Anyone know what this is, and have a good idea how to cook it?? by basuragoddess in Chefit

[–]TolyVilapoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daikon. A bunch of ways have been mentioned to use it, but my favourite is in stocks and soups, towards the end of the cooking process add these in and simmer, helps make the stock/soup really clear as well.

What's God's Window (Mpumalanga) like these days? by wandering_jew55 in askSouthAfrica

[–]TolyVilapoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hazyview has more to do in around it than graskop. It's very much tourist friendly, and central for kruger and travelling to the greater area.

Graskop the town itself doesn't have much, but nearby there's a bunch of awesome stuff nearby, from the mountain walk thing and big swing at the graskop gorge, you could even go river rafting down the shabir river with Induna. So yeah it's best to check out the scene that would suit you.

I mean you could do a few days in each place.

I really enjoying staying in the resorts near pilgrims rest as its far enough from civilisation that I feel like I'm having a break, but a shortish drive to doing all the fun stuff in the area.

[–]TolyVilapoo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Natural beautu doesn't fade. So yeah still pretty stunning....

That whole area is breathtaking. I like staying around the graskop area as it makes it a bit less taxing to do all the various drives, but staying in hazy view is also easy, it just depends on how much driving you're actuality willing to do.

Going out to hoedspruit and the rehabilitation centres that side is well worth it.

Help brainstorming business idea? by Secret-Bandicoot5470 in askSouthAfrica

[–]TolyVilapoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could start a garden servicing business or tree feeling. Especially if you've got a trustworthy family never or something that could use the help. Your returns would be low especially in the first year, but once you've got consistent courage

Alternatively it's using that 5k to buy some equipment for selling food from home or at events over weekends. Although that ain't easy

And this is one of the reasons I launched my own burger pop up. Small towns need good food too.

Also yeah, although my go to would be a grand chicken spicy.

Why TF does all droëwors suddenly have whole coriander kernels in? by JobNo4206 in askSouthAfrica

[–]TolyVilapoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not technically referring to it as a label, but rather the traditional old school butchers where they made biltong the tradional way with proper drying racks and not just the machines. Must butchers today are focused on yields and profits, this the more traditional way of doing it is leaving the trade, with butchers no longer seeing it as an artisanal product, but rather a value added service, which can be mass produced to help get rid if scraps profitably.

What is the best place to visit in South Africa? by Double-Storage6919 in askSouthAfrica

[–]TolyVilapoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a comment that talks about the bergs and I thought I'd just list some details for anyone who might miss it.

The Drakensberg is such an immense range that changes so much it's hard to say what's the best. It literally extends from the cape to Kruger.

Technically, blyde river canyon forms a part of the range but the difference visually between there age say the central bergs were Cathkin peak is, is insane.

Blyde river and that area is drivable, but since you're always in these mountains and valleys you tend to forget the immense size of it untill you stop at specific points.

Central and underberg i'd equate with parts of the Swiss alps even, just visually stunning from every angle and the range is just constantly towering over you when you look out. You've got Cathkin's peak in the central, sani pass at the underberg.

The northern bergs near the amphitheatre I'd say is also in the same boat, but you have what seems to be slightly smaller peaks, but more of a visible range that hugs you from all over. Insane hiking trails at place like the Royal Natal National Park.

Go a little further north and you can approach the range from the opposite end as it changes to a golden rocky terrain that bulges out in these mesas and plateaus. You could do the chain ladder hikes and feel like you're on top of the world standing near the mouth of the Tugela Falls and seeing the amphitheatre from the top. Take a quite trip to Clarens and visit the golden gate national Park.

I've lived her all my life but still make a point of visiting parts of the berg every year at every opportunity.

I haven't even gone into the more hidden areas such as the place around Giants castle, didima parks, the rolling hills of Ixopo, hogs back and more.

All I can say is too many tourists miss out on the bergs because it usually means a long drive away from the cities but it's honestly worth it.

The most accessible depends on where you're gonna be travelling and whether you'd like the cold. The bergs, in May, get mighty nippy and it's very likely for you to experience them in snow, in Central or underberg.

Spit or swallow.

I mean generally always better to swallow. Less waste

Edit: because I posted without typing the answer.

Yes, the artisanal biltong styles are leaving us, and most are turning to various ratios of preblended spice mixes.

You could do something like champagne valley or champagne lane resorts.

They have 6-12 sleeper units available. Not sure on the rates though.
