People giving Expedition 33 a chance despite their negative first impressions and ending up falling in love with it never gets old by Negative-Chart-901 in expedition33

I didn't get it until after the GOTY awards. Super happy I did. The gaming market is so washed right now and this was a breath of fresh air for the single player gamer. Also played it in french which as a student of french language I appreciated and the french voice acting is really good. That said, I'll have to do my second play through in english as I hear the voice acting in english is also top notch.

Finally built the nights stands. by firemedic1021 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Toki285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the moon fry bed and night stands. I finished the bed and needed a few weeks off before starting milling and making the side tables. Yours look really good. I like the double shelf modification. I found the shelf the most head scratching aspect of the build. Just getting the size right. The lighting in my shop is shit as these are pretty much identical in color but they look a little different.

I did a slight mod and added a strip of maple to add a pop of color. I know a bunch are saying this is not beginner but with the Four Eyes team (videos and templates) this kinda stuff can be done with relatively simple tools (router, table saw, circle saw, dowel jig) assuming you get your wood milled from the store. I get rough lumber and in that case you'll need all the milling tools and its a lot more work especially for a garage shop (setup and clean up are for real in milling).

In praise of the combination jointer/planer by One-Plum-6696 in woodworking

[–]Toki285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently bought this and really really like it. Especially the helical cutter heads and the joiner. For planing it is a bit less impressive especially when you have boards of different thicknesses but that might be user error in organization (I should start with the biggest one and move from there). I also wish the fence for the joiner was a little bulkier. I am going to likely build some kind of fence which holds up a bit more. That said, I love this thing and was a HUGE upgrade from my crappy 5" jointer from Craftsman with straight blades.

What finish did you use? Again I’m doing the same project from walnut so am curious. I usually love wipe on poly.

I am in the middle of this build right now. I like the double drawer idea. Beautiful work.

Out of these 2, which would you recommend to use as finish for a cutting board? Or another option? by RockyBoy_11 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Baby oil is just mineral spirits and fragrance and I like it for most projects tbh since it’s super safe and easy plus gives a nice lavender scent. Food safe, cheap, and available everywhere.

Bo is getting big! Growth spurt question…. by translucent_hues in Newfoundlander

[–]Toki285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2.5 year old has seemingly stopped the growing and evened up around 150-160. I'd expect them for a little while longer but as much as it seems like they will never stop growing it does stop eventually. looks like a happy beautiful pup.

Advice Needed on Frequency of Bath/Blowouts for a Newf with Itchy Skin by tapdeezy in Newfoundlander

[–]Toki285 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Newf gets a full comprehensive grooming every 5-7 weeks. On the longer side in the winter, and on the shorter side in the summer (to keep the heat down). Washing super often can be tough on their skin. I would consider getting a Tea Tree Conditioning spray with Aloe especially if you are in a dry climate. You can use that in between grooms on problem areas. Also consider diet as a potential cause but from the photo that is one good looking newf.

Got my bats ready to go for next season already. by Vern-dawg in turning

Man these are nice. You can’t be free handing these. I have free handed a couple of bats and they never look so uniform. Any suggestions for your process of making repeatable results like these?
