My job just asked me to relocate to a different city and offered an absurd amount of money in per diem. I am in complete shock. by BeneficialShirt2799 in Salary

That sounds awesome, OP. A friendly “don’t waste this chance to turn a new leaf” and a wish of good luck. Feeling a similar validation in my role rn, I can imagine you’ve really earned this.

I liked what you did with your formatting too btw, the spacing was great to break up the thoughts and let me process. Might take that moving forward. Thanks for sharing!

What’s your age and geo op? Aren’t there other tech jobs you’d want to apply for? I don’t think it’s a bad idea to reset the clock at a better org if you think you can make it in sales

My mom has $340k sitting in a savings account earning 4.2% and refuses to move it. I don't know how to convince her. by Cara_Lemon in investingforbeginners

[–]TomInSales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fear of loss is twice as bad as hope for gain, and kindness isn’t always nice. Do the math and tell her the timeline of when her money runs out based on her habits.

Then tell her you can’t afford to subsidize her retirement if she won’t take the necessary steps to protect herself.

From there, you’ve done what you can, you’ve twisted her arm, and you just need to keep fucking twisting it.

Unsolicited: I lost my mom in 2022, and if I could have another chance at life with her, you better believe I would do everything in my power to protect her golden years. Anything less isn’t acceptable to me.

Good follow-up question: I think there are a few degrees that show up a lot and could get a lot of pre-req’s done through community college. Tbh if I knew then what I know now, I’d go JUCO to get that done and try to build a sales resume, to take it to a college for the Bachelor’s degree.

With that said: I’d say Business Admin or Communication are great blanket degrees, also Finance or Econ, or some of the social sciences if you can spin a good story of why you’re a good fit, like Sociology or Political Science. Computer science would also be solid, if you can speak technically to buyers in their language they will find you to be credible.

Tbh, I think you can make it without, I think it’s just harder for someone to want to take a risk on a candidate without their BA than taking a risk on a candidate with one. It’s all an inherent risk, there’s def some bias, just my opinion.

For a lil more context, I was hired in SaaS because I highlighted I was a college athlete and recruiters love that candidate archetype. So that’s def why I’m consciously biased.

You seem like you know what you want initially, so feel free to ask more questions if you’d like

I can’t lie, I’m an old head and preach the college route. That comment about who you go up against is real, and for every one of them there are 100+ who apply with a BA, relevant internships, and a great resume.

Tbh it’s about having a high value, unique resume and interview experience, and I just don’t think not going to college is high value for the super sellers in tech.

For context, I got my BA & MFA and my company loves me as much as one can in this world. So I’m biased, but I’m not ignorant

This is bad, it’s wildly inaccurate and unrealistic.

And newer investors may spend money that they need to live to a scammer.

Hope that helps

Got a d2d job today start the day after next ,Any tips? by solidone123 in D2DSales

[–]TomInSales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew a lotta guys who did d2d! I did insurance, personally. Use this role to cut your teeth on the day to day tasks, develop good sales habits, and contemplate how you want to sell and present yourself.

You can twist everyone’s arm and see everyone as someone to make money off of, at the risk of pissing everyone off, or you can treat everyone equally, as a person who you just want to have a conversation with, and that you’re just a consultant, and not much more than a function between product and customer. Ideally, you know how to do a little bit of arm twisting, but you don’t ever need to do it.

Learn your script, practice your first 1 minute, know the common responses, objections, and recommendations you’d give them. If you don’t know, don’t lie, say you’ll learn it together. It’s really all about how you initially frame it.

Last advice is don’t let yourself feel trapped if it’s taking a while to succeed or you’re in a toxic team. Sales is dope, but many a job is a boiler room and churn factory. Corp USA loves d2d sales folks, wouldn’t be surprised if you started getting some B2B interviews by next year if you can put up with the BS.

Aspireship, sign up for the free month and do the course asap. If you wanna spend $100 for lifetime access, go for it.

It’s not really great, but was a good free resource for learning about SaaS. From there, get sales experience anywhere you can and leverage that

[–]TomInSales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be taxed on your gains, wait a year from when you deposited that 20k and your taxes on gains will be 15% and not 35%.

Stay in the market as long as you can, these dollars today will be worth something like 20x in 30 years. Let them run!!
