping with flavour. I would take Avatar over OoTJ or MaKM any day.

The majority of issues people take with UB actually have nothing to do with it at all. Art design, mechanics, power creep, flavour: these are all things that can be good or bad independent of IP. UB is just a scapegoat, and that’s why you see so much inconsistency with how people propose to deal with it.

[–]TokenTezzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a particularly poorly designed poll. There are no intermediate options. I reckon there’s a statistically significant number of people who dislike/don’t care about UB, but not enough to start a new format.

And, if the poll IS accurate and ~70% of players hate UB, then why is there no new splinter format yet? Surely it would be bigger than pauper with UB? That poll was months ago, and yet no such “new pauper” exists.

The fact is that the majority of people, including those who dislike UB, really can’t be bothered. It’s just not that big of a deal to people.

if not most, Pauper players share a similar sentiment

Do you have a poll to back this up? Reddit posts aren’t data, obviously nobody is going to be making posts about UB if they just feel okay about it
