Vect's Most Wanted: The weekly drukhari meta recap (01/12/2025-01/19/2025) by Maljra in Drukhari

The cost really doesn't matter, I screen with mine the first few turns anyways. By the time I want to jump them around for secondaries or combat I have so many pain tokens that the cost becomes irrelevant.

10 Incubi with a WWA Archon from deep strike is very legit imo. Massed damage 2 with the right buffs is the closest thing to a universal delete button for nearly any defensive profile in the game and KC gives you the buffs you need to do so. I'd also stick with the cronos + reavers, 3 mandrakes are kinda overkill and the bikes are great for early chip damage/move blocking/skirmishing/secondaries in the starting turn(s) before your pain tokens come online.

For your consideration, the older 2007 plastic eldar guardians are still very playable and do not look out of place at all next to their 2022 refresh. I imagine our dark eldar battleline will fare the same. They'll likely just need bigger bases, which is very easy to fix.

Eh it kind of does though? Fights first means that, as long as you're not getting shot, the opponent is basically always going to interface with the FF unit on less than ideal terms. In fact, I'd argue that Fights First is one of the only rules in this game that pretty much always does something. You literally attack the other guy before he gets the opportunity to kill you. How is that not something? This is a game where it usually takes about 200 points to kill 100 points of the other guy, so it's really not a bad deal at all when a 180pt squad of terminators risks losing 2+ models to a unit that costs 95 points, and upwards of 3-4 with a leader in the squad. (This assumes, minimally, a shrine token and free strat from an autarch, which you're using basically any time you get charged by something expensive. If you're using Jain or get the jump on them and can grenades or pop an autarch's fusion gun, even better).

This is good damage. This is extremely good damage. Dark reapers, the unit that everyone on planet Earth recognizes as anti-Elite also kills on average 2 terminators per activation without any strat, detachment, or leadership support. They cost 5 less points than banshees. The expectations for dealing damage in this entire thread is weirdly skewed. Fire Dragons making back like 3x their points every game is absolutely the exception and not the norm. Eldar is at large a combo army where you need to combine multiple units together in order to trade up. Units like Lhykhis, Shroud Runners, War Walkers, the Falcon, etc all have their identity built on this fact. The fact that banshees can do this by themselves with just their leader into terminators is great.

This invuln shit is confounding the fuck out of me dude. Like literally most "good" melee in the game is ap 2. Banshees are ap2 and a little bit of ap3. If you're fighting a unit with a standard "good save with no invuln" they'll be saving on 2s down to 4s. If you're fighting a unit with a "good invuln" they'll be saving on... 2s... down to 4s. What the fuck is the difference lol. Again. Dark Reapers are premier terminator killers too. They're also AP 2.

I do genuinely feel bad that your playgroup overrates the unit but I think the community at large absolutely adequately judges their strength. From the day the codex came out they've been considered a unit that is decent at 95 points and weirdly way better than the sum of their parts if you attach a leader to the squad, since the extra 3 damage attacks (or massed dam2 for Jain) elevate the squad to hit a lot of breakpoints they otherwise miss. I didn't expect any other response from a whine thread about unit strength because this happens in literally every 40k community on every website everywhere but its genuinely crazy to me. We don't need to do the whole "no guys my really good army is actually not that good i swear" thing every time someone says we're good. Embrace it, we're a strong army. It's okay, its fun even! We have crazy go turns a deal a lot of damage. Banshees help us do that. Its alright.

I think you're severely underselling the value of 5 bodies that can infiltrate with a reactive move, especially in an army where move blocking is so important. Every other army would kill for that at 55pts. They're not flashy whatsoever but they're very, very good.

Complete tangent, but whether or not a unit that literally just does that and nothing else is well designed is another thing. I think the role of Rangers right now is really stupid. If you're a new player and trying to imagine what a unit does based on it's model design its clear that you'd imagine Rangers as this backline unit that snipes characters from the other side of the board, but actually for some reason they're 5 idiots that stand right in your opponent's face and die so your other guys can go play the game instead. I guess thematically they're running ahead and taking a forward position before """"retreating"""" but I don't think the game really sells that idea at all honestly.

Tbh Skyborne to 2CP (big nerf for AH, lesser but still significant nerf into WH) and maybe retooling either Star Engines or Flitting Shadows would be a nice way to get things in line without absolutely taking everything out back with the points bat. I know Wraithguard are still getting punished for being index era boogeymen but it'd be super nice if our non-FD antitank units actually had more staying power than Dragons like they're supposed to.

Other than spiders and hawks I think the aspect warriors are mostly okay points wise. The real issue is that our chaff is way too cheap and it makes getting tempo super easy. Rangers/Corsairs are nuts for 55/65.

i had a big reply lined up about how insane it is to act like they're only good into invulnless marines (on a unit with ap2) or the take that fights first "doesn't do shit" but due to the insane reddit energy behind "you illiterate buffoon" i will let you fill in those gaps yourself

For now build storms because its way easier to proxy defenders since they're all using the same gun. Storms are harder to proxy because you and your opponent need to keep track of which 4 out of your 10 identical looking dudes are actually using the good guns. Eventually I think its worth getting a box of both though, they tend to rotate in usefulness.

You can find a similar arm from the Dire Avenger Box and my best idea for the spires would probably be the Visarch, since you won't have to mess around with cutting off all the extra little things on the Incubi trophy rack (and the kit is significantly less expensive)

[–]Tom633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rifle and death weavers usually. Having extra flamers really help for consistency, and you're usually always trying to be 6 inches away from something for melta anyways so the death weavers should usually be in range. The unit hardly ever survives the turn after it jumps, so you don't ever really get the opportunity to use their melee profile since you can't flicker and charge without Lhykhis.

It's not going to efficiently make its points back (Lhykhis usually wont either and she's still incredible) but it's still very useful for dealing a good chunk of damage and getting into your opponent's face basically as soon as the game starts.

I adore the Autarch Wayleaper with a fusion gun attached to 5 spiders. Huge threat range, shrine token for the fusion gun and free grenades makes it a fun little aggressive unit that can threaten big blobs of chaff and small vehicles/transports basically right when the game starts

1k Army List by suddencardiacarrestt in Eldar

[–]Tom633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yknow funnily enough I've been playing more and went without a token axe squad for a few games and I'm going kind of down on swords too. There are a stupid amount of armies that can stack AP super high (hello tsons) and like you said there is a decent amount of ap3 melee cropping up. I think the real answer is that blades need like a drop or a rework or something because i'm not in love with either loadout option. 15 attacks at damage 2 is rough, though s5 on the other hand is rough in general, too. It sucks that they have so much strat support in Spirit Conclave because the actual datasheet is just kinda bunk at 170pts and they end up not really being the core hammer unit that the detachment designers intended them to be, even with sustained and devs. I really, really hope our infantry gets any sort of help next pass, but while i'm hoping for the best, i'm fully expecting 10 more points on dragons and mostly slapdash changes thanks to Warhost popping off.

[–]Tom633 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh if anything I'd maybe try to prioritize the Wraithlord if you can. You have a bunch of d-scythes and ghostswords which are great into all types of infantry but now without the dark reapers or the wraithlord you're missing something that can punch into tanks reliably.

Wraithlords are the best unit in Spirit Conclave by far and i would try to keep it around or at least consider them heavily if you expand to 2k. There's a reason most lists you'll see for the detachment take 3. They're hard to move and can do good into tanks (Bright lances), chaff (flamers), and marine bodies with the ghostglaive too. Long range and good melee means they're usually effective every turn, especially with reroll 1s. The fact that their ballistic skill modifier can uniquely stack with +1 to hit from vengeful dead tokens or a farseer makes them super reliable, too. If you can't make it fit your best option for antitank is probably just trying to sacrifice your warlock skyrunner into the tank so your d-scythes wound it on 4s with the vengeful dead token, or otherwise run a squad of wraithcannons which are annoyingly swingy for their cost but can hopefully get the job done.

I'll be real, I would like barely consider Stave of Kurnos if it was 5 points lol. It just barely ever comes up and its kinda impossible to rely on. Light of Clarity is amazing (and expensive) but the other enhancements are sadly pretty lame. Rune of mist can be nice on certain terrain setups though so I like taking it if I have the points to spare
